Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Something will give with our squad sooner rather than later imo. We can’t go into 2020 with almost every major signing from last year on the outer. I don’t think any club can have that amount of money not on the field. Guys like Packer, McQueen, ET and Reynolds. Not all will be offloaded, but it would help if one or two are. There’s no way all 4 can be on the books next year if Madge refuses to pick them.

The question is how much of their salaries we'll be paying while they play elsewhere. No-one is going to take 100% of any of those deals off our books either because they think the players are worth it or to do us a favour.

Personally I'd be pretty surprised if anyone was prepared to offer more than about 300k a year for Reynolds at this point. Matulino might get the same or a shade more. Taylor, Packer and McQueen would barely be worth a minimum salary bid - even to do that another club would have to think they justify a roster spot and that has to be a major question . That would give us something around a million dollars of cap room back but with five roster spots to fill out of it plus any contract upgrades we've given out.

I wouldn't be expecting marquee signings even if we unload the lot of them, basically. Once again, we've wasted far too much of the cap on duds and we're knackered until those contracts expire. I wish people would remember that next time they bleat on about "established first grade" signings.

God all I want is some speed on the wing and a little bit more mongrel in the middle....not too much to ask is it??

Newcastle are in competition with Souths for the signature of Su'A apparently - if they need the salary cap space we could take Ese'ese off their hands. He'd be very handy in the middle for us and is being underutilised at the Knights.

Will be interesting to see what the club does. Pascoe has said previously that we won't be paying anyone to play elsewhere.

Just saw Pascoe on NRL 360.

Money will be available...................in 2021.

Madge happy to work with this roster (answered like a politician).

Definitely seemed like no signings coming.

@Roar_Power

I wish they had of pushed him further on Packer. They asked "what is going on" and Pascoe just said "they get along, no problems etc etc" soft laughter "in the week I have been back no problems" soft laughter and awkwardness...

They should have said "so, why has he not played any grade for six weeks"...........but changed the topic.

Sadly as much as we don’t want to admit it, we are stuck with the
current squad till end of 2021, another 2 seasons....even sadder, this squad will struggle to make the top 8 the next 2 years...and where will that leave Madge who finishes his contract end of 2021..?...I would not blame him if he chose to move on as 3 years of frustration would do him.....and the whole merry go round starts up again.....sigh...the life and times of being a WT supporter...

I’m actually quite surprised that he’s managed to keep his job. Seems to be a bit of a goose.

I doubt there's a CEO, who has got done to this extent with that punishment to the club, that has survived.

He’s done more good than harm. Pascoe is not the weak link that was Cleary.

Cleary is gone mate, we don't have to worry about him anymore. The worry is the bloke still able to do damage.

@gallagher in total agreement with ya there, Gal, it’s now the time for him to fall on his sword either by being a half decent bloody cheat or taking a righteous path to make us prosper. Clearly our biggest and most fundamental issue is media scandal’s but I do feel that at last we’ve got a genuine man manager in charge capable of igniting some Sheens-like spirit in the squad - let’s face it they’re mostly nuffies atm and not much better waiting to be signed. Talking about Madge that is.

Pascoe must succeed in this financial period as well as keep us out of harms way - if he does that the rest looks after itself, if not, then as you said his doom would be impending!
