Wasn't there some English forward from St Helens people were talking about on here a while ago?

I'm actually amazed we don't look at the Super League more given how well Gareth Ellis turned out for us

Not only Ellis, but look how good Canberra have done. There’d be dozens more over there who are no names in Australia, who would be just as good.

I don't know about that. The ones that Canberra got were named at 2nd row in the ESL Dream Team in the year before they were signed (Whitehead in 2014 and Bateman in 2018) and were incumbent internationals.

There aren't dozens with that kind of pedigree. Recent 2nd rowers in the dream team are:
Liam Farrell (2015 and 2019) - former English international - aged 29
Josh Jones (2019) - Great Britain international - aged 26
Mike McMeeken (2017) - former English international - aged 25 (had an average 2019)
Ben Currie (2016) - former English international - aged 25 (had an average 2019)

Maybe if we are going to have a crack at LM we might have found a way to get Reynolds and or Mbye off our hands. I dont think Mitchell is worth $1.1 mil a year but he's certainly worth the sort of money Mbye & Reynolds is on considering one was meant to play fullback and the other plays reggies. If you look at the value for money we have there, thats far more wasteful than paying Mitchell $900 a season to play fullback and kick goals.

I find it strange that it is 6 days into Nov and we have not really heard of any actual movements yet.. Not just Tigers but a lot of clubs and team are getting ready for pre-season in a few weeks.. Maybe the calm before the storm :eyes:

It will take just 1 player to make a move and then it will be a domino effect.
The same as it was with the coaches late last year.

Outside of 2nd rowers Liam Watts, Daryl Clark and Luke Thompson are the others that would likely do well in the NRL.

@Nelson

Or if you want a good turnaround story, how well has Jackson Hastings done over there? I don't know what exactly went on with him at Manly, but he seems to have really matured over in England and has set the Super League on fire. Though Wigan has now signed him from Salford.

I mean if we somehow get rid of JR, no fault of his own just he costs to much to be playing Reggie’s this spine for 2020 to 2021 don’t look to bad

1.Trell(GK)
3.Mbye in 2021
6.Benji 2020 then milf 20021
7.Brooks
9.Mbye🤢 (2020) lidz 2021
14. Walters or MCK depending on current forward rotations

A signing like Mitchell would attract others.

A signing like Mitchell and we wouldn’t be able to afford any others! He’d want a big contract. I’d rather spread what cash we do have around on signing 3 or 4 decent players than putting it all into just one marquee player - we need strengthening across the park, not just at fullback or centre.

Why bother then. Let’s try and sign Michael Jennings instead. Complain when we’re linked to superstars and complain when we’re linked to players who are over the hill. The club can’t win.

Being linked is great but paying too much is a habit we have to lose.

You aren’t going to sign any marquee players by being a scrooge. If you want star power, you have to open your wallet. If you aren’t willing, lots of luck with Michael Jennings.

I get it GNR. Really I do. It's all very exciting to have the likes of him being considered a distinct possibility of joining us. But I have reservations too - all of which have been raised on here and I think they're all valid. The roosters are almost seeming kind of desperate to get rid of him much like we were in the end with Matterson. That alone speaks volumes. I'm not yet convinced. If it gets done, and Madge hits the cameras with a good dose of positivity my opinion will probably change. I'd rather we go for a Frizzell and get that done. Mitchell - I'm not over the line.

I think one of the things potential players look at when considering switching clubs is the roster and who they will play with.

If Latrell came here on say $1M but that then encouraged other players to see potential of building a strong roster around him then to me it’s a good move.

Let’s face it the kid can play and is a great goal kicker!!

To all those concerned because the Roosters appear happy to get rid of him, so there must be some underlying issue, this of course may be true but just as likely is that they realise that with Teddy there, Mitchell will always be a centre and with Teddy on>$1M, plus a range of other players on big money, they cant justify a centre on nearly $1M. Centres are easier to find for them and cheaper.

We dont have the same luxuries and have pretty big holes at fullback & centre.

Not complaining, just looking at it differently, if you care to read my posts properly.

There's inherent risk with every signing.

Realistically, every contract is only ever one carry or tackle away from being a WOFTAM.

Maybe being rissoled from Easts (if that is indeed what is happening,) will get the fire in the belly.

You are very funny :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: @Go_You_Good_Things: And I hope you got good things :horse_racing: :racehorse: :rhinoceros: in the Melbourne Cup yesterday. Cheers :fa-smile-o: :snowman: :santa:

I think Mitchell at $1m for 3 years is okay, but I think Mitchell at $1m for 10 years (as per the bulldogs reported offer) will be a disaster. I think there is a big chance he trails off at the back end of his career.

Do I think we will get $1m worth of quality out of him? Probably not. He floats in and out of games , and if the forwards arent going forward I dont know if he will have as much impact. The biggest positive is he could (as previously said) attract players to our club. Its a big reason Matterson left in my opinion.

one thing is for sure, he would definitely get the meat in the seats if we did sign him.....

G'day @GNR4LIFE: my guess is that you got your $2 back in the sweep as your horse came last.
I know nothing about horse racing other than the recent report about cruelty to horses no longer wanted for racing.

Have a great day and keep your posts coming :santa:

There seems to be a report every 30mins about Mitchell at the moment. Recent report on NRL.com that he wants to play fullback (supposedly at the Bulldogs) but they already have DWZ. If he wants to play fullback I think the best options are for us or Knights. Imagine Knights with LM at 1 and Ponga at 6.
