@balmain-boy I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when that decision was made. A positive is the POM said we would only release him if it was of benefit to the WT. I guess we wait now to see the score.

'The benefit' may simply be releasing him to enable having enough coin available to get a good signing over the line...

The cynical me thinks that the WTF signing was going to happen tomorrow but then all of a sudden big Sam Burgess retires, followed by Gillette in Brisbane. Now Souths and broncos have money to spare all of a sudden and our tomorrows announcement is cancelled because said player now signs with Souths/Broncos.

Wounded Magpie a couple of days ago posted something about a sponsor telling him that a major WTF signing would happen by the end of the week. Take that for what it’s worth.

Souths and the Broncos to medically retire their players will have to go via the same assessment process as WTs. I read a news article that it will be one month's duration.

Souths haven't even applied for medical retirement yet. And it's unlikely Broncos have either. It could take until Christmas for those cases to be resolved. And so they can't sign anyone using their cap space until they get official approval to do so.

Isn't it usually accepted practice that a club losing a player makes the announcement? WTs have kicked off the market with Marsters and Matterson being announced as losses. Seems to me announcements will follow.,
