Matterson is too slow for a back, and more of the same for us in the forwards…a Chris Lawrence type.Another roosters cast off.
We don't need another one of these...will probably have Fonua/marsters in the back row along with Chee Kam before next year ends.Got Garner as well

Matterson is 194cm and 107kg, a fair bit larger than Rowdy, 6cm taller and 7kg heavier and he still has some pace, I don't get your agument

Didn't realise he was that big tbh..sure doesn't play like it.Reminds me of Sirro jnr …built like Tarzan...plays like Jane

They're both big bodies and came through as halves but that's about where the similarities end. Matterson is only 23 and has only been playing 2nd row for a couple of years and has shown himself to be a workhorse and a threat in attack. I don't think you've actually watched him much if you think he plays like Jane.

Short of TPJ he's about the best 2nd row prospect on the market prior to 2020 (unless Hess turns around his 2018 form pretty dramatically).

Poor Jane always gets a raw deal, she was a pretty good player back in the day.

Not an avid easts watcher, but the dozen or so games Ive seen him this year Matterson doesnt really have impact(unlike say Radley)…which is why he cant get a slot in the run on 13.
Plus not a huge fan of utility players tbh...they generally dont develop to their potential.Might make an exception for Peachy as were absolutely desperate for a quality centre
Back to Matterson...Id rather throw $$ at TPJ...but suspect were not on his to do list

I think the fact that Isaac Lui gets picked ahead of him says a bit.

It all comes down to what we are paying, but could also look at Mago, Butcher or Toupesili (young roosters backrower).

The sharks also have young back rowers that can’t get a look in, but would easily make our side

Ok, to answer your points above.
Matterson was not played as a utility this year for the Roosters.
He was their Aiden Guerra replacement and he played 80 mins on the right edge.
His form never deteriorated. He got a couple of concussions, severe ones. There was an article at one Stage saying that he feared he had to give the game away as the reaction from the concussions were that bad.
So the roosters were taking it easy with him.
During which time Victor Radley got more game time and proved his worth.
It’s interesting that he’d want to move on from the roosters but with Crighton coming across something has got to give.
Secondly.
I was in discussion with my mate about who are the available back rowers out there and power players at that. At the moment the cupboard is bare.
A player I would sign tomorrow on a couple year contract is Kenny Edwards.
Home sick in the super league and is a nut case.
Has that anything goes temperament and could really lift Parra at times with some of his impact plays.
Needs to be trained to find a balance but he could be a good benchy for us.
2 things we lacked all year which were obvious in the south’s game in a kind of reflection of the season on a hole was.
The ability to make big meter hit ups from out props.
And the lack of sting that is delivered in our tackles.

Kenny Edwards is knob, no way.

You lost me at Kenny Edwards. Rest seemed ok though.

Roosters 2019 team if Taupau goes
1\. Tedesco
2\. Tupou
3\. Mitchell
4\. Manu
5\. Morris/Hall
6\. Keary
7\. Cronk
8\. JWH
9\. Friend
10\. Taupau
11\. Cordner
12\. Chrighton
13\. Liu
14\. Matterson
15\. Radley
16\. Napa
17\. SST
18\. Aubusson
19\. Tetevono

That team is literally better than us in every position on the field.

How much are members of a team like this being paid :brick: This is why until the salary cap/TPA's are fixed to make the comp fairer for all clubs- clubs like ours will eventually drop out.

ALL CLUBS should only be allowed to buy 2 players from another club, and be expected to bring in players from the lower grades, we would then all be in the same position, and not be like the team you named above….very lopsided competition atm :roll

I was watching pretty closely earlier in the season. it seems more about wanting players to fill a role ie left edge, middle right edge, bench impact.

Matterson to me needs to play more than edge. Ive seen him stand out when he can roam around the field.

The recruitment dept are digging through the plodder market bin as we speak .. the club must have a wallet full of money as they certainly are not spending it .

Is it just me in thinking the Knights are better recruiters than us.. They have Trent Merrin in there sights and panthers happy to release if they can come to an arrangement..

WHY are we not been at least mentioned on ANY signings.. The knights fans at least get the impression there FO is trying to improve unlike ours.

Good question. Speculation only but it could be we have signed players and all parties are now keeping quiet until after the finals.

Perhaps because in years gone by we were mentioned in EVERYTHING to do with signings, and now we have a tighter ship that doesn't leak so much info.

Don't mistake lack of noise for lack of activity.

You might pat Knights on the back for their recruitment but it didn't do them much good in 2018\. And frankly in the lead-up to 2018 I don't think they recruited any better than Tigers did, except they were able to jag Mitchell Pearce very late. Apart from that who did they get? Watson, Guerra, SKD the year prior, Moga, Ese'ese, Lillyman, Heighno. All Roosters and Broncos rejects who were retiring or injury-prone.

Ponga yes, they threw the sink at him and it's a great signing. Pearce just fine, but not a target for us when he sought a release.

They improved pretty much the same as we did for 17 to 18 (them 4 wins better us 5)
I've compared us to them recently and will be interesting to see how both clubs kick on next year… We have some ground to make up on them recruiting wise for next year
