Unpopular opinion; but I would make enquiries to see if Israel Folau would come back to league to play at fullback for WT at a cool 1 mill. Edit: potential can of worms here.

The one thing you know when Thompson is on the field is he wont let the team down by lack of effort.

No one would deny this. But effort only gets you so far and we’re going to struggle to make the 8 with him in the position. I like the guy and I think he’s a really capable winger, but he’s not a fullback and he never will be.

Going into 2020 with CT at fullback and no specialist hooker will really hurt us imo.

Personally I'd rate CT as a Lachlan Coote type player... he went alright for the Cowboys with the right team around him.
Granted, missing a real NRL hooker is not good though.

Lachlan Coote is above CT as he has a kicking game. CT doesn't have a kicking game or a passing game. That's the big problem.

That’s not the same thing as players not wanting to sign for us.

Not selective memory, I just don't agree with what you're saying. Respect that's your opinion. My opinion will change when quality players actually do sign with us.

It is an opinion. I don't consider the three you mentioned to be particularly high profile players. Reynolds was discarded by the Dogs, Packer has a high profile for non playing reasons, and Matulino was past his best. The only thing high profile about them was what they were getting paid.

re Packer, he had broken down mid season for Saints (after a very good first half of the season). Legend has it Mary and the Saints staff all got up and clapped when he announced his deal with us (as they were so happy he had made his fortune after being in jail). Saints offer was about 400...ours was 650 plus.

That off season, yes, we did get players to come...but we paid massive overs for Josh and Packer. Not just "overs", but massive.

And we added a fourth year to their deals...just to make sure. Josh Reynolds, with a history of hammys, four years.

It was absolutely irresponsible from Cleary and Pascoe (who sat, smiled and signed off on it all)

But never, ever, throw massive overs again at broken down players past their primes.

To be clear, I don't disagree with any of this. All I'm saying is that there's a difference between (a) the Tigers have signed badly when they have had resources available, and (b) good players won't sign for the Tigers. They could *both* be true, but what I'm saying is that while we know (a) is true we really don't have any evidence of (b).

There is a good case that if he flags a return to the NRL and they refuse him to negotiate/register a contract, it's been suggested that he will take his free speech crusade to court again - NRL don't want that after RA folded their cards & conceded in the mediation case.

There is a good case that if he flags a return to the NRL and they refuse him to negotiate/register a contract, it's been suggested that he will take his free speech crusade to court again - NRL don't want that after RA folded their cards & conceded in the mediation case.

Isnt he 30 or more now? Too old now to come back successfully to NRL.

Re B, I have been a supporter for 40 years and we have never been able to sign elite talent (other than Poms looking for a chance)

I know that is not empirical, but it does seem clear elite players do not want to join us.

When was the last time we signed a current Kangaroo?

Edit: adding to that, when was the last time we also signed a current Origin player?

Yeah he's 30, but he has a few years left, even on the wing à la Lote Tuqiri. He's evergreen too, like SBW who will turn 35 during the superleague season. I'd give Izzy 2 years/1m

How about Cody Walker at fullback? He has kicked 10/12 goals and played 17 games at fullback for the Rabbits. He seems to be down on confidence since SOO and the change of team and roll might suit him. I am not sure about his 1 on 1 defence but offers a lot in attack.

We need to recruit a specialist fullback. His defence is ordinary and fullback is no position for someone short of confidence.

His defence is atrocious - and if people think LM has an attitude problem!
