Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Still in shock AD is being talked about in the 500k range. Honestly, how did that even happen at Souths.

Simply put, AD is not a 500k player. He is JUST potential at this moment.

$300-$350 k player

The highest paid tiger on the books for 2020 is Josh Reynolds he currently takes up roughly 7% of the cap. That is horrendous. Luckily for tigers they have brooks on a lower end contract for halves in NRL (500k) which equals about 4.5% and Benji which is about 2.5% generally MOST nrl clubs would have close to 25% of the cap Tied up in the “spine” even with a bad contract
On their hands with a player who probably won’t play a game this year tigers spine only soak up 18% of the cap. So adding douehi who could conceivably play 2 positions in the spine for 500k taking up about another 4.5% of the cap, isn’t terrible given the situation.

Brooks' 550k contract was for 2018-2019. His new contract started this season (2020-2023). He'll be earning in the 850-900k region.

Mbye [reported to be earning 950k](https://www.sportingnews.com/au/league/news/state-of-origin-news-and-rumours-moses-mbye-becomes-latest-nrl-millionaire/1ak511nmc3dgk13w7izxgv1suw).

I can tell you neither of those numbers are correct

Madge talking about recruitment approach
“We need to be clear about not making the same mistakes this club’s made in the past,” Maguire said.

“We’re in the process of making major changes but we need to be smart about how we make those changes.

“The position our salary cap is in at the moment, we need to get players’ values spot on.

“We want to give players the best opportunity to build something here at Wests Tigers that hasn’t been here at the club for some time.

“We’ve got a great young squad, now we just need to be patient about making the right decisions around who we bring into the club next.

“We won’t be just spending money for the sake of spending it.

“I’d rather take my time and focus on building the club from the ground up. We’ll be diligent about making the right decisions.”

And if we sign Josh Hoffmann , he looks like a total idiot (and yes I left a word out )

Better option than than Kane Mcquiggin & McIntyre playing in the centres. Far out

What ....

Read what Madge said 'we are waiting for the right players" and then we sign Hoffman (top 30 or not top 30 )

Madge will look a complete idiot

I don't believe the pom
Edit: he might be right

What do you have against Canterbury Cup signings. ?

Because it is an attempt to cover over the fact no one worth two bob wants to play NRL here

Play it out whatever way you like ...and the comments by Maguire back that up

People seem to think we have had two months to sign players for 2020 ....we've had since November 2018 and the best we have come up with is Leilua

If people aren't questioning where the club is at right now ...they never will

Really?

Hoffman has played very limited games the past three years...many of them limited minutes / many of them he broke down in.

I realise our state cup backline is terrible, but could we not try and recruit a youngster who:
**A Might play most weeks
B Possibly develop and become an NRL player one day**

Surely we want a state cup team where players down there are applying pressure and / or developing?

Hoffman will be 32 mid season.

Plenty of state cup players due to step up

Lol its always funny when arm chair coaches throw around cap figures like they have a clue, Jesus even the journos have no idea of exact amounts. Madge has stated publically he won't do what we have done for the last ten years and overpay players. I trust this approach and hope we get gun players like everyone else. If we don't ill assume they wanted more then there worth to the team.

Our cc team was deadset awful last year. You can't have a team of teenagers playing against men every week, having someone like Hoffman who's versatile and experienced is invaluable. Ask Wenty.

If we can get BJ Leilua this season and Addo-Carr next season, they will be a formidable combination.

Leilua has good stats across linebreaks, avg running metres and try assists https://www.raiders.com.au/teams/telstra-premiership/canberra-raiders/joseph-leilua/

As an example,

Latrell makes a try assist in 25% of games...BJ is on par.
Latrell makes a line break in 65% of matches, whereas BJ is at 50%
Latrell averages 90 running metres/game, BJ averages over 100

They are different players of course, so not always useful to compare in this way, but he offers a lot for the money we would be paying.

He's good value, albeit I'd rather have had him 1 or 2 years ago as he's getting to the end of his career.

Not fussed with Douehi - he's done some good things, but hasn't shown enough over 2-3 seasons to command $500k+ a season. At $300k, it's a different story, but $500k at this stage in his career is too much. Only in my personal opinion of course.

Looks like our recruitment team is being savvy and not rushing into signing players at any price.

Problem is Brooks needs good service from dummy half to be creative and to give him time and you need an option at fullback to then to try and stop defences camping off whatever Brooks might be looking at creating and his ball runners

We honestly shouldn't even be taking a 2nd look at Leilua until we fix at least one of those two issues

There’s no top hookers available. Peats or Mahoney the best available. No real upgrade. Farah going will be a positive.

AD at $375k this year, as Souths would have paid $125k already, and the full $600k for 2021, followed by let's say $500k the year after would be $1.475m over 3 years, that's less thyan $500k a year. For a player we anticipate on playing in our spine, less than $500k a year is cheap.

Well worth it imo, Our problems lie in the fact that Reynolds and MBye both are on somewhere near $900k each, and there's nothing we can do about that now.

Edit: IF we don't think he's worth $500k, why are we trying to buy him??

I say do it, grab Douehi and BJ Leulua and then start courting Kane Evans just to force Eels hand to release Big Stef.
