Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

So 5 wing options and not one of them fast enough to score a long range try?
All 5 have a bit of speed over 30-40 metres at best and 4 of them, maybe not so much Turuva are easily burned for speed when defending any opposing winger with genuine speed.
When we talk about depth surely we are covering all bases and ensuring we have a mix of wingers who are good with their yardage out of our danger zone with at least one who is a genuine threat of outpacing our opposition if we look for an early wide shift?
Spot on. Pace wins matches in many ways. And we don't have any. In the forwards or backs.
And we lose every year, yet we still don't recruit speed. Averillo is a start.

One thing for sure there's not room for Skelton, Tupou, Herbert and Tavana in the same squad. You can only have 2 of these sorts in your top 30

If Moussa is still with us then our season is already over. He should be sacked immediately. Someone new food have been lined up a long time ago to take over at the conclusion of the season.

And AD should be nowhere near the halves. He's the third best 5/8 at the club and the worst halfback. If he's staying lock then ok, if he's not happy with that push him out without paying a cent.
I don’t get the Moussa hate… he’s normally got a very low injury rate . Like when we had the former sharks s and c guy we had something like 48 players used those years . What’s your issue ?

De Groot is a very good young player with genuine pace who can play multiple positions in the backline.

Doueihi and Bula are backs who can go the length of the field if required. We seem always keen to rid ourselves of players with genuine pace, Koroibete and JAC are but two examples. Papenhuyzen is another.

I can well-understand what a difficult role it is to be a physio. Two close relatives are physios, one in sport and another rehab. The sport physio used to be the physio for an NRL team. Believe me it involves long hours and is difficult.

Anyone have an option on

Wiremu Greig
Blake Lawrie
Christian Tuipolutu

I think Tuipolutu would be a good get at the right price for a 1 year contract

The other two could play 6-8 games off the bench to fill the holes in the season

The club should be looking for younger players on the cusp of the NRL, players with the ability to be good solid NRL players and more. Ideally, height, pace and from a strong development system would be ideal.

I think we also need a blend of seasoned leaders too. I like the fact Benji has openly confirmed what everyone knows in that our top 18-19 are competitive but we struggle with depth when there are injuries. I expect to see 24-25 players with grade experience in 2027 like the ones being rumoured - Frizell, Mann etc.

Leaders like Yeo are difficult to find and even harder to sign. Stewart from the Dragons is a more skillful version of Yeo who will be a great player and leader. Our younger players will be a year older with more experience. Mann and Frizell will likewise be a year older. Frizell has had a great career but he plays the game hard so at some stage enough is enough. We have to do better than two older players near the end of their careers.

The problem is it's lean pickings out there. With new teams coming in, the fight for these players will only get harder.

Also see Cody Walker may look elsewhere if he can't get a deal done at Souths. Again, would be good for a year to help our young halves.

True but if we were going to go experience, we've well and truly missed the boat. Gagai would have been a far better option than some of our centre options this year. He maintained a very high standard of play and I was all in for signing him at the end of the previous season.
