Whilst we may not have Penrith’s junior nursery, we do have a fair amount of youngsters coming through and we always have had. We have a far better junior base than many of the top teams, though our retention hasn’t been all that flash.

This is the popular perception of the Tigers, but honestly for a big chunk of the past decade our production of juniors was pretty terrible. After Moses in 2014, the best juniors to have debuted with the Tigers are JAC, Marsters and Suli (I'm excluding Liddle, Mikaele and Talau for now as we really don't know what sort of careers they'll have).

That's not good over half a decade, especially for a club that depends on producing its own players. It doesn't ignore a host of solid first graders - the type of contributor every club needs - either.

In 2015 these juniors made their NRL debut for the Tigers: Delouise Hoeter, Kyle Lovett, Nathan Milone, Mainai Cherrington and Lamar Liolavave. 2016 was better (Addo-Carr and Liddle) but basically no-one else (hello JJ Felise). In 2017, we had some young signings from elsewhere (Twal, Eisenhuth) and our own juniors produced Marsters, Suli, Bayley Sironen and Jeremy Marshall-King. In 2018 we didn't debut a single club junior.

It is the quality of our juniors which we produce that provides hope for the future. Doueihi, Tatola, Papenhuyzen, Simona and Korobeite can be included as well. Add these to Woods, Tedesco, Moses, Brooks and the ones you have mentioned and we have a very competitive team.

Identification and retention need to be improved hugely. In addition, dumb decisions like getting rid of Moses only to replace him with Reynolds was an extremely poor decision. This has partly been obscured by Moses unpopularity but when you remove the emotion it was a piss poor decision.

I posted previously about chasing Frizell. I think he could be the leader that our young pack could follow and would certainly provide some experience. I’d be prepared to offer him plenty as gaining a player like him might also go a long way to helping us become the destination club that quality players want to play for.

Tyson is an Illawarra player through and through. I could not envisage that he would want to spend so much time commuting to South western Sydney when he could remain on the beautiful coast at a club comparable to ours. We should be prioritising fast backs and if in the .market for a second row forward purchased that good young player the Titans purchased from the Knights

He's a Sharks junior played centre in first grade with them I could not have imagined him going to the DragQueens at all

And still lives in Cronulla

He is a Corrimal Cougars' junior from the same club as Luke Patton. Going to the Sharks was unthinkable. At least he had the good sense to return to the Illawarra. He played Aust Schools Rugby in the centres from Illawarra Sports High.

Matulino was actually playing well for us before his injury imo, wouldn't put him in the same category as the others. Ballin should be in a category of his own, what a shocking signing that was.

Momirovski told Michael Maguire he should be good to go for day 2 (via @FOXNRL), great signs considering the nature of the injury mechanism. Hopefully more a scare than anything after heavy contact to lower leg

He is not Joey Manu but he could be, he is young enough.

You must’ve just missed my sarcasm Russ! Absolutely and entirely agree, the brain to Leilua’s braun... pretty happy that he’s to be put in cotton wool and should be our kicker for this year.

With due respect to Avo he has held the same opinion and is able to defend it but in all honesty at the bare minimum we’ve all admitted he can find the stripe with ease. A keeper for sure.

Jebuz, thought after clarifying with Russ that I believe Momi is to Wests Tigers (in comparison with Joey M) still the best attacking finisher we’ve had since EVER... he is as good as Joey Manu was at the same age without the same skill set and brash attitude Or the same bunch of Roosters players alongside to inflate his value.

My point was that comparing Rankin to Momi is more akin to comparing Rankin AND Joseph Manu! Absolutely stupid. I’ll reiterate.

He’s a gem and as good as we’ve got!
