And a reason why sharks picked Brailey over him.
When was last time he played 80 minutes 2 weeks in a row?
He did have the full time hooking role at Penrith when he won Dally M Hooker of the Year and the Sharks started with Brailey (at least in part) because Segeyaro has a good running game and is more effective than Brailey as a bench impact hooker.
He did have a season to remember in 2014 but has been bounced around for the last 4 years, injuries and form dips have plagued the poor bastard.
I like him but just don’t see him as an upgrade from what we have.
If we found a 9 that can play 80 mins every week I’d be chuffed.
Hodgson
Smith
Granville
Cook
Friend
McInnes
Korisau
The 80 minute hooker I think has been underrated lately.
Having an extra back rower or backline cover would be huge for us every week.
I really hope Liddle is our man.
Yeah it would be great but it would be a mistake to try and force it. That's part of the problem Parramatta had this year when they just decided that they would try to run an 80 minute hooker even though they didn't have a genuine 80 minute option available. The Cowboys also suffered from playing Granville for 60-80 minutes - he showed almost no spark out of dummy half and their attack suffered for it.
Week in week out it's probably only Cook, McInness and McCullough that play a genuine 80 at dummy half. Friend, Smith and Hodgson often have bench relief these days (Radley, Brandon Smith and Havili). Granville loses his effectiveness when he plays 80\. Koroisau becomes a defensive liability when he plays 80.
Short of an 80 minute hooker it would be good to find a backup dummy half who can do a good job as a bench 2nd rower like Brandon Smith, Tevaga, Havili or Radley. That **should** be Elijah Taylor in our squad but clearly he should be kept well away from dummy half based on his performances there this year. Braden Robson maybe?
