It will be what it will be!
No Brooks …. well then we can focus on Johnson or Townsend or some of the emerging halfbacks.
Isaac Moses is a grub and can go and get stuffed.
Not going to spend +$1M on a player who is not a superstar that can guarantee us a 100% performance each time he takes the field. And Brooks is not yet that player. He would be at Mich Moses level which is very much hit and miss.
So if Roosters want to pay that sort of money .... let them .... and instead

i doubt brooks will leave, but if he does we will have to be prepared for it

I'll be devastated if Brooks leaves. I always thought he would make it (albeit taking a little longer than previously thought.) The club persisted in the hope it would pay off and now it is starting to, if he leaves now to chase the bucks with Teddy it'll take every fibre of my being to not want to burn Easts Leagues down.

This latest development on Brooks has me concerned. Man, just when I was getting over the whole disappointment of the Cleary saga - now this.

I really hope we can secure Luke, but really if the Rorters are after him its not going to be an easy negotiation. It would have to be incredibly tempting for him to go there.

On another point - Robert Jennings. Any update on him - if he is available why wouldn't we have a go at him?

For South Sydney, John Sutton and Robert Jennings remain off-contract heading into the 2019 season, putting the club in a holding pattern unless they can release or offload other players to squeeze them into the salary cap - foxsports

2 yr extension for 1.7 - 1.8 is fair for Brooks imo. He is developing nicely and we forumites tend to think ppl are worth less than what they can get elsewhere.

ROOSTERS SET SIGHTS ON BROOKS

Luke Brooks is the reigning halfback of the year and remains without a deal heading into the 2020 season — the ideal scenario for a young halfback in the prime of his career.

The Roosters have emerged as a contender for his signature, eyeing the 23-year-old off as a replacement for Cooper Cronk who finishes his deal with the premiers in 2019.

Brooks is managed by Isaac Moses, who also brokered the deal for Tedesco to join the Roosters from Wests Tigers at the end of last year.

Tedesco and Brooks are close friends and it’s believed the two are keen to link up again at the Roosters.

The last time Brooks was off contract he was in a tussle with Tedesco, Aaron Woods and Mitchell Moses to remain at the Wests Tigers, and was the only player of ‘the big four’ to stay loyal — and for less than his current worth.

After his best season in the NRL to date and with few playmakers on the market, Brooks will be in high demand, with Eels, Raiders and Warriors also looking at their halves options beyond next season.

It puts plenty of pressure on the Wests Tigers to retain him, given he has been touted as a player the club want to build around.

And so it begins. . .

No offers eh…

I understand that we can only move as fast as the player will allow but I find it incredibly frustrating that we didn’t have Brooks upgraded, re-signed and locked away before November 1\. Now we have to endure weeks of media speculation as vultures like the rorters sniff around our home grown talent

Not fussed, as long as it's a fair competition for Brooks signature not influenced by the grub Moses. I'd give Brooks only a week or two to decide and be making inquiries of players like littlejohn and drinkwater now over in esl for back-up alternatives. Not sure we have any stand out in isp in case he goes. Could Liddell do the half if we got segeyaros signature?

I hate that a club can spend years developing a young player and going through the lengthy (and at times costly) process and when he finally looks as if he's going to be the part and lead us somewhere the Roosters are always there rumoured to be making an offer. Now obviously nothing is official and it is all fair game but it is really disheartening

It will be months.

We could sign Lachlan Lam and get his father to coach should Maguire get a better offer in the next 12 months.

Don’t we also have first rights on Drinkwater should he come back to Australia?

I assume that we didn’t have any cap space left in 2018, else for mine he should have had an upgrade 🥕from that, as well as another for the coming season as part of the negotiations as his form certainly warrants such.

Crikey mate , Drinkwater? He is not of first grade quality week in and week out

Yes, but how many of our signings are.

Moses is a crook, and if the NRL had any integrity, him and a few of his colleagues would be banned

Might not be our choice if he wants to field offers.
