Yep sadly, there is no one decent left for us to buy! After all the anticipation of possibly signing Mitchell and us having so much money to spend in the market, our recruitment has been very disappointing. Leilua is a good buy, but that's about it. He's the only one of our targets we've actually managed to hit! It's really frustrating.

I am not as worried as others regarding our inability to sign players. I suspect it’s a timing issue with our pursuit (and reported tentative agreement) with LM, we probably were too late for Lomax, Drinkwater etc. Their negotiations would have started some time ago and we obviously thought we had our target - alas we have missed the boat.

So in the absence of anything better, I would look to front end so see contracts so our war chest next year is massive.

It’s been an issue for years. And there’s no sign it’s changing. Despite all the talk and bluster. Our current top 17 is very very average.

I believe that until we are able to play finals football on a regular basis only 3 finals appearance in 20 years. And prove that we are a strong well run club with stability we will be unable to attract the good players. But for the first time i feel confident in management and coach that they can turn the club around .And turn us into a powerhouse and a club we can all be proud of

Yeah we do seem to have a bit of a problem. We’ve got more cash than anyone but we’ve only been able to sign Leilua. You would think a premiership winning coach would be an attraction but it’s certainly not looking that way. We identified **Drinkwater, Mitchell, Lomax, Milford, Brimson** as potential fullback options and we’ve missed out on all of them.

At the risk of being labelled a Baghdad Bob or even worse crashing the pity party that is going on in the forum. its worth noting that in that list of players that we have supposedly "targeted" (based on what media reports?), none of them have left their own clubs. Im sure they would have spoken to other clubs besides us, but it is always an advantage to be the home club and it will take extra to drag them away. Particularly that list because all but Mitchell would need to relocate their families interstate.

Ive said it a few times, the only players that have actually left their clubs that we have missed out on are Tetevano & Capewell, personally Im glad we missed both of them. Looks like we missed Arrow ***if*** we were actually interested in him but again at $800Kpa Im glad we did.

Not seeing the doom & gloom. I like the Leilua pick up and the kids we have bought are good. Still time yet.

Flanagan cant coach dragons this year, even if Mary goes first week.

NRL are kidding themself if they think Flanagan won't coach them this year. He'll talk like a coach, look like a coach, act like a coach, just Dragons'll call him something else, and call McGregor the coach instead.

Tigers have been wise signing young guys looking for an opportunity Leilua, Walters, Stefano, Musgrove. Extended Aloai, MCK, Mikalele, Twal, Garner.

We are a top 8 side as it is Packer, Aloai, Mbye didn’t finish out the year. I’m expecting big improvements from Aloai, Twal, Packer, Garner, Leilua, Corey, Talau, Momirovski.

We lost Matterson, Farah, Marsters.
I’m expecting Aloai to own the 13 and Leilua to be a strike player on the right edge. They will cover Matterson. Either Talau or Momirovski are improvements over marsters. The biggest loss is Farah but Liddle comes back early so we should be covered with Reynolds, Walters.

We need to keep building from within no more paying Players overs patience and building the right way is the only option.

Unless it’s a star player we shouldn’t get into any bidding wars. Keep the 1m+ as there is always a player looking to get out before June 30 each year. Recent years DWZ, Waqa Blake are examples.

Well, there is no point in wasting the money, buying someone like Moylan who will then mess up our cap for the next three years or so. We are getting the juniors, getting the facilities, we finally have some cash, now we just need to land the one marque player and then we start to turn our mediocre rep around.

Mitchell is only one we have tried to land really, and though we haven't got him, really it would be a miracle with our history to land a big player on our first attempt. It might take a while, and if necessary we may miss out this year, but then we front load the contracts, and have an even bigger chest for next time. We gotta expect to pay slightly overs to land that first big name, but once we get one (and assuming it doesn't all go terribly bad, what's the likelihood of that? *shudder*) things will start to improve and we can compete.

Remember, we're just aiming to compete with the rest of the teams and get above average, the top teams cheat constantly and are miles ahead of us. Without some hardcore cheating, it's going to be extremely hard to get close to where the Storm, Roosters, Broncos, Sharks are (even Eels and the Cows are extremely dodgy, remember the real estate arrangements up north and the 'let's cheat' in their meeting minutes at the Eels).

Hardly a pity party, just a few people wondering why we don't sign too many players from the top rung. There's an element of truth to what you say about it being harder to lure players away from their clubs except when it comes to us. Do you agree that our record in keeping our own players who we wanted to keep is pretty poor over say the last 10 years. A agree Leilua is a good buy and we have absolutely nailed our junior recruitment the last two years but we have a tendency to lose the really good ones we want to keep and not secure the really good ones from other clubs.

The key to this 'war chest' is making the 8 in 2020. Atm, no one wants to come here because of inability to play finals football. We need to make the 8 as of next year and this is critical for us attracting the right players when all this $$ becomes available.

Whilst I agree the squad is average, Zac also knocked back the Raiders not just us.

Difference is the Raiders wouldn't have offered him fullback and we would have...

What is this rubbish about Clubs offering players positions...no one should be promised a spot..gawd

Potential bringing big reward for players. With big contracts comes big expectations. Lomax about discover the pressure of rising to the occasion.

My thoughts exactly
Players should always be competing for positions

Given how precious players are in this day and age, clubs probsbly feel they have to.

I hadn't even contemplated Dufty before but is there any likelihood Madge could change his turnstile ways in defence? Has a lot of attacking ability and speed.

Did we though ? The only player who we for sure offered a set position is Latrell. Also 6 years 3 mil , is ... a huge gamble . How many players have flashed potential , got paid and never amounted to anything . Karl Filiga says hi . Also Daniel Mortimer as well . Good luck to the dragons . I genuinely hope he turns out to be awesome and I’m glad he stayed loyal .
