Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Thanks mate . Very much proved my point. Roosters way ? Find the best outside back under 25 and offer him market value plus an apartment in Bondi . Shit club…. Just won the geographic lottery .
I’d rather eat dirt than live in Bondi, but that’s just me. Bondi isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but everyone makes out that’s it’s the best place on earth. It’s far from it, imo.

Courier Mail article -Walters Cup schoolboy Team of the Season

UNSUNG HERO AWARD

Ashton Whyte (Redcliffe SHS)

Whyte made the Sunshine Coast representative side but was injured at the state titles which robbed him of some matches.

But when he played for Redcliffe, it was time to make up for lost time. He was able to cover lock and hooker where he was as tough as an old boot.

Whtye had a high ethic.
So we have signed this youngster from Queensland and another young player from the Warriors system yesterday, yet we have some supporters who claim we don’t have any resources to recruit outside of Sydney,
Just about every aspiring rugby league player who has been selected in any rep team from the age of 13-15 up now has a manager.
EVERY NRL recruitment team constantly contacts these managers, often with a bulk email to every rugby league management company in existence advising of what positions and player characteristics they are looking for.
This being the case, the changing world means a lot less reliance on multiple scouts to be travelling far and wide checking out these players in live games and much more focus on communication and building strong relationships with player managers to obtain the required video footage of multiple players, particularly the ones in the positions and with the characteristics the club is looking for.

It would be interesting to learn how many of their players own a home or rent in the east. The median house price for example in a couple of suburbs in the east is steep.

Fancy way of justifying our lack of scouts

Daily Telegraph NRL Nov. 1 preview: Every team’s top targets as transfer window opens

WESTS TIGERS

Players: Ethan Roberts, Fonua Pole, Jock Madden, Junior Tupou, Latu Fainu, Patrick Herbert, Royce Hunt, Samuela Fainu

Analysis: The Tigers would love to get Samuela Fainu tied to a new deal before November 1, but at this stage that looks unlikely, meaning he will be open to offers from rivals. The Tigers will likely try to keep his brother Latu as well, while Fonua Pole has been a strong contributor. Those three aside, the Tigers are in a reasonable position.

Danger rating: B

It was reported on radio this morning that Peter O'Sullivan has received large offers from the Broncs and the Eels. It seems that he and his network are excellent at what they do based on the Knights and the performance of his past clubs. I am interested to learn how these offers fit in with your advice about the changing environment insofar as it relates to recruitment. Genuinely I am interested considering O'Sullivan's success.

Just defends anything to do with the club running on an oily rag

It has been reported he is being offered 2.5 million.
He’s good, not 2.5 million good.
You could employ a very big recruitment team with that money.

Thanks for your reply. But if clubs are prepared to pay that for Peter O'Sullivan plus his network, won't other clubs have to match the investment to remain in the race for talent? I make no comment about the offers as those clubs obviously are in a position to assess the situation.

A few of us recently tossing around Schiller as an option for outside back depth - seems like recruitment had the same idea!
Interesting to see $ and term for him if the scuttlebut is true.

I like the signing if it happens. Obviously I would prefer we sign an established NRL winger, but next best is to have 4 guy competing for one spot in the preseason and the best man wins. Makasini, Solo. Schiller and Tupou go into preseason competing for that left wing spot. We just need one of them to nail it

Wasn't this figure based on a post involving a five year deal with the Broncos? I'd imagine it's 2.5m over 5 years. Half a mil a season is chicken feed for the success he brings clubs.
