Well this sounds like a Tigers day.. We release Marsters and Matterson and sign Abby ... Unfortunately its no surprise for me as this is just the norm. :rage: :rage:
I know its more for reserve grade but the longer this rubbish goes on the less likely we sign anyone decent.. WE are just bottom feeders and its driving me nuts..

The longer nothing the less likely is nothing. You've gone off way too soon on this, still 4 months until a footy is even kicked in the next regular season.

@happy_tiger I am totally with you on this. This guy would be great addition to our backrow...young, aggressive in his play on both sides of the ball and plays long minutes and wont cost the earth.

If you read Maguire comments in the NRL.com article he sounds interested in Mitchell but says there are a few things they need to sort out in the cap first. I would assume this would be Macqueen and higher priced players Reynolds and maybe Mbye. There are other players obviously on his radar and it’s obvious we need more than one star player taking up most of the remaining cap room.

After Abbey assuming 100k contract we have circa 1.5m left in the cap and now 4 spots 1m on Mitchell leaves 3 spots and 500k which will not work. I believe we will be letting a few more go before commuting better players in 2020.

I don’t have any inside word just arithmetic.

We're still in a strong position to make some deals with marquee players for 2020. McQueen will be another big contract off the books at the end of the year, so we could offer whoever we are talking to for 2020, a significant upgrade in 2021.

I don’t even know who Brad Abbey is!

I’m pretty sure Brad Abbey is the skinny tall guy that played for the Dogs then Raiders .. can play either wing / fullback / or centres. He’s gutsy, determined, safe under the high ball, and has a bit of speed about him .. but every time he runs the ball the up he gets smashed .. but he keeps getting up, sucks he’s guts in and goes again .. !!

Solid signing at basement price really, if he kicks on it's great, if he doesn't no loss.

As others have said, if Abbey's on minimum wage what's the big deal? If he does better than expected, like Corey Thompson, excellent! If he doesn't, well he's on minimum wage. A minimum wage signing saves money for bigger signings. He seems to have a bit of talent, but has just had bad luck with injuries and being stuck behind bigger name players.
