Why not just get Angus Crichton who has knocked back Souff's offer to extend his deal..

Because I don't think we are at that position yet Geo, as a club. It would cost us massive overs due to our current rep.
But searching high and low for junior talent and offering them a potential future in first grade would mean we will be better placed in the future.

Don't worry though I like the look of Sam McIntyre, has a really solid build and started rugby league as a winger so you know his got some toe,

But all the same I don't think it can hurt to recruit from outside a much better junior squad.

Good idea. Investing in potential has really paid dividends for us.

So has paying overs to sign players

In all fairness I feel the club had rested on its laurels in the past and relied on the talent supplied to them via local clubs or keebra park. Correct me if I'm wrong but benji was the first and last player that was actually sounded out by us then provided a scholarship to Keebra park. It seems since then we've just picked up whoever the broncos or other clubs haven't wanted and recuited them to the Tigers 20s team.
It's a damned if you do damned if you don't situation but when was the last time you heard the tigers actually searching and recruited future players that weren't in there own development system?

Wow. Thought he was signed. He would be a brilliant target for us. Played on with a fractured foot, even when the bunnies season was done and dusted.

We have two spots to fill. I’d be happy with Crichton and Pearce.

Ethan Bullemor,
Looks like a very good Backrower prospect, sign him up on a development contract Tigers!
Currently plays juniors with Norths Devils and Rugby for his school. Queenslander, but they can't have them all,
This kid has a lot of Angus Crihten In him.

Ethan is a boarder from Rockhampton, Queensland, and started at Nudgee College in Year 11\. Like many boarders, he takes advantage of the Reach for the Stars academic tutoring program, which runs four evenings a week and provides staff and tutors to help boarders with their homework, assignments and study.

Ethan is a talented rugby player and this year is vice-captain of the college 1st XV.

“My ultimate goal is to have a career in the NRL or be a professional sportsman,” Ethan said. “But it’s also really important to get through to university and come out with a degree. I am interested in the law pathway.

“I don’t like to set just one goal. I would like to be the best I can be in all things, school, sport and as a person.”

You seen him play mate?

Not for next year he is contracted to Souff's for 2018 but they were trying to extend before Nov 1 when Crichton is able to negotiate with other Clubs..he knocked them back so obviously he intends to test the market…

Would love him Geo, just what we need, but the chooks will squeeze him in, but we at least need to make it known we are after him.

Maybe the Roosters might move Taukeiaho out to make way for Crichton, he would be a great pickup,
Only on $150K plus brown paper bag at the Roosters.

Sure would be good to get, and the NRL buy the fact he is on $150k, what a joke the NRL are.

Does seem like a big unit and would be happy to have him at the Tigers.

Still has a year to go with St Helens. Do we want to take up one of our last two remaining positions on a prop?
Still worth having a look at him tonight against Australia.
Either way i wouldn't sign anyone just yet until the Nov1 shenanigans start playing out. Never know who will get squeezed out just yet.

I hadn't really thought about Cleary and Co having a good look at some of the lesser known players in the World Cup. Its a good audition for some of those fringe first graders that can't get a start at their club.

There has and always will be those players that don't show much in the lower grades until given a crack on the big stage. Would be nice to snare on of these types.

I'll expand on the others:

Mitch Moses
Seumanufangai
Twal
Aloiai
Chee-Kam
Eisenhuth
Liddle
Those two fellows from Newcastle and the Sharks fullback for 2018
JAC
Tyson Gamble
Matt Lodge

Surely you just haven't given this much thought.

Also obviously we have a fairly big recruitment area and don't need to drive into other territories as much as folks like Easts.

Totally agreed.

Just, he will make mistakes. So far he hasn't made any, I expect one or two new signings not to work out. Chris McQueen is one of those because of his injuries (otherwise he is IMHO a brillant signing, we need an older hand in the forwards and even injured he may be good to have around to point people in the right direction).

If he makes too many, well we go on the coaching roundabout again. But I think he will only make a very few small ones, that's natural. Bellamy makes mistakes! The trick is the batting rate and team culture, we stick together while demanding high but realistic standards.

Arrgghh… I have to jump in again. Can't handle it.

I can't believe we are even thinking even remotely this way for next year.

No matter how the team goes next year, if we boot Cleary or do anything but support him, what quality coach in their right mind is going to want to come here?? Not only that, but what players are going to want to come here??

In 2 years, we've lost Farah, Tedesco, Moses, Woods & Halatau. 2 Captains, a VC and 3/4rs of our spine!

It boggles my mind that everyone would even entertain the prospect of drama again. The thing that has driven us mad the past 5 years and resulted in us ending down the bottom of the table every god damn season!

Set goals, create motivation, start to build to where we need to be. But don't set damn ultimatums because Cleary would have to go Barrett on a player to want go down that path or instability again so soon!

I think people on here just love drama. Must love the telegraph.... Just sit still for at least 1 year and give all the support you can muster!

Can't speak for Col (who is actually Mike IIRC), but I wasn't suggesting change, just that Cleary has a much better opportunity to quickly create his own team than most, if not any recent incoming NRL coach. Particularly when compared to the last two coaches at WT, who had very little.

Too make clear I think Cleary will work out and I reckon he has enough of the right stuff to make it work here. In fact it's like we recruited the Panthers structure into our fold, now we got their coach and everyone who's sick of Gus! (ok not everyone, that's a very long list).

But there will be mistakes. Like the original comment, Cleary only has Cleary to blame if there is No success in 2018\. Now I expect us to hit 9-12\. If were hitting 15/16th then Cleary hasn't solved our problems and would only have himself to blame, but that wont be happening.

My original thought when Ivan was signed was , relief, that we had a real coach at last,
And confusion as to why He would take on what has been a nightmare for the last four of five years.
After thinking about it, it may not be the mission impossible that most RL supporters would think.
When you are starting at the bottom or dangerously near it , Its not that hard to lift a team a few places if you are a good Coach and can pick up a few workers to bolster the team. Defence can be improved( I'm not talking about Taylor Ball) with the right attitude in the team. .( something that will be a lot better than under Taylor)
His biggest problem is finding someone who can put some points on the board to replace Teddy. And whether the forwards can take on more workload to replace Woods.if Cleary can lift us a couple of spots in 18 and another couple in 2019.
that would be looked at as oK by a lot, and not unachievable.
Our problem then is keeping him as he will have at least dragged us out of the cellar
And couldn't be looked at as a complete failure, and wouldn't have damaged His standing as a Coach.( because expectancy wouldn't be that heavy on him)
if he's a reasonable Coach , and most seem to think he definitely is,he could come out of this Coaching gig with his reputation enhanced with out having to get us to the finals
It'd be nice if he could though
This isn't a critism of Cleary, it's just a observation about not having to get us into the finals to come out with his reputation intact.
Remember we are favourite to come last next season acccording to the bookies.
A few successes and no hidings could be looked at by some , as an definate improvement
