Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Ricky was on the record this season saying that Jack Wighton was his favourite player and the bloke who was most like his "teacher's pet" so it seems strange he would let him go.
Or maybe Ricky only said that out of fear that Wighton might "go native" and beat the stuffing out of him?!
Ricky can keep Wighton. We will take Cotric and Whitehead instead…......

Wighton at centre could even be Origin class there ..Yes..Fullback… nope...depends on the coin he's asking if Wicky has to pay some even better...

Don't really care what he did...the footy field is what matters...

Where is the Pom when you need a confirmation ??

Wighton would be useful for us. Canberra has been so up and down the last few years. Blake Austin is off to the UK. The defence between him and BJ was terrible. Two Raiders players injured in the Internationals already. Rapana and Hingano. One is out for six months the other may be ready for the start of the season.

Maybe the 5 x assault charges he’s talking about…

Didn't even realise it was 5\. Wow not too fond about the idea of signing him tbh especially if he's coming here as a fullback

His legal defence team tried to have the CCTV suppressed from court - they failed. The footage is quite damning.

I'm pretty sure i read somewhere that 4 men started on him and he gave them a hiding

That's incorrect.

It makes sense for Canberra. Wighton is their highest paid player. Dufty will come cheap and is on the outer at the Dragons.
It would allow the Raiders to sign Shaun Johnson in the halves.

Wighton would be our best outside back by some distance we are weak outwide compared to the big clubs. Great signing if there is any truth to it which I strongly doubt.

What's the true story? I didn't read anything about this case.

Court documents describe the footage, saying Wighton left Academy nightclub at 2:45am on February 3 and walked next door to a restaurant called Akiba.

According to the statement of facts tendered to the court, the first victim was leaning against the front of the restaurant when Wighton approached him and, despite another man trying to pull him away, punched him in the torso, then the head, followed by two headbutts.

After this, the documents go on, another man approached Wighton and appeared to try to shake his hand, but Wighton instead took his hand, hit him in the chest, pursued him and punched him in the face.

About 10 minutes later, according to the description of the video, Wighton stepped onto the road, kneeled down and starting urinating on a bollard.

Three men then called out to him and pointed at a wet patch on his knee, at which point Wighton approached them and said: "Is there a problem?"

The footage then apparently shows Wighton punch and headbutt one of them, punch another in the face and body, before the second man hit him back. A scuffle ensued in which Wighton also punched the third man.

"Yeah, mate. You're kneeling in urine."

If he gets through his court case, I can’t see a reason why we would not buy him. He is just what you need in the three quarters, big strong, hard and a great defender.

Yes he is no Rhodes scholar, or saint, but that’s not what we need

And he's already served a lengthy suspension, so maybe no effect on us.

I think he'd be an incredibly good buy…... if he's playing centre.

Not sure how accurate but zero tackle has him on $750k a season. Wicky might stump up a bit to get rid of him..

750k a season for a poor fullback who might be facing jail time on the off chance he might go well at centre? I know it's cup day but dead set some people have been on the cans big time if that sounds like a sensible move.

Don't see where anyone said pay 750K for Wighton…

Might go well..better than any of our current options at centre and has represented there at City/Country Origin level..established NRL player more than hit and hope IMO..

If he's on 750k a season (which seems high to me, but there it is) it would be hard to imagine why he'd move to the Tigers for less.

People on here always talk about prospective signings as if the salary cap doesn't exist. Sure, Wighton *might* be an upgrade at centre. But on that sort of money? It would be an insane move.

Sharks paid nowhere near what Woods was on at the Dogs.. reportedly 800K + it happens

Thanks Masterton.

Meanwhile, there will plenty of interest in the outcome of Jack Wighton’s court case when he is sentenced on November 14 following assault charges.

Brooks is worth 700-750k. No more. He hasn't earnt more. Reynolds is worth 500k.

Tigers have been doing really well lately with costs but why they paid 750k for Reynolds when no one else wanted him is beyond me. Offer him 500k and I bet he would of taken it.

Agree and Disagree

Brooks is worth more than before and certainly the equal of Reynolds. He is a 100% keeper

Was Reynolds worth the $$$, 2018 would say no.

we havent seen much of reynolds full potential yet, only time can tell

Watched him a fair bit at the dogs, Inspirational, not lacking effort I agree but is he the leaderwe need…... I hope so.
