Might be wrong about this but can't recall us having any joy out of any RU players we/ve signed over the years. Last one I recall was a Sevens guy we signed a few seasons back, played a few reserve grade games without any real distinction then went back to Rugby and represented Australia in international Rugby Sevens. Quade might be good for a short term deal but he's no spring chicken any more.

John Grant was spectacular for us.

James Grant was RU who played for Balmain in GF.

Pretty sure BalmainJnr was talking about John Grant, the RU convert (who I think was related to James Grant) who languished in reggies a few years ago. Big and fast but never got a go. Coincidentally John Grant is my best mates PT and he shares some very unflattering stories of coaching staff at that time as well as Robbie Farah.

John Grant is probably the most hyped player never to play first grade. Supporters were obsessed with him, and those damn YT highlight packages.

Quade is bwaith 2.0

Braith played almost 300 games, played for NSW and Australia, and won premierships.

Also claimed the RLW most over rated player award 5 times..4 consecutive..

Still, if you told a player making his debut he’d play for NSW and Australia, win a premiership, play nearly 300 games and get a media gig afterwards, there’d be none that turn it down. He might be a twat, but his playing record speaks for itself.

I was more or less describing what he would turn out to be for us, another Bwaith like signing.

Jordan Rapana signals NRL intentions

Happy to be home from a stint in Japanese rugby that barely began, former Canberra flyer Jordan Rapana has made his intentions of an NRL return clear.
The New Zealand Test winger, now 30, had linked with former Wallabies coach Robbie Deans at the Panasonic Wild Knights on a short-term deal.
But he didn't waste time heading home when given the all clear to return once the Top League was abandoned due to coronavirus.
"Once I knew I could leave I just wanted to get back to Canberra (to my family)," he told Fox Sports.
"As for my future, I'd still obviously love to be back in the NRL, that's my ultimate goal.
"I miss league; I only left the game for three months and miss every bit of it.
"I definitely much prefer league over union, let's just say that."
It's music to the ears of potential suitors, with Canterbury reportedly interested in stealing Rapana from under the Raiders' nose.
Rapana would be a handy replacement after the sacking of Jayden Okunbor and Corey Harawira-Naera, while they also have salary cap space freed up by Keiran Foran's long-term injury.
"I don't think many of us know what our future holds at the minute," Rapan said.
"It's crazy times, it's a crazy situation that we're in."

I'd be happy with getting Rapana on a short term contract.
Wouldn't cost too much and he already has a great combination with Leilua.

There's really no harm in buying a few lottery tickets. You know they're long shots but if they pay off they do so big time. It's not as if you're obliged to give them big contracts or put them in first grade.

I don't know ..if we are going to use the last of whatever cap space we have left you want it to be an effective 2020 signing or used to front end a 2021 contract ....wouldn't you ....

Brandon Smith has the same clause in his contract that Harry Grant does - if Cameron Smith plays on next year he can quit his contract a year early, he wants to play hooker. Would throw money at both guys if that happens.

Pretty good chance we can grab Harry Grant for a longer deal I reckon, it’s either gonna be Cameron or Brandon Smith playing hooker and it’s clear he wants to be playing first grade now. He’s already at the club and (hopefully) will be training and playing with us so he already has a foot in the door. Would be one of our best pieces of business ever

A bit like your obsession with Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon...

It will be interesting - with a disrupted season his body won't have been hit as hard. And with the ego he has i'm sure he would rather finish his career at the end of a normal season so its all about him rather than just a footnote attached to the season that never happened.

True. Same could apply to Benji too.

I agree. Even if he doesn’t Brandon will be their starting hooker and we can have a play at Harry Grant anyway. Brandon Smiths dad on facebook said Brandon loves Madge and vice versa and we came close to signing him.

It's the long preseason of training that sometimes puts off some of the older blokes. That's the first thing they usually mention that they won't miss anyway. Does Benji want to go through that all again next year is a part of the question.

With this season running late into this year there’s a very good chance the next pre season will be a shorter one. That may help convince them to go round again.

I hope not Benji has been an asset to the club but his time should be over
