Just in from a (possibly) reliable source: Jackson Hastings and Matt Parcell from Super League.

Are you serious? Credible source? I would be OVER THE MOON if we signed Jackson Hastings. He was a champion player last season. He almost single handedly took lowly cellar-dwelling Salford to the grand final.

I'm more excited by this than any other player yet mentioned, including Latrell, no joke!!

If we signed Hastings for 2020 where would he fit in? I didn’t watch a lot of super league last year but I always remember him playing in the halves when in the NRL.

It might be for 2021 as he was Wigan's big signing for this year, they mightn't release him.

When I said we should be looking at the ESL, I meant we should be looking at English players, waiting to be discovered. Diamonds in the rough. Not ex pats who went to England cos they couldn’t get contracts here. Hastings by all reports is one of the most hated players in the game. Hated by other players that is. Parcell had a few good games, but I’m far from convinced about him. They’d be underwhelming signings.

Parcell would be good backup at dummy half given we lack experience in that position and he brings a lot of speed and endurance at what id assume would be min wage.

Hastings would be a great replacement for Benji in 2021 and a really shrewd signing by Madge of true.

Parcel would be good, but a huge no to Hastings. As a related issue, we cannot enter 2020 without at least two additional backs with genuine pace plus the promotion of another very fast back from the lower grades. We have a pop gun attack besides Benji, Brooks and Talau. So JAC and AJ are a must.

Who knows how Talau is going to perform ? I'd have every other first grade back ahead of him at this point in time.

Momo, Mbye, Nofo, Thompson & even Jennings to me are all first grade players whereas Talau is unproven.

I completely agree though with the idea that we need some quality backs. It's a clear weakness and our halves are going to struggle with those guys outside them.

They wouldn't be great signings. Latrell and JAC versus these guys.

Everyone at Salford was aware of the perception of Jackson Hastings' personality when they signed him. Hastings was well aware of this himself and spoke openly about it.

Nobody at the club, including fans, had a bad word to say about him though, after they signed him. I think what happened at Manly really changed him and he pulled his head right in. He knows his career was nearly over before it started.

That's all well and good but he has no pace (which was always an issue with his playing ability). We don't require another slow back or hooker. There are far more talented players in our lower grades. Why fritter our money away on marginal signings?

No way is he marginal. He would be a star. A Benji c2005 player. He would be the attacking spark we've lacked for years.

He was one of the reasons England never won a game in the Pacific tournament.

Yes an absolute champion - NOT!.

Not at all, that was Wayne Bennett's senility kicking in. Worst positional selections in recent history. Bennett went mad.

Look, I'm not talking up Hastings just because he may be coming here. I'm talking him up based on watching him closely at Salford all 2019. He turned the club around by himself.

He is not fit to lace up Benji's boots.

I think you are looking at Hastings through rose coloured glasses.

Yeah, but you’re judging him on ESL form. A competition that”s 10 rungs below NRL. Benji circa 05 playing in the ESL would be like Steve Smith facing club cricketers. Speaking of which, if you really believe Hastings is Benji circa 05 good, you need to go back and watch a few games from that year. Not to mention, every club would be after him, and we would not have even bothered with LM in the first place.

In Super League, there are haves, and there are have nots. Salford is and always has been a have not. Across the park, their players are inferior, by a country mile, to teams like Wigan, Warrington, St Helens etc. Their grand final appearance with the squad they had last year was a miracle, and it was thanks to Hastings.

Yeah I think you’re making valid points here. There seems to be a huge divide between the quality between their backs and ours. I’d be happy with a couple of ESL forwards, they have a good track record here.

I agree that these signings would be a bit underwhelming.

He would be a great backup for benji who
I doubt will play every game this year
BIG yes to parcell also
To me hooker is our biggest concern.we looked most dangerous 2019 season when benji slotted in there

I really do get that. But if you think on average Super League players are worse, then his team mates at Salford were at an another (lower) level entirely. If Wigan are the Newtown Jets, Salford are the Bourke over-80s arthritis rehabilitation club. To get Salford to the grand final was remarkable.

He has no pace! ESL is where he belongs.
