Would love to snatch Sitili Tupouniua but you just know that the Roosters will retain a talent like him despite the fact they have an abundance of representative second row players. The worst part is he will be under the cap for something ridiculous like $200k for the next 3 years.

Ah you do realise of course that Tigers picked up Matterson for exactly the reasons you give against Tupouniua.

If Tupouniua feels his form warrants a contract increase, his manager will go to Roosters. If they refuse, he'll agitate for a release so he can test his value on the market. You can't just shut down a player if they are being paid a pittance for high-level performances.

So either Tupouniua is happy being paid bugger all, or Roosters find brown paper bags to supplement his salary and keep the whole salary cap together.

IMO the player we need is Jesse Ramien - strike centre for our other edge. Then, if convenient, an improved edge player who has some footwork and speed. Basically another Matterson would be great.

Not quite. During a conversation with someone reasonably close to Ryan, I was told he had expressed wanting out of the chooks for a while before talking to WT and it wasn't about money.

Well spill the beans then, what was it about? I thought Roosters retained all their talent? Maybe Sitili doesn't expressly want to stay at Bondi either.

Won't say much more as it was a private conversation, but another chook was and different treatment was mentioned.

I appreciate it's private, as I'm sure you appreciate that saying "it's not what you think" and then not telling us what it really is, is sort of meaningless.

Not at all. Similarly with @tigerap and his comments on Nofo recently, him being a long time contributor with no history of outlandish statements, I take his and other like posts onboard with no need to know the source or exact details.

Not calling you out for being unreliable or anything, just when you say "it's not all about the money" and then say "I can't tell you what it is about", I'm still as much in the dark about it as I was before you said anything at all.

The value of Christian Welch will have taken a hit with his second ACL in as many years. There’ll be risk involved for whichever club signs him, and he’s going to have to accept less (maybe much less) than what he was initially hoping for.

Well I can't help you then, as the first things I wrote were that it wasn't a hasty decision or about money at all. I then elaborated that it concerned another chook and different treatment, so that should be enough light to brighten the darkness.

Wrong diagnosis. It’s an MCL and will only miss 4-6 weeks.

It's not an MCL, it's a meniscus tear. Must have done a good job on it if they thought it was the ACL initially. My meniscus tears at their worst had me almost in tears, bone on bone.

@WT2K Maybe a player swap Campbell Gillard for Packer .. Ivan loved Packer

Campbell-Gillard hasn’t been anywhere near the player he was since he broke his jaw.

Time for a PM fellas! That way the rest of won’t get wind of the private convo.

Here we are just all talking about trying to sign a quality player of some sorts to help us get better and we seem to struggle..
Alot of reasons for this but what gets my blood boiling is a team like the Roosters has a player out and media are saying they are down on troops but bring in a England International to replace Toopu.. Now Sorry but how is this fair when we cannot even sign a rep player and they have them coming out of the woodwork... I BEG the NRL to address this as I no a lot of friends of mine have stopped watching NRL because its the same teams every year and had enough.. Time to stop this rot

It's not fair, everybody knows it, but no one will do anything about it and we will continue to see the same handful of teams vying for the Premiership at the end of each year.

I don't get the NRL's reasoning behind it all. Having the same teams at the top year in, year out doesn't really make for an interesting competition and, as you've already mentioned, a lot of people have stopped watching the game because of it. It just makes no sense to make the competition smaller, whilst always publically declaring that they want to expand the game!

Expand interest in the game by making the comp fair and enabling *all* the teams to have a genuine crack at winning a Premiership, instead of allowing the great imbalance in rosters that we are seeing now to continue and increase more and more each year. That's what will put bums on seats and bring more people back to the game, Greenberg! Not that you even care.

@WT2K would be a very handy pick up. As much as we need to stock up in the front row, we need to do even more in the backs.
