Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

@Furious1 Yeha it's a shame the way things turned out that year. Having a highly talented but very scrawny young fullback behind the current Origin fullback. He decided to head elsewhere early in the season as there was a road block with the Tigers in Teddy. Fair enough.
Then Teddy decides to leave too and suddenly we're without the best fullback and one of the best young fullbacks in the game too. Maybe Ryan should have waited a bit longer but that's how the Storm recruit. They very aggressively target top young players at 18/19, early in the season and give them a take it or leave it offer in March April
It looks like Ryan has put on an extra 5-7kgs of muscle to his frame - something we always seem to struggle with our smaller players. Must be something in the water down there. Maybe Pap would come back but with Mbye at fullback he'd need to go to wing and he may be a bit small to play there? He's mostly at fullback at the storm, yeah?

That was his first game coming on as a fullback..his other games were either wing or centre or just really a bloke on the field ...

@Balmain_Boy Potentially a far better fullback then Mbye i would think. I guess the thing with him down there is they have Hughes and Drinkwater too. They won't all stay you wouldn't think.

@Geo We will see how he develops and whether he is in fact another good player we let go for all the wrong reasons.
He came on last week when eels were well and truly busted and their defence was just awful.
However he is small and injury prone so long term risk.
I really can’t see where he could fit into our squad definitely not as bench interchange, where he currently plays at the Storm.
He will be selected at fullback this week and expected to play full game. So we will see how good he is first hand.
I really think our recruitment has other priorities than crying about spilled milk.

I think myself Papenhuyzen was a loss..watched him a lot through juniors and was a street above those his age...plus I can spell his name...would you pay more than the Storm did to keep him probably not...plus the lure to play under Bellamy and their systems for a young kid would have been hard to turn down...

The current shift in signing development players from outside our junior base is a positive...Madden Talau Cini Bradley and Smith before that shows the Club is not afraid to look elsewhere for talent...see how that goes...

@Geo Yea that is twice we lost to Melbourne. Josh Addo Carr and Ryan Papenhuyzen.

Which actually surprises me as we have Brett Hodgson and Pat Richards on our coaching staff. Unsure if we lost Ryan before they came across, but Brett and Pat are two of the best at the back for any club.

Naturally if you are a young player and you see Bellamy and Slater saying "come join us" who would say no. I'm surprised we wern't a little competitive particularly at the fullback area.

@Spud_Murphy He has had a horror injury affected year this year.....even kicked a 40/20, haven't seen that from a No. 6, 7 or 9 in ages.

How good has Payne Haas been?!!?His lowest fantasy score is a 50!! His highest is a 77 and that was without a try, Line break, Line Break assist and a single offload

To be fair Addo-Carr was a Sharks Junior...so we didn't really develop him as a youngster...got him for 1 year...lot went on behind the scenes trying to extend him with both the Club and the player..

Rapana is off contract. Best winger in the comp.

Type of outside back we need to sign imo

He's exactly what we need. Not sure how we will afford to make a decent offer though.

Scored 54 tries in the last three seasons.

We are going to need to find the cap space in order to sign what we need. Over to Pascoe and Maguire.

I love this. Its that kind of professionalism that i do admire the Storm for.

Is there any reason we dont do the exact same thing. Are we the nice guy recruiters who give the recruit the full year to see if they can make it at their current club lol.

@gallagher

I think we have a few players with for sale signs on their jumpers

For sure, it's reassuring we have such a experience coach this time around.

As above..Madden, Talau, Cini, Bradley and Smith before that..All Australian Schoolboys..All signed by Wests Tigers from other Junior systems..locked up for 3 years..see how they go..

High risk I know but with James Roberts seemingly on the nose with Seibold as well as having a few injury concerns, I'd risk it if we had the cap space, we need the speed, Brooksy is our quickest player and I'm guessing Liddle is second

@Curly_Tiger
Liddle is faster then brooks but yes I would get Roberts...recon Madge could get him back on track
