Mole warning- Manly Sea Eagles set to sign Trent Hodkinson from Cronulla Sharks

Manly is poised to receive a much-needed mid-season boost by signing former NSW State of Origin hero Trent Hodkinson from Cronulla.

Hodkinson was due to play for the Sharks’ feeder club Newtown in the NSW Cup today but has been withdrawn.

Sources have told WWOS that he is set to be released by Cronulla in coming days to sign with the Sea Eagles.

Manly has been desperate for a halves partner for skipper Daly Cherry-Evans all season.

Their problems intensified when young five-eighth Lachlan Croker tore his ACL recently, putting him out for the season.

Hodkinson is an experienced player with a good kicking game who will help take the pressure off Cherry-Evans.

Hodkinson dont fit the Manly wanker culture. He will hate it there

The Bulldogs are shopping around Moses Mbye due to their salary cap issues. Apparently he's on around $900k at the Dogs but they're willing to pay a bit of his salary. I'd take him for $650k and the dogs can pay the rest.

I don’t think he’s an upgrade over Thompson average goal kicker and he’s too expensive Dogs would have to pay 450k out of the salary for it to make sense for the Tigers. He’s only been fullback for 10 games maybe fools gold.

I agree. Not much difference between Maybe and Thompson. If we get a fullback it has to be the quality of a RTS. Otherwise keep Thompson there.

We get much better value from Brooks at less than what you'd pay for Mbye. I don't beleive Mbye offers anywhere near what Brooks does so around the $400 mark for him is a big maybe? Or maybe we just look at McIntyre, Robson and others to see who could earn a promotion?

If we have it's a secret…

Thanks GEO. A simple yes or no would nice.

Nothing official yet mate

Just remember ladies and gents , Meaney is just potential at this stage

And we have learnt the hard way the last 5 years about potential = real ability at NRL level

Well, yes, obviously - not all potential pans out. Don't you think the Cowboys would like a do-over on the decision to re-sign the proven Coote over the potential of Ponga?

Ponga played semi final footy and proved his worth at NQC

Cowboys were stuck like we were with Tedesco /Canberra situation , a club was prepared to pay marquee money for potential ,

Meaney hasn't played a game of NRL , bit different , don't you think ??

He'd played maybe a couple of games on the wing, nothing you could take to the bank. He also cost a whole lot more for Newcastle than it would cost to get Meaney - the risk was much higher with Ponga. Of course Meaney won't inevitably pan out but at the likely cost he's definitely a risk worth taking.
