Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I see Bryenton played for the Ipswich Jets for 2 games last season

Anyone know why he only played 2 games
Former Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs fullback and Peter Sterling Medalist David Bryenton is on the radar of the Queensland Reds after walking away from rugby league in a contract standoff. [1, 2]

Background and Code Switch
    • Schoolboy Star: Bryenton led Keebra Park State High School to the 2025 NRL Schoolboys Cup and won the prestigious Peter Sterling Medal (awarded to the player of the year), joining past winners like Payne Haas and Tom Dearden.
    • Bulldogs Departure: He walked away from his contract with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in March 2026 following a dispute over paid training opportunities after playing six lower-grade matches.
    • Union Switch: He crossed over to rugby union, joining Souths in Brisbane's Hospital Cup, where he quickly impressed by scoring two tries in his first three matches. [1, 2]

Super Rugby Prospects
    • Reds Interest: Queensland Reds General Manager Sam Cordingley confirmed that Bryenton is firmly on the franchise's radar.
    • Endorsement: Souths coach Adrian Thompson has backed the hot-stepping fullback as a legitimate prospect for a future Super Rugby contract

like many young players he figured out there is no $ in rugby & then came back to RL .

Certainly an interesting pick up.

We are slim on big bodies who have good speed off the mark and we are slim on players who are genuine tackle busters and line breakers.
It’s beyond me why we have any supporters who cannot see and understand this if we expect to have a successful team.
This doesn’t mean Doueihi is an automatic selection, he will have to earn his position in the top 17 like everyone else.
Did you just insinuate Doueihi is ‘quick off the mark’

You really don’t watch football do you?

FRIZELL’S LONG JOURNEY

No one has had to play more footy than Tyson Frizell before reaching a grand final.

The Knights veteran will play his first grand final in his 306th game after stints with the Sharks and the Dragons before joining Newcastle in 2021.

Frizell, who turns 35 next week, is the only player without a deal for next season playing in Sunday’s grand final. However, he is expected to join Wests Tigers next year.

So too will his former Knights teammate Kurt Mann who passed a medical at the Tigers this week with a two-year deal likely to be announced by next week.

“I love the game too much to give it away just yet,” Frizell said.

“It’d be great to come away with a win.

“But in terms of playing on, I don’t think I’m ready to finish just yet.

“I’ve been playing every game like it’s my last, especially this back end of the year.”
2 years for Mann...yikkes

Manly's a toxic disaster.
The Storm and Broncos get "special" support from the NRL.
The Warriors have been rubbish for nearly all their history and still haven't won a comp. despite having a whole nation as their market.
That just leave Souths where it works on it's merits.

I look forward to Denny Burgess parading the streets of Newcastle dressed in his Knights gear and you blokes having no issue with it
They get the poos when he wears our reserve grade colours

@ShaunMielekamp We need a private owner, not a club that is only concerned with how it can make money through gambling. We need an owner who has complete devotion to and love for our club.

Anthony Field is that man. He understands what it takes to succeed, and he loves our club.

The best parallel example I can give is Souths. Russell Crowe, James Packer and Mike Cannon-Brookes own 75% of the club. The other 25% is owned by its members.

Guess how much of the Wests Tigers is owned by our members?

Nought. Nada. Absolutely zero.

HBG and its debenture board must go ASAP.
