Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The middle players that played last did well. Need to replace Packer with another strong middle player.

That would be good to see. Hopefully we take note of the fact that signings of more experienced props have not been going so well lately. I don't want to see that we've signed "former international prop X"...The Titans have got much more out of Foutuaika than they have Shannon Boyd. We need to make signings with upside. If we're talking about Welch and Ese'ese then I think we've got the right kind of idea.

@Fitzy05 Disagree, I thought they were dominated and put on their back most of the time with the exception of Mikaele. It is expected given we had 3 props out injured, but I still think it's our biggest weakness. We were kicking inside our own 40 far too often.

I think they were just one of the team's reported to be after him. Nothing official to the best of my knowledge.

Not yet that I know of?
According to what the Pom reported .... we are in negotiations. Would be a good pick up if it worked out. But would not break the bank.
Clark played well last night I thought. Kind of think he might make it with bit more polish and experience.

Interesting. Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at Parra. They've been after another prop for a while (didn't they offer George Burgess a contract in the offseason?)

Not sure if this has been posted here but doesn't make for the best reading. No marque players until 2021!

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/wests-tigers-to-honour-farah-s-ambassadorial-deal-20190626-p521g1.html

I have been giving Pascoe the benefit of the doubt as I don't think he has done much wrong, but if he is letting Benji and Robbie decide if they are playing next year then I am switching sides in regards to him. For starters neither should be playing next year, both were unwanted by their previous clubs 2 years ago, both were signed for 2018, they have both got another year they were not expecting in 2019.
We surely are not just letting these pair get their game numbers up, Pascoe just said Reynolds is not going anywhere, then bloody well play him, and the others who are not going anywhere as well need to be in the shop window or earning their coin

If re-signing Marshall on buttons persuades Reynolds on 800k to look elsewhere I'll be the first to call Pascoe a genius.

Farah and Marshall are doing nothing for our future development, Liddle is getting bugger all game time and Grub is playing reggies, these pair have been picked in the run on side every week they have been fit, and that can not continue in 2020 if we want to move forward.
We have the QLD U/18 hooker for next year, they need to sign Liddle and these 2 will be our hookers, I am sure they can get a half from Canterbury Cup or QLD Cup to cover an injury to Grub next year, it is time to let go of the old, and I mean old boys brigade and move forward

If there's a 5/8 going I'd be the first to advocate signing him up. What I'm saying is if the choice is between Marshall on nothing and Reynolds on a lot I'd rather have Marshall. At least then there might be some cap room to sign a 5/8 who is more than just a generic body from reggies should one become available.

The fact is it's not "Benji Marshall" or "Josh Reynolds" that is holding up development - it's the salary cap being used on them. If we had a good junior 5/8 coming through it might be a different story, but you can't just magic up a good, cheap half out of nothing (I note that your proposed signing is "someone" out of reggies - not an actual person, just an imaginary really good half who's hanging round in reserve grade and willing to sign for what we currently have available, which is nothing).

We need cap room. Marshall and Reynolds are both past it, but only one of them is chewing up masses of cap space. IDGAF who the nuffie is in the 6 while we sort our cap out - it could be Benji Marshall or Menji Barshall for all I care. But until we get the Reynolds contract off the books we will not have our 5/8 of the future. That has to be the priority.

Agree re Liddle, FWIW.

Ash Taylor ($1 million) WOW money for the jam
Jason Taumololo ($950,000) worth every cent
Also Nathan Cleary is somewhere near that figure also

Tedesco is on 1.5 million
A mates brother in law use to be close to the head coach and he said

That can't be right. NRL made the TPA figures public last year and the roosters total number was around $200k only

It’s BS
Teddy has 500k TPA
just proves they are salary cap cheats

Cade Cust at Manly is off contract. He's looked great in first grade over half a dozen games or so. I'd rather offer him whatever we'd otherwise offer Benji for next year than just go ahead and re-sign Benji.

Good point, Manly have Croker coming back this week or next, and he will be their 5/8th.
My point was that Grub is signed for 2 more years, we have to use him, we can't have a $700k player playing reggies while Benji runs around in top grade again next year, we should be giving Grub a go now.
Teams will more likely take a player playing first grade rather than a player stuck in reggies behind a past it 34 year old.

The player we should go all out for is Brandon Smith. He is a player that would change our intensity and play from the very first second of coming here. one can dream.....

He's biding his time, he knows he'll walk into that jersey when Cam retires. Why go anywhere else?
