Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

What your describing is what we've signed Brailey for, I believe.

I think England is the next move for Brooks.
I don't think we want him / he wants to come back.

Let's ask his uncle, @Jedi_Tiger
uncle lol that is a new one....

not too sure he ends up in england to be honest.

i wouldnt totally rule this out on a subsidised deal for 1 year

especially if they move your man Douhie on or potentially he takes Mason's spot for 27

I would be surprised if it happened however from what I got told prior to his injury he was preparing for 1 more year at brookvale abd dragons were looking at him for 2028.

1 year deal at 450k potentially not playing a lot of first grade who knows maybe both parties might be interested

it would be good just to see this place meltdown haha, he can wrestle whipping boy status back from Luai and Douhie

Why are we talking about Brooks… let’s aim higher.

If the rumours are true that Dearden wants to move to Sydney. I would genuinely offer him $1.5 mil a season over 4 years.

We’d be able to blow souths out of the water with $ offers

Could you imagine plugging Dearden next to Latu, Bula and Api.
He is the only player that could be worth that 1.5 million per season figure to us.
He is not in the top echelon as far as individual brilliance goes, but he is still young and hungry and he is the ultimate competitor who could run off on some very talented team mates around him,
I think it’s highly unlikely we would be a chance, but as you say a 1.5 million per season offer would surely be something to be considered.

Always thought Brooks would make a good no9, strong front on defender and has both a passing and kicking game. Not sure if we need any more no9 and halve coverage and I guess cap and roster space should be directed to areas of need, but Brooks could do a job at no9
he had been training at 9 for a bit at manly under seibold, however from what i got told it was a complete crap show in the premium season, turned out correct with seibold shown the door after 3 games.

I cant imagine it...we dont get this quality of player, he could.pretty much choose any club im sure all.would.make.room somehow

Nice to dream...maybe Benji can ask Todd to put in a good word for him

If we are fair dinkum, Fonua is just as a high a priority as what the Fainu boys are.
Is it really that hard to get the 3 of them in a room together, explain how important all 3 of them are to our teams immediate future, explain we are happy to include ratchet clauses for pay increases in accordance to salary cap increases, but we cannot overpay them if they want and expect a good quality team to play alongside of.
Makes a lot of sense.
IF ONLY?

An older player coming back to their first club after many years away rarely works well and for whatever reason Brooksy just couldn’t really click with us anyway, so it would be a bit no from me.

I feel for him though. I thought he was their best player when Manly were destroying teams under Fozball and they only went on their losing streak immediately after he was sidelined with his season ending injury. It would’ve been interesting to see how they had gone if he didn’t get injured. That 8 week period was actually the best I’d ever seen him play.

So I think it’s a little unfair for Manly to just discard him now, but I understand the decision also. Wrong side of 30 and a long rehab from a bad injury on the cards is not what Manly need. They really need to shed Jake too.
Always the big ''if'' for WT- Moses at 7 and Brookes 6. We will never know 🙂

If the move is purely to move to Sydney which is what it sounds like that shrinks the market dramatically.

The Dragons, Bulldogs and Penrith don’t have the $ for him.

Roosters will probs get Sam Walker done so doubt they’ll enter the race.

Rabbits after looking at there list next year I doubt they any cap space, but even if they did it wouldn’t compete with $1.3 to 1.5 million offers.

And eels are no better than us.

Never say never in rugby league.

Because the talk about Brooks isnt to play 7 for 1 million a year like Dearden

Nice to aim high but looking at the players we have been linked to would suggest the club has been told to do their shopping at the reject shop. We badly needed a Dragons style recruitment drive to get our roster into competitive shape. I know a lot of punters were getting very excited with our early season success this year, but for me you get excited when you win three in a row against teams challenging for the finals mid season and beyond

Hey everyone,

Been in and out of the forum this year due to some medical issues, but I’m doing a lot better now. Really missed catching up with you all!

For those who still remember me, I still get the odd bit of info from time to time. Haven’t been around much lately so I’m not sure if this has already been mentioned, but I’ve got it on very good authority that all three Fainu brothers are going nowhere. They’ve given verbal commitments to friends, family and the club that they’re staying put.

This next part is more of a guess, but I reckon the negotiations are taking a bit longer once you factor Manise into the mix. The three younger brothers seem to have a really strong desire to play alongside their older brother when he’s available again or if he’s available again.

I actually posted about this around 18 months ago, that the club are looking at Manise, and that the Fainus’ management team had been working with the club to get a T&T deal done. It’s been in the works for a while not just this past 3-4 months like reports suggest.

This clearly means a lot to the boys, you can tell. I think it’s a fantastic idea imo. The extra motivation of not only playing alongside three brothers (including one who’s been locked away), but also chasing the shared dream of a premiership and helping revive Manase’s career and journey in doing so, is huge. It’s giving Latu and Samuela in particular that extra drive to reach their full potential and scratch their scary ceiling.

Will it happen or won’t it happen we’ll see, but regardless both Sameula and Latu are staying put 100%.
Hi @teddy23
Welcome back mate , good to hear you're doing well.
Just on the signing of the Fainu's , someone on here (i can't remember who)
was saying that the hold up in them re-signing is the fact that their manager
has been suspened and until that suspension is lifted (later on this year)
things will be abit quiet on them puting pen to paper.

In other words they're unable to re-sign unless their maganer is there with them. (obviously)
But they cant until his suspension is lifted.

Cowboys would probably want someone in return. Especially since Dearden just inked an extension, and if there are no specific clauses, this would have to be a compassionate release, buy-out and most likely a player swap.

Now I'm one who thinks Doueihi should stay next year but a swap of Doueihi for Dearden could work for them to partner with Clifford in the halves. And it would be insanely good deal for us. I'd rather keep both but if that was the option then I could see it painted as a win win for both players.

There’ll be quite a domino party when the first drops - I reckon Walker moves on, Cleary stays put… if Deardon moves - it’s anyone’s guess where

Swapping AD for Dearden?
