I don't see how Souths is a contender or the more attractive offer unless your dad played thier or your manager is being courted by them.
Wayne IMO is going to do it tough with the forward pack he has and if they get any injuries hmm
I think tigers are finally moving forward the media just acts like we aren't

Media prefer a Rabbits success story, general population would prefer a Tigers one over Souths....

Is this true though? I think we used to be fairly popular with the general population but I don’t think that’s the case anymore. Certainly not from people I know that support other clubs.

How many times have you heard people hate clubs, and how many times have people said they hate the tigers? people see us as harmless and it's cute when we win, but the arrogance Souths have is very visible for everyone to see and people hate it....

I’m not saying we’re hated but I don’t think we’re popular either. We’re a bit of a laughing stock which is deserved to a degree but also very annoying.

I think we're like the raiders of the 2000's. Not a danger team, or a terrible team. Neither liked or hated by others fans. Just an opposition you don't care about except one or twice a year. Bit like the boobies

For those that suggest we get Lichaa, he may not cost much however ,it would mean that he takes up a spot in the 30, So if we do get AD and JL, that leaves us no room to pick up anyone else. So if Stefano does come available this year we could not take him.

I have a feeling we will be hearing from AD and his management some time very soon. We are not coming across as desperate as we were for LM and we learnt a big lesson with how the media can portray us. I like how Madge is playing this, we’ve thrown him an offer and if he wants it or if souths pitch in then let’s table it up. AD definitely has talent, but the world won’t come to an end if we miss out on him. He needs us more than we need him atm.

This is the type of realistic assessment of our club that I like. We are the ones in the box seat. We have great opportunities available for quality players who are prepared to accept hard work and a fair wage. If you want to be overpaid or you don't want to work hard than go to another club.

Mmm? So we are looking for players who don’t want to be paid highly and want to work harder than most players.
That should attract a better than average response. Should we get in extra people to man the phones?

It is called OPPORTUNITY you know that perception of someone giving you a chance for a reasonable amount of money ! This has been lost somewhere in the younger generational mix , some of the greatest sportspeople just needed the opportunity then they came saw and conquered!
A winning culture is born from loyalty..hard work and mateship .. If players are not interested do what Slimey and Matterson did and PEE OFF!

No we are looking for players that want to win a comp. That takes hard work and it requires getting a talented team on the park. One the key factors in getting a talented team on the park is not overpaying players.

Basically, they are. Lol

Exactly. Hmmm should I join a premiership contender for more money and less work or should I go to the Tigers. Not really a hard choice is it.

However it definitely does not apply in Doehi's case (if has ambition)..

By all reports he wants to come here. Souths signed him on a contract some perceive to be too high (not his fault) and we don’t want to pay it. None of this is AD’s fault.

Personally I think he’s worth it. We’re devoid of backline talent with a heap of cash. We’ll also have a lot more players coming off contract that will free up even more cash for 21 and 22. We’re more chance of making the finals with AD at 1 and that will improve our desirability for other players looking to join. He’s worth 5% of the salary cap imo. His best years are ahead of him.

Agree! If DCE is worth 16.5% of Manly’s cap then AD is worth 5% of ours.

We’re pretty likeable, I can’t recall anyone saying they hate the Tigers

Apart from the twin blouses Moses and Matterson, we caused them mental distress apparently. Poor things. Hope they are all warm and fuzzy on the inside playing for the Parra Tapeworms.

Teddy is a prime example of a guy that is extremely hard to build a team around if you are a club on the up like us. He is a primma donna with no loyalty at all. Great player but he is the sort of guy who you don't give your back too unless you want a knife in it.

You can also put Moses, Woods and Matterson into that category. Great players but they won't stay at your club unless they can't get a matched offer elsewhere. Some people can be dud people but good players. Note that I didn't say better offers elsewhere. That is why you have to cull players like that from your club.

Spot on. The gimp is a mercenary. He wanted a club with plenty of cash that were willing to provide him with the soy-latte lifestyle (and give him the Hollywood teeth). Hence Unca Nick ticked all the boxes.

Does that include Farah and Benji? Were they also really really good guys up until they got an offer from another club?
And when they came back did our training suddenly transform them from dud people to being the faces of retail chain The Good Guys?

Bottom line is, you can pay a player a fortune or bugger-all. It doesn't matter in the end. If a club that operates on a seemingly bottomless budget, Rabbitohs and Roosters-style, comes knocking at their door with under the table "extras" as part of their contract they will leave. Regardless of whether they are on $80k or $1m a year at their current club IMO.
That is the sad reality of NRL today.

Does anyone think it’s a good idea for coaches and players to be involved in contract negotiations? Do you know of any examples this has occurred? If so how did it pan out?

In my lifetime I’ve done both, gone to better paying jobs but I’ve also stayed for less money.

He wanted to go to a successful club, one that regularly made the top 8 and who could blame him.
WT was a basket case just before he left, new coach new CEO every time you turned around.
