Did anyone see Johnston run down Vunivalu, wouldn't it be good to have his speed out wide!!!
:master:

Yep it sparked his own thread earlier would be a nice pickup to get some solid pace in the team out wide.

SMH reporting the dogs wanted the cap raised at meeting during the week, other clubs voted to keep cap at a managable level. The dogs signed Brown from the sharks during the week, now not counting Reynolds and Hoppa who are off contract, will need to shed 1 million.
Story says Eastwood, Mbye, Graham and Morris boys are named being bandied around. We should try and get both Morris boys, that would fix a heap of issues.

The Morris boys would be perfect. Exactly what we need.

the morris boys are well past there best, they are crap thats why the dogs are struggling as well.

Agree BP let's take player's off their hands that they want to keep like Elliot. Not help their cap with retirees

My mate at Dragons has assured me we have signed Taane Milne.

I highly doubt we have signed Taane Milne because we would have announced it by now. and who's your dragons friend????

My mate works at the Dragons. He told me they've lost Dugan and Milne. 11 posts mate, wait a bit til you get a bit more experienced on here before you start getting judgy.

I hope you are right mate, Milne will be a rep level centre in the very near future.
As an aside, I am watching Hoppa pull off 2 try saving tackles that would make any fullback proud

851, there's many here who are mocking the thought of signing Hoppa and Eastwood etc. they're an upgrade on what we have

Yeah his speed is what we exactly need! His tackle on Vunivalu was a beauty as well making him knock it on. If we had Johnston on the wing and Hopoate in the centre that would be filthy. I only dare to dream!

I would absolutely love Mick Gordon, but if it meant missing out on Lolohea I'd have to pass. I think his days on the wing have passed, but if he was willing to come and mentor I wouldn't say no. Would take Hopoate though, he's basically Will Chambers-lite and that's probably more in our ballpark. Johnstone would want too much, but if we had half a shot I'd go hard for Crichton from Souths, was impressive against us and looked one of their best live at the game tonight (though think he's still on contract). Would also take a crack at Tagataese and Ofahengaue.

Somewhat wishful thinking, but I reckon this side is attainable:
1\. Lolohea
2\. Nofoaluma
3\. Hopoate
4\. Suli
5\. Fonua/Gordon
6\. Reynolds
7\. Brooks
8\. Matulino
9\. McIlwrick/Liddle
10\. Packer
11\. Idris
12\. Lawrence
13\. Taylor
14\. Tagataese
15\. Ofahengaue
16\. McQueen
17\. Aloiai

Maybe we can go raid the Broncos,

So far they have Kahu, Boyd, Roberts, Glenn & Ofahengaue.
And also the Jack Birds signing, which we are assuming to be big.

So far their 2018 backline players: Boyd, Roberts, Kahu, Oates, Mead, Moga, Bird, Nikorima & Milford.
They can't keep them all.

I imagine they will keep Boyd because he is a rep player.

I think they will keep Kahu for his versatility and goal-kicking, although we may pinch him because Milford can also kick goals.

I don't think they can keep Roberts, and if we offer him enough I don't think Broncos can match us.

This is Broncos who have an unlimited salary cap, but why not at least try to get some players.

We should be looking at there next level players, guys like ( backs ) Jamayne Isaako, Tom Opacic, Gehamet Shibaski,( forwards ) Matiun Love-Henry, Sam Lavea. Francis Molo and Jayden Su'a more likely to get a few of these guys then there top level players.

Isaako and Opacic would be likely to leave.

Shibasaki and Su'a are locked in for good.

Molo is finished at NRL level and Lavea is still developing his craft.

I believe Shibaski is of contract and Su'a is of Contract this year or next year. Issako and Opacic would be good to have.

Because we sign crap…nothing will change here

It's honestly frustrating We have so much money, yet we are going after guys like Fonua, Thompson and Ottio. I understand that quite a bit of money has been spent already, but surely we should be looking at other options that are at least playing in NRL level? Hoppa, Chambers, Gagai? They were all on the market for our taking.

There's a reason Fonua, Thompson and Ottio aren't playing at NRL level yet. Our club will forever settle on reserve grade standard players in the hopes that they come good. And in the rare instance that one of those players do come good, they get poached by other NRL clubs… (Addo-Carr, Koroibete, Austin, Taupau, etc)

Incorrect - the 4 you named did not want to stay.

Pretty sure Addo-Carr and Taupau wanted to stay but we couldn't place a competitive offer and we let Austin go to keep Moses. Nevertheless, proves my point even further. We bank on youngsters and reserve graders until they come good, and when they do we either can't afford their new value, or they want to move onto a more prestigious club. Then the cycle continues, we buy more reserve graders and youngsters… We never learn

One gets tired of explaining this stuff.

I am pretty sure Addo-Carr was asked to wait 2 weeks until Pascoe returned from leave as we wanted to sign him. He didn't wait and signed with the Storm, on his return an offer was made to Carr and he wanted to stay but couldn't as the COP had passed. Tapau wanted big money and we couldn't get anywhere near what Manly was offering with our cap situation, so he signed with them. Austin had signed the following year with the Raiders and was just filling in time for the remainder of the year until he went there. We in our wisdom let him go to give Moses ex[perience rather than someone who did not want to be here. The Club cannot be held to ridicule for these three as it was circumstances out of their control. Besides these three were mercenaries and as far as I am concerned good riddance.

I'd get
Lolohea - Replace Tedesco
Fergo/ Johnston - Replace Naiqama
Gray - Replace Zelezniak

Pretty good backline of

1\. Lolohea
2\. Nofoaluma
3\. Gray
4\. Suli
5\. Fergo / Johnston

Mwz isnt going anywhete.
He MAY be a depth player but u can't judge him on two games.
Hes beenhere for two weeks.

Fergo ain't going anywhere

Pipe dreams aye swag doggy…
Fergo ofg contract tho, not sure where he will go...
I doubt its us tho

After his game 2 weeks ago the Roosters will re-sign him.

If we have signed Lolohea and just waiting for the release - he is not coming here to play anywhere but FB for next year - I believe we have signed him.

Therefore if we signed Hoppa (I have changed my mind on him now that Sundays are included) it would be as a centre. MWZ has been going ok in defence but not fast enough in attack imo (I know it is early days but he is not going to get faster). Would still go for Gordon for one year on the wing for his kicking and is still a good player despite his age. Lolo is not a great kicker so it sort of forces your hand. Of course if you could pick up Gray or another good fast winger that wouldn't be bad either. So realistically I would settle on a backline like this at this stage:

1\. Lolohea
2\. Nofoaluma
3\. Suli
4\. Hoppa
5\. Gordon
6\. Reynolds
7\. Brooks

Eastwood :roll

Can someone explain why Jason Taylor, a high record scorer and kicker, could not train anyone to be a good boot!

I mean seriously, we would have to dig into Harrigan or El-Masri to find a better boot. JT kicked heaps of goals. Yet he could not even train up a good goalkicker!

There is speculation that the Morris twins from Canterbury may have to be moved on because of Canterbury's salary cap situation.

Just saying.

That is as a minimum is what we should be seeking

Lolohea
Edwards
Suli
Milne/Gray
Johnstone
Reynolds
Brooks

Reserves
Nofoaluma
