I know this has been said before but I think the strategy of building from the bottom, in other words sign a swathe of promising juniors from around the league and develop them patiently is really the way to go for the Tigers. As many have said, we just don’t have the drawing power of other clubs to snare the marque players, actually we plain haven’t earned any type of drawing power. Nearly all of our star players have come from within, Benji being the classic example. Maybe when we have begun to assemble a talented squad, established a stable coaching and management team we will begin to be attractive to the elite players, who should be signed based on need or an attempt to provide the icing on the cake. By developing players from the junior ranks there is a much better chance of establishing team harmony and avoiding attitudes of entitlement and selfishness. It’s a proven recipe. Look at the Storm.

Thats exactly what is happening. We are building from the ground up. Its refreshing and why i refuse to entertain the sky is falling brigade.

Interesting side note is what Maguire comes back from England with. Canberra had the same problem attracting top line talent. They worked out a way around it. Smart operators usually do. Others sign players like Rankin and Packer.

While this is all good, we have had extremely talented juniors in our system previously. These are juniors who have gone on to future success. I am not referring to the big three. What confidence should we have that this "second coming" will not end in a repeat performance of the failures of the past?

The fact that Maguire isn't relying on our own juniors. Previous coaches ruined our junior system. This guy is stocking it with the best from around the country.

Well I like the emphasis on outstanding juniors. Mind you we have had plenty of very good juniors out of the Balmain junior district and still do. However, we need to improve our retention.

Tigers are poaching promising juniors from other clubs because they are probably sick of spending heaps of cash on bringing through their own juniors for the to be poached by a bigger cashed up club that will reap the rewards of the money we have invested in that player

A good example is Tedesco
Was in our system for at least 8 years and for us to persist with him even though he had a terrible run with injuries in his youth for him to up and leave us for a bigger club and not stick with the club that stuck by him through his injuries

So now Tigers are probably just going to steal other promising juniors from other clubs to not invest so much money into them as they have in the past

I’d be careful where we’re poaching them from. Rolling the dice bringing them down from QLD as 17 and 18 year olds imo. Always the danger of them getting homesick. Call me crazy but that’s why i’m not getting invested in Simpkin and Hoffman at this stage.

I have said for sometime now that the junior development & grades below reserve grade should be taken from the clubs and run by the NRL or an underneath independent body. It then avoids the clash of developing juniors for them to be lured elsewhere to another club. It is just open slather and the NRL clubs are solely responsible for their NRL level team and reserves - say 45 - 50 players and thats it.

Just in from a (possibly) reliable source: Jackson Hastings and Matt Parcell from Super League.

I would not be against that if true, but still lacking pace in backs (unless JAC is trying to get here to WT as the 30th spot) .

Parcell would make plenty of sense, especially if Reynolds is stood down. Hastings would have to be as Benji's successor in 2021, Wigan are refusing to let him walk from this contract.

Hastings has experience at fullback

And hates Gladstone ....and Cherries

I was gonna say, he'd be helpful specifically against Manly.

Parcell would be good backup at dummy half given we lack experience in that position and he brings a lot of speed and endurance at what id assume would be min wage.

Hastings would be a great replacement for Benji in 2021 and a really shrewd signing by Madge of true.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Hastings wouldn't be a bad signing. He is a good player, just a bit of a goose in his mindset (which can change with maturity). If think a coach like Madge would get the best out of him as opposed to a coach like Cleary.

Parcel would be good, but a huge no to Hastings. As a related issue, we cannot enter 2020 without at least two additional backs with genuine pace plus the promotion of another very fast back from the lower grades. We have a pop gun attack besides Benji, Brooks and Talau. So JAC and AJ are a must.

Are you serious? Credible source? I would be OVER THE MOON if we signed Jackson Hastings. He was a champion player last season. He almost single handedly took lowly cellar-dwelling Salford to the grand final.

I'm more excited by this than any other player yet mentioned, including Latrell, no joke!!

Hastings is a banker by all reports.
Thinks he's Connor McGregor.

I followed him closely this year, as I have a soft spot for Salford (because they're normally so bad). By all reports he really pulled his head in this year, and was well liked by everyone in the club.

If we signed Hastings for 2020 where would he fit in? I didn’t watch a lot of super league last year but I always remember him playing in the halves when in the NRL.
