Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

FInd it funny how people talk about salaries like its still 2004. THe salary cap is 10 million, the bottom 10 would average say 200k each leaving 8m for the top 20 players - what you would descrive as geneuine first graders. That is an average of 400k over your top 20 so if you are signing a bloke to play starting fullback a key position and think he would sign for an average top 20 players money or that a guy who has been twice Dally M centre of the year in the last 3 years would come for 400k an average salary then you have rocks in your head and clearly can't do much counting

One or both should be announced this week (AD/BJ)

Oh God, here we go again with the bold statements about who we’re signing and when. Have you actually got anything right at all so far this off season?

I just report what I hear. Lots of balls in the air from several clubs. Things change. Remember when tedesco signed with raiders. Tigers have held talks with about half a dozen players in the last fortnight, looks like they are settling in on BJ and AD for 2020. they wanted JAC and have had contact but looks like a messy situation that will be revisited mid season unless that management issue is resolved

To all and sundry saying "Just chuck the extra $100-$200K at AD and make it happen, it probably cant happen like that AND still get BJ.

If it comes down to BJ WANTS to come here and we can make it happen, but that means we cant throw an additional $100-$200K at AD to make it happen (at reported rates for AD), Im OK with that.

Make BJ happen, he is a specialist and proven over years, MBYE or CT in the 1.

If we can still squeeze AD in and he wants to come here, happy days but dont get in a bidding war with other clubs or get into a negotiation fight with Souffs if it means missing BJ.

Appreciate your opinion but I think if I had to choose one or the other I’d be going with AD. Not that I think it matters as we should have enough cap space for both.

As you say, differing opinions and you are entitled to yours but with Doueihi reportedly on $600K next year and BJ on reportedly $550, and we have 3 spots to fill and I think minimum now is $85K(?), I think there might be a lot of pressure on the cap to get both.

Tigers can comfortably fit both + another player for around the 300k mark if they choose to do so

Madge talking about recruitment approach
“We need to be clear about not making the same mistakes this club’s made in the past,” Maguire said.

“We’re in the process of making major changes but we need to be smart about how we make those changes.

“The position our salary cap is in at the moment, we need to get players’ values spot on.

“We want to give players the best opportunity to build something here at Wests Tigers that hasn’t been here at the club for some time.

“We’ve got a great young squad, now we just need to be patient about making the right decisions around who we bring into the club next.

“We won’t be just spending money for the sake of spending it.

“I’d rather take my time and focus on building the club from the ground up. We’ll be diligent about making the right decisions.”

And if we sign Josh Hoffmann , he looks like a total idiot (and yes I left a word out )

What do you have against Canterbury Cup signings. ?

Because it is an attempt to cover over the fact no one worth two bob wants to play NRL here

Play it out whatever way you like ...and the comments by Maguire back that up

People seem to think we have had two months to sign players for 2020 ....we've had since November 2018 and the best we have come up with is Leilua

If people aren't questioning where the club is at right now ...they never will

The bulk of the funds we have available are from the release of Matterson and Masters and the medical retirement of Matulino so no, we have not had since November 2018.

Even if the club had an idea those things were going to happen you can’t spend the money till it’s all offical and signed off so we’ve had since October 2019 at best.

Still in shock AD is being talked about in the 500k range. Honestly, how did that even happen at Souths.

Simply put, AD is not a 500k player. He is JUST potential at this moment.

$300-$350 k player

Chek out all the first grade fullbacks earning at least $500K

If people honestly think that Addo-Carr is a chance to come to the tigers, they haven’t been paying attention this entire offseason. The tigers recruitment staff have proven they’re unable to attract big name players with options. ***Doueihi on the other hand wants to be here*** and I think it’s crazy they are screwing this opportunity up. What is the point of having cap space if we miss the 8 again

What evidence is there that Doueihi "Wants to be here"? It has been widely reported that he was a Rabbitohs fan as a kid, he loves the club. Ive seen NOTHING that he "Wants to be here". He will take offers from many clubs. If he truly "wants to be here" (why would he. because he was a junior?) then $100K wont matter.

On the other hand there have been reports that BJ "Wants to be here" (media take it for what its worth) but there have been actual quotes from his brother that the club is a great place to be and he has been telling him to come across,

Good post. Douehi has always been a good player. It makes you wonder if there is a disconnect between WTs and Balmain with the quality players es aping our system.

Oh right on time for the Paps commentary

It was been reported both in the mainstream media as well as from the south Sydney side of things and the tigers side that wests are AD’s preferred option. This is due to a number of reason but mostly because we can offer him the 6 role long term but if he plays well for us in 2020 then he also has first crack at fullback. Not to mention he already has a working relationship with Madge. 100 K is a lot of money that I don’t think anyone would just simply give up

I reckon there is more than footy players who love Clubs as a kid and that's MONEY..

Problem is Brooks needs good service from dummy half to be creative and to give him time and you need an option at fullback to then to try and stop defences camping off whatever Brooks might be looking at creating and his ball runners

We honestly shouldn't even be taking a 2nd look at Leilua until we fix at least one of those two issues

There’s no top hookers available. Peats or Mahoney the best available. No real upgrade. Farah going will be a positive.

Depends what Mahoney and Peats are after ....not a Peats fan myself but at the right price ....I've got time for Mahoney ..reckon he has an upside

Explain to me two things.

1. Point me to a MSM report where Doueihi states that the Tigers are his preferred destination.
2. Explain to me the "working relationship with Madge?" Has he ever played under him?

If AD does sign with the tigers as FB, you all think CT could do the hooker role?
Has some pace, and could provide some much needed speed from dummy half, may not be a sizable figure but I believe he is a little bit taller than cook, so I don’t think his size will be an issue, passing game from dummy half isn’t that hard for a first grade footballer, may lack a bit defensively but he did take out some big guys last year at FB.
Just a thought.
