We are a million to one to get Arrow.

He wants to to stay in QLD, play finals, and every NRL heavyweight is after him.

Would be happy to be wrong, but doubt it.

Totally agree we're a long shot however there was an article a week or so ago saying his Mrs is a model and thinks moving to Sydney will be good for her career. So don't think he's a certainty to stay in QLD

Sad when people are getting excited about the possibility of signing of Walters

Our fringe first grade player trend continues ...how many seasons now ??

Is he 'even' a fringe player?

25...one NRL game (during rep rounds, i.e. only because the storm had half their team out)

Not stood out much in QLD cup.

If he even plays a few decent games for us it will be a bonus.

Yes you two poor poor souls should get a date to drown your sorrows.
Hate to be anywhere near the bloody "tear-shot".

Nothing to do with being a "poor soul" mate, just being realistic. We have signed a QLD cup player. I am just downplaying it and hoping we get lucky and he proves people wrong.

Coming from QLD at 25 cup you can't expect a miracle, but you can hope for a guy who tries and maybe can contribute some weeks. That is not being negative, it is being realistic.

Again, I don't want to sound negative here..............but if his Mrs is a model and wants Sydney, then you can bet he ends up at Bondi.

How many players do we have signed for next year?

25 + 3 development players in Kane Bradley, Henry Lealuga-Puhotau, Jock Madden. Brings us to 28 if they move into the top 30 next season (can't remember how development contracts work with top 30)

So far we have 3 development players for 2020 in Reece Hoffman, Henry Lealuga-Puhotau and Jake Simpkin. We are allowed 2 more development players.

According to his profile page on the WT site, Kane Bradley "is signed through at Wests Tigers until the end of the 2021 season." What that entails is vague. I'm assuming he will be upgraded to the top 30 for 2020-2021.

Jock Madden is off contract, from what I can tell. He turns 20 next year so it seems a bit too early to give up on him. Dunno what they'll do there as those five development spots are invaluable and should be used in an effort to secure the best, young talent as early as possible.

How do these "development" contracts work? I know that the players can play NRL after June 30, but do they have to be upgraded to the top 30 within some set time period? We have spots in our top 30 now being taken up by Smith, McIntyre and Seyfarth who are unlikely to play NRL in the next 2 years. Why did we upgrade them, particularly on multi year deals when they have shown nothing to suggest that they are close to NRl standard?

* They can play NRL after June 30 without being in the top 30.
* Players on development contracts have no restrictions on training and things the club can do for them. Basically, they can do everything a top 30 player can do except actually play NRL (while applying the above).

Unsure what else a development contract provides.

Dev contracts basically allow top youngsters to be full time and avoid the mandatory training /education requirements that flegg players have. So they can develop faster. And can play nrl 2/3 the way through the season.

A club decides how long the dev contract is either one or two years usually. Players like talau, madden, Bradley and seyfarth were in one year dev contracts and 2 year nrl deals. But we upgraded talau and seyfarth a few months early to save some cash.
Next year there's already 4 dev players : simpkin, Cini, lealuga puhotau and hoffman.

The problem with Dev contracts is if they're the wrong player you end up wasting nrl spots for a couple of years. It's basically gambling on high schoolers. Players like McIntyre, Smith and Gibbs were poor choices as there's limited first grade prospects. Mikaele we got 100% right, give him a year training full time then chuck him in nrl.

Interestingly other clubs have used these contracts for players who've played nrl and use them as emergency backups for the first grade spine. The Roosters with Drew Hutchison for example.

I read somewhere tthis week hat Madden is still on a development contract next year? Hopefully thats the case? Brooks, Benji, Grub, Walters and Madden all in the 30 man squad seems a bit much. I think Hoffman is on a 2 year development one aswell.

@happy_tiger not really too excited about the singing...utility will be his only option once lidz is fit imo....as for arrow it’s a big dream but even if we don’t get him I’d say we’d be on the market for a starting prop meaning my ideal bench could possibly stay the same....also I’d have ET there but by 2021 I’d say he’d be close to retirement or SL

Probably no longer possible with the signing of Walters but I'd sure like to get Brittain into our club since Souths have released him. A good no nonsense hooker.

Any recollection where you read that?

It's possible that as a half we would put 2 of his 3 years as dev contract while his body develops. The fact he was captaining our CC squad this year suggests he's well in the frame for future first team plans.

@ElleryHanley there are plenty of examples of people being successful from that position. You need to try and find positives in situations. We signed a player who has honed his game in the melbourne storm system will he be a world beater maybe maybe not. Could he be the next city walker maybe. He is a low risk high reward signature they are what we need until we have coin

Re the "Storm system", he trains and lives in QLD and with their side. He has not been a "part" of the Storm system of training weekly, professionalism etc.

Cody Walker was a prodigy, with freakish natural talent. He developed mentally late, yes.

Look, I have nothing against Walters and I think he will be a decent signing on a very low wage. If he plays some back up 6 and 9, a few decent games, he will be well worth it.

But people are talking as though he will be some untapped gem who becomes an NRL starter with us. He has barely registered any try assists in QLD cup.............it is nuts to think as a 6 or 9 for us he is going to be able to unlock NRL defenses.

A solid, back up, would be a good result.

Maika Sivo age 25, picked up by Parra from Penrith CC team, no NRL games to his name, scored 12 tries last year in CC, minimum wage NRL player this year, leading NRL try scorer this year, they are out there

I see others on here have have already mentioned this so there may be something to it. This is the "rumours" section, im just passing on what i have heard and this is the place to post it, so here goes -

Take this post with a grain of salt as nothing may come of it and it could all be misinformation and Chinese whispers from all involved but ive heard from 3 different sources, 2 from within the club [a trainer and a friend in the back office] and from a league reporter who was with the trainer when i spoke to him, that theres a strong possibility Kevs kid, Bill Walters has/is signing with the Tigers as he is off contract with the Storm next year.

From my conversations with these guys i also picked their brains to find out that the club is also looking to move on a long serving club favourite however are open to a 1 year contract to get him to 15 years of service and a 250 game, 1 club player if he wants it. He wouldnt want much so the club can go either way. Benji is a 95% chance to go on for another year thus next year like this year will be a swansong for 2 Tiger greats playing in their final year [Benji twice now as this was to be his last year with Robbie but his body is holding up and Maguire wants his experience on the field around a young half back in Walters].

The club will not resign most that are coming off contract this year and in 2020, freeing up 15-20 new spots for the top 30 in the 2021 season. They have also been looking at players overseas to import with such a large number of spots available to fill by 2021. As with all of us fans, the club knows that the current roster is complete trash and they are still fuming over the Ivan situation and have given Maguire 100% control to build his team with no salary cap issues from 2021 with the hope of results by 2022, i.e consistent Top 6 quality side on wards . The club knows we have no chance to get anywhere near the 8 with the current players and quality of recent player signings and will be doing another complete shedding from players coming off contract. 2020 will be a hard year and will produce much the same as this year in terms of results, possibly jag 7 - 8th spot if a few results go our way next year, but they are realistically expecting a 9th - 13th place with the quality they are putting on the park and going out of their way to shed the roster and clean up cap space and hope the fans can see what they are doing. Maguire has complete and final say in signings and it all rests on his head.

Major top $$$ sponsors, ill assume for 3rd party agreements are being chased hard to be competitive with current top 8 sides, this is a priority.

Next year will be -

Benji/Brooks - 6
Walters/Brooks - 7
Liddle/Brooks - 9

The club isnt sure where to play Brooks, they dont feel continuing to play him at half back will bring the club any success and he isnt coming along as they had hoped by now but they see him as a key player thats good for the club in utility value and is well liked. Pending an upper body bulk up in the off season he will play as hooker shared with Liddle next year and they will trial him in and out of there for the remainder of this year and trials early next year. From the bulk up of playing hooker and hoping he doesnt lose too much pace they could be looking at playing him as a bigger running 5/8 in 2021 after Benji leaves with Walters in the half back roll controlling the play and leaving Liddle who is older/fitter/heavier to play hooker full time in 2021. Liddle is signed to 2021, if he isnt producing/more injuries, he will be gone after 2020/2021.

Reynolds will be offloaded to either the Storm or Titans. Club in talk with both teams to offload Reynolds and in talks with 3 others teams to offload a couple of others under contract. Overseas clubs are being talked to, i.e player swaps.

Also another rumour is a very fast, dynamic, young outside back has/is signing soon and a big named hard working forward [2nd row/lock] in the Matterson quality range has agreed to terms but has not signed, a family issue, i.e. partners employment could keep him from coming as he would be moving interstate and wants his family to move with him. So that could go 50/50 on that one. The tigers are hoping Aloiai's fitness and discipline improves from a 40-50 minute player to a 60+ minute player as they want some starch in the back row with this line up - 11.Matterson 12. new signing 13. Aloiai.

That will be pretty much all the big signings until the team takes the park in 2021/2022. Very lean otherwise in the signing department, lots of second stringers to fill in a gap year or 2, think Momo quality level.

When the outside back and the forward signings are 100% confirmed to me, I will name them.

Standby.

Walters now confirmed, 2 yr contract. The Matterson news is concerning, it started as a manager trying to renegotiate a contract after a stellar year by his client. Anti-Tigers media has blown it up.

The Benji revelation as a very good fill in hooker against the Knights kept him in that role as they made a serious attempt at the finals thus Brooks stayed at 7.

A couple of signings still to come, forward and back.

Standby.
