Damn ..i was going to start a book on how long it took for someone to mention Nicho Hynes..

too late

What is the issue, we need cheap players who can cut in the NRL, he is one of those guys, and can play 1 and 6, two spots we need

So we should offer a contract to anyone that plays one decent NRL game? Everyone looks good playing for the storm. Remember that champion Adam Blair.

Nicho Hynes played fullback for the storm today, a big body played well, took bombs, had a try assist, also plays 5/8th, he would be an upgrade on Benji at probably less money, there are players there if we want to look, not just keep ticking over with the same old players

So he is off contract?

He is third string at Melbourne, we could get him if we wanted, but we won't enquire, we have the great game manager Benji going around again next year

See that's the thing, how do you know what players we have enquired about and been told no?

I think we need a player like Wade Graham who is very smart and can cover a lot of positions.
Thoughts on Matt Moyland? Sharks need to lose some players and his name was mentioned. He would kill it with us.

I think Coach has done a great job with the players we have and our top 3 paid players out most of the year. All of the players he has resigned so far are players that most approve and happy with. If he can add a few of the players he wants I feel we will make the 8 next year.

Saw a story today on the sharks, they have 5 players on $800k or more next year, plus Woods on $600k, even losing Gallen and Capewell are still over the cap, we should be looking there

I don't, but I know we want Benji next year, bloody madness

The bloke can catch a bomb and set up a try, he could do that at any club, some of our players can't, not rocket science, and not a hit on the cap.
And on Blair I thought he was ok, Sheens used him wrong, he has played good for every club he has played at

Moylan is capable of being the best player in the game IF he really wanted it.

But he does not and never has. He would be a disaster at a place like ours.

Even with all the vets at the Sharks, they have struggled to get him up every week for games.

Hynes is a solid player but the third or fourth option fullback for the Storm. There is a reason for that. He has no X Factor and that is what we badly need, not another solid and cheap player. Unless we unearth exceptional junior talent with X Factor we will need to spend money on x Factor players.

He may not be an X factor, but he would be cheaper than Benji with way more upside, a no brainer with our cap, and the try he set up was pretty solid, dare I say better than our 1, and he never dropped a bomb, some really good takes and backed up through the middle

The Sharks have completely screwed up what should have been a new generation of stars.
They have lost Jack Bird, Valentine Holmes, Jesse Ramien, Kyle Flanagan, Sosaia Feki, Kurt Capewell, Scott Sorenson. They went big game hunting with Dugan, Woods, Moylan, Johnson and cant compete to keep their juniors. They are also taking a big risk signing some juniors now as clubs may not take their veterans.

Tigers should be smart Ramien release has been orchestrated by Johnny Cronk we should help by taking a player we could use to make it happen.
Josh Morris might be wise.

Why is it that the Storm are never "rebuilding"?

They're just winning.

Yet other sides pretty much say "oh I'm sorry fans but don't expect much from us for a few years until our 5 year plan takes effect, we're in a rebuilding phase"

While other teams are in a "rebuilding phase" the Storm are in a "winning phase" you never hear them talking about rebuilding, they lose Inglis, Cronk and Slater and a number of other important players but they just get it done.

They already have 3 centres who they can't fit in and keep happy, getting another while over the cap seems impossible or ridiculous

@TIGER saw a quote from Bellamy a while ago. Something like we don’t rebuild we are here to win every year. That’s a club culture thing. rebuilding is an easy way out for everyone at the club. Players, officials, coaches. Personally I don’t think our coach has bought into the whole rebuilding ideaology, and that’s a good thing

I view it as they are constantly rebuilding their roster, they actually turn over quite a number of players but select the right players to fit in with the stars they have built their side around. There has been one club that has been able to this in the salary cap era so it has to come down to smart and ruthless people making decisions at the club!

@pawsandclaws1 ..disagree ..Hynes looked quality. Threw a Ponga like pass tonight, was always sniffing around the ball carrier. Would walk into our side.

Good resource for player contracts etc for those interested

Then maybe instead of targeting players we should be targeting Melbournes recruitment staff, assistant coaches and peripheral staff. Wouldn't get them all but some may bite. Instead we go back and re hire McDonnell.
