Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

My dad's friend knows Rona and apparently Rona told him at the pub that he was on the bus. I don't know if this is true or not. If it is we may have our 30 players.

Not sure what to make out of it but watching the press conference after the game it looks as if Cleary hasn’t burned any bridges with Woods

When asked if woods was on the radar basically said the prop position is pretty stacked but as a player and person he’s someone the club would look at

I just find it interesting that he didn’t shut it down instead playing into it a little

I watched that too. I took it as a def not interested at all. I think Ivan was just being polite regarding Woodsie.

I took it this way too, looks like a definite no and totally different to his answer on Mbye.

Or maybe you all are wrong and Ivan would be still interested in Woods.
Props seem to be a premium market in the NRL, we are struggling to dent the line. We need an impact forward and I believe Manly are going to hold on to Taupau. It seemed like Ivan was trying to talk Woods back into resigning before he left. I actually think Ivan rates Woods.

Now add this in that Taylor has been knocked out a few times recently. Maybe Taylor is going to be Medically retired. I could see Ivan being interested in him.

I don't know if I would be recruiting Woods. Sure Canterbury may dump 200k for us to get him back. Hey they dump 400k and we get him on 400k a year, please! Woods can dent the line and play for 80, but he seems to much of a plodder.

Hearing aaron woods hits the market and we are one of several clubs interested

If he's willing to take a pay cut.

I would have Woodsie back no problems. Much better than Sue, Twal , Grant etc. But tne price has to be right, I could understand everyone wanting to leave under Taylor, but i think he would have liked to continue under Cleary imo.

Watched sue yesterday against the jets…hes a deadset waste of cap space,twal....not sure yet, Grant and eisenhuth are plodders
If we can get arron back at the right cost
We should take him

It astounds me that some consider Twal & Huth to be plodders.
Those fellas are rolling up their sleeves and are a massive part isf why we are such a good defensive unit this season. Unlike previous years with Woods lazy attitude.

With the proposed changes to the interchange (8 to 6) would Woods who plays big minutes would be a good option.

I would play Woods as an 80 minute lock. Josh McGuire, Corey Parker and Paul Gallen have all played prop and lock in their careers. It would give our pack some much needed size.?

My pack would be for 2018

Twal
Liddle
Packer
Aloiaia
Lawrence
Woods (could spend some time at prop as well)

Bench

Mats
Huth
MCK (cover backs and forwards)
Garner/Taylor (there are always injuries)

With Marshall gone in 2019 no need to carry a back on the bench.

Would not resign Sue or Grant in 2019.

I would take Woods back if he took a pay cut, his game wont improve under pay as he wants to use him as a battering ram. Cleary had him playing some good football last year.

Today would be a tough day for Woods losing to his old team and losing his blues jersey that he held for a long time in a struggling Tigers team.

I would take Woods back for a reduced price. I like that as a FR he can play big mins unlike most big guys.. That would mean we always have a big guy on the park as a min.

Twal is def not a plodder he's still very young and will mature into a premier prop imo, i think he's been told to not pop the offload and just roll up the sleeves. But once he gets that into his game i think his true potential will be there for all to see. The huth on the other hand does have plodder potential but playing quite well at the minute.

o.k. killing of the curtis rona signing for good , this was from his own mouth last night, yes the tigers offered me a contract which was very good and i would have signed, but i wanted to go to the rugby world cup. he was at the star casino with heaps of players and benji.

….but, but, but what if he changes his mind? Game changer!

Woods as an 80 min lock would be good

With the reduction of the interchange if it comes to fruition it would be a valuable signing

And he assumes to be selected? Not that I would even know where he is in the Wallaby pecking order, the Super teams are a bit light on just now.

If Woods did come back in it, I think it'd be at the expense of Chee-Kam or Taylor based on the current starting line-up. I could see this shift:

8\. Packer
10\. Woods
11\. Lawrence
12\. Taylor/Chee-Kam
13\. Eisenhuth

14\. Twal
15\. Matulino
16\. Aloiai

No I think it would be at the expense of Grant or Sue, Hopefully not JJ even though Ivan doesn't seem to like JJ.

Personally, I doubt that Cleary would have Woods back. Too much history. Not needed. But Cleary's too shrewd an operator to say never, and things might change so why shut the door permanently.

It is SOO good having a coach who knows how to play the press rather than being played… I think it's one the major reasons why our club has improved, because of Cleary's people skills.

I'll explain to one and all why Ivan doesn't rate Felise.
It's because he is soft and after three seasons it ain't gunna change.

Maybe its because he was mentored by Woods, maybe because he was related to Seumanufagai who knows.

What I can't understand is why Junior Tatola was allowed to walk, looks real good coming off the bench at Souths, was always a better prospect than Felise far higher work rate and a touch of mongrel.
But then again why was Nathan Brown released a few years back, these were extremely poor decisions.

We actually have a young prop by the name of Thomas Mikaele who has all the ability in the world if encouraged and coached correctly.

Felise has reached the pinnacle of his career, Mikaele could be anything, look no further than the trial match against the Cowboys this year.

Great post.
Thank you.

Explains a few things.

Cheers for the info, when JJ first hit the scene he looked a world beater then zero.
