Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Why so?
That's his reported deal!

2 year extension (3 years including next) with a 2 year option in his favour.
Weird structure - But it's obviously been discussed by all parties.
The obviously edited clip i saw, he didn't mention option... its been pointed out twice now, it wasn't a text article

Agreed, but why would WT give Murray one of those important spots when he only played a cameo in two matches this year and there are probably a hundred players out there that are better options.
Not sure that Murray is a current re-signing I think he was signed into the top30 for 2 years in 2025. Mason and Sukkar will be, however. The question is whether there are better usages of those valuable spots in the 30.

The ideal final pieces to complete our current squad IMO are:
Top 17 Prop / lock or even edge player
Quality genuine halfback
Speedy tall athletic Wing/centre

Obviously this can’t happen with 1 spot left, or with our current cap position, so we’ll just have to see what eventuates.

CEO Shaun cleared up a number of roster questions in his thread. In summary:

Charlie Murray is in the top 30
Still working on the official announcements for Mason and Sukkar (sounds like they will happen)
Shaun said we will have 1 spot remaining in top 30 to consider options

Christian Taupau-Moors is a Dev deal in 27
Pheonix Godinet is on a dev deal for 2027
Bryenton T&T in 2027

Archie Duncombe is on a pathway deal with a T&T in the future
The last 4 are exactly what we need.

The top 3 are exactly what we don't need. Murray as a train and trial would be ok, but top 30 would be a disgrace.

Mason is not a top 30 player currently. If he accepts train and trial or development then fine, otherwise see the door. He's 2-3 years away from first grade standard

Sukkar of the three might sneak into the top 30, preferable a development contract though. He's about a year away from competing for first grade. If prefer we sign a good backup but if he's the absolute best we can get them meh, that's very depressing. Especially given the lack of back rowers throughout all grades.

If we fill 3/4 remaining spots with players who aren't NRL standard then our season is in real trouble, and our recruitment team have failed miserably. But we don't really have a recruitment team, so I guess it's another failure on Benji.

Blind Freddy can see AD’s antics were all directed at Luai and the lies, carnage and division he caused while being at the club.
Benji knew AD was right with his opinion on Luai, but kept him in the team as he didn’t want to upset his followers.
A line should have been drawn in the sand and he should have been offloaded before June 30 last season and if any of his followers didn’t like it, they should have been offloaded too.
Yep, AD should have been offloaded before June 30. Well said.

I love the way when people make shite up to suit their agenda and start with “Blind Freddy can see”
If he can see then I don’t reckon he’s watching the Tigers play footy.

Not every player in the top 30 can be a star. There have to be some on close to minimum wage.
The issue is we have a third of our top 30 on minimum, and no real quality at the other end either. Absolutely awful cap management. No stars, little quality, no X factor and no room to promote from within or recruit quality that falls from a tree is we sign these three rejects to top 30

I could be wrong, but I reckon Mason will be transitioned to a specialist 14 to learn from Kurt Mann and see how he progresses as a Conner Watson style of impact player to cover 9 and 13 as well as numerous positions in the backs if required.
I think sone supporters are under estimating the importance of these type of utility players and overlooking Heath’s speed off the mark and tackle busting ability.
No doubt he needs to improve his defence, but I think you will find there are plenty of better judges than me who are confident he can make the required defensive improvements.
It doesn’t make much sense if we are re-signing him to a top 30 contract and planning on playing him fullback with the emergence of Attard and Bryenton.
I think he'll be a very good footballer in 2-3 years, but we can't just keep him in a top 30 forever when he's not able to contribute to the required standard. He needs a year or two in Cup to work on becoming a 14 utility and improving his defence as a forward. If we can keep him at the club on a non top 30 deal that would be great.

He should be a development player rather than someone like Havea who is 3-4 years from First grade standard. That's a wasted Dev contract, should be t+t at best for now.

Cam Murray on a T&T .....surely we didn't put Charlie on one

Yeah it's odd especially given the depth now in positions he can play.

Fullback: Bula, Attard, Bryenton, Nassar (Averillo as well)
5/8: Latu, Javon, Doeuihi, Averillo, Bryenton (possibly Schuster)
Lock: Twal, Mann, Brailey, Seyfarth, Sione, Lanyon, Murray, Havea Jr, Van Drie (possibly Doeuihi)
Hooker: Api, Brailey, Hayward, Lanyon, Havea Jr (even Mann can be thrown in there)

The only option I'd be ok with is if Mason is now physically trained & coached to be a Kurt Mann protege. High energy lock who can pinch hit at dummy half in short bursts & fill in as depth in the halves during a game if injuries strike.

No more fullback & cannot defend at centre.
Across the park except halfback of course

Yeah I agree. Most teams tend to hold a spot open and are allowed to do this until June 30. There is also the possibility of an early release of another player (like Bird last season) to free up another spot.

I think our recruitment focus is now on 2028 and the key retentions of Pole & Latu. Reckon our radar will be on middles & outside back (right side particularly).
Were always looking at rebuilding for 2 or 3 seasons ahead
How about taking ownership of next season, particulrly as weve had several years at the helm to think about it...
