Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’m a big yes for Pangai Jr. He sails close to the wind but is compulsory viewing. Would bring the second phase footy we sorely lack and joined with Packer and the Leiluas ... dare I say we could bring some intimidation for the first time in living memory.

What a shame they are only paying them $27.50, a $50 Bunnings voucher and a pie and a coke under the Cap a week..

Wow 3 million
I can’t get those players under 3million.
According to the rich list.
Boyd $780
Crichton $750
Radley $500
J Moz $300
Hargreaves $700
$3,030 alone.
Not included is D Tupou and S Verrills and
B Moz.....

Interesting.
If only the NRL could be a bit better at putting 2 and 2 together.

Some of those knobheads' wages would be massively topped up with 3rd party deals yet the NRL released not that long ago that the Roosters TPA's were a measly total of 100k or thereabouts from memory.
Something most definitely smells around the Roosters version of the salary cap.

I remember when Angus Crichton left Souths for Roosters, he was being lauded as a million dollar a year player. Now it's $750k? I'm sure when he leaves it'll be more like $400k, then opening up the million space again for a new recruit.

Agree tiger05premier i hate moses so much now and his uncle too.
So much so if it was a penrith parra grand final i have no idea who i hate more. It would be a disaster

I would be devastated if that was the grand final

Parramatta to win only to be stripped of the tittle for salary cap cheating

Wouldn't be happy with that. The best part of winning a premiership would be that rush of elation on the field at full time, the victory lap, the party for weeks afterward (for the supporters as well!).........
to be stripped of the title after getting to experience all that would be pretty much a case of 'who cares?' for the players IMO. They have already got to experience the best part.
It'd be like being able to have sex with Jessica Alba but someone telling you that it didn't count weeks afterward. You'd be "yeah right, no worries" but still have that memory in the bank and go to the grave with a smile like a split watermelon.
The Storm got off easy for their cheating, they got the memories, whereas when the Bulldogs got pinged in '02 they got the proper punishment as in no opportunity for grand final-winning lifetime memories.

Pretty sure Cordner was signed on a million per year extension. No wait it is the Rorters he is only on 250k!
Actually Crichton was touted as a million a year signing as well, why Wabbits could not hang on to him.

Yeah. Sonnys accomodation and gym equipment diet etc isn’t required to be included in the cap yet $200 worth of toys is... haha. His the ultimate distractor Uncle Nick.

Oh and the rest of the players on the rich list at the roosters.

Tedesco $1mil
Taukeiaho $680
Joseph Manu $700
Luke Keary $700
Another $3080.

That’s 6.1 mill on 9 players.
3.5mill on the remaining 21.

It is possible they are under the cap.
If you look closely at their squad they have used a total of 24 players and up until last week before debuting Daniel Fifita have played no rookies plus including Drew Hutchison who plays this weekend and considering the 2 long term injuries of Verrills and Radley, Including Billy Smith That’s 23 of 26 regulars they have used this year.
The remaining 4 have not debuted for any club and therefore being the roosters can only be on a minimum wage. Totalling $340 for the 27-30 spots (don’t forget Asu was one of these and probably also on minimum wage.)
So there are about 16 players unaccounted for with about 3.2 million cap spread among them.
Which means the following players are on average of $200k.
Tupou
B Moz
Lam
Tupouniua
Faamausili
Butcher
Collins
Ikuvalu
Fifta
Flanagan
Liu
Aubusson
Hall
Smith
Hutchinson
Jake Friend.

Does the maths check out?

And of course he has contacted the Roosters and has a great relationship with Uncle Nick.

The strong keep getting stronger.

JAC will end up at Souths, Pangai will end up at the Roosters and maybe we can get Saab across the line.

Souths want to keep AJ now as he has a great relationship with LM. This might be a script for a new soap. opera.

Widdop is good and all

But geez I would love it if we dug our fingers into the SL market a bit more

A lot of good talent there

Widdop has been a fine player but shouldn't we trust in our own young players? Madden, Camroux and Field all look good prospects.

Will Madden be ready for 2021 season? I haven’t seen enough of him to know.

This lack of lower grades is killing us.

Camroux resembles a young Moses without as much attitude. At present he'd only be eligible to play after July next year though. Madden should replace Benji once we can no longer make the finals. Absolutely no point playing Benji after that point.

Watched a few Sydney Shield & Presidents Cup games over the weekend. Decent standard without being spectacular but plenty of youngsters having a run. Even Gagai's younger bro was playing in the centres for Syd Uni and bagged a few meat pies.

Given the unusual nature of the season our club should be striking deals to loan our fringe/younger players to these clubs. I'm unsure as to our professional relationship with those teams but surely some arrangement could be made so that the players don't miss out on a whole year of development

Rizk's playing for Ryde Eastwood
https://www.playrugbyleague.com/Competitions/Match/ryde-eastwood-hawks-ss-v-cronulla-caringbah-sharks-ss-374506

Curtis Wilson on the bench too. Felix Smith playing for Campbelltown but they have the bye this week.

From last year's Jersey Flegg:

* Burey to union.

* What's happened to Mavoni?

* Where has Dillon gone?

* What about Kei? Should be in our top 30 next year.

* Stefanovic - half?

Kei would be a development player if anything. Kids not even played reserve grade.

I’m not sure you fully understand some of the talent or kids that have been recruited or have played the last 2 years or so. There seems to be a lot of “let’s go onto the next”.

Kei doesn’t need to - seen enough of him to know that he’s the real deal. I don’t think he’s a development player and yet a far better prospect in my opinion than someone like Saab.

Question is though - who’s keeping an eye on our young squad for next year? Who at board/operational level has assigned this task or is everyone just sitting on their hands waiting at home whilst on JobKeeper - blaming a slow NRL directive to NSWRL re next year squad numbers (to be reduced) and cap levels?

Nothing like being reactive rather than proactive!

How about as.a club we get on the front foot and communicate and nurture the existing talents we have?

Just my opinion but these are some of the real issues that could.be covered off even with this shocking pandemic.

Any business could work this out - we need some leadership in this area or we will just keep chasing the dream and at unnecessary cost.

I completely understand you’re point, but when he’s not been playing or training with the squad this year and has played one game of reserve grade, plus we already have a stack of young outside backs at the club Next season, putting him on a development contract next season then in the NRL squad for the two years after makes a lot more sense. By then other guys could’ve been moved on and he’s a lot more developed, not just footy wise by physically.

Unfortunately with this pandemic it is the young guys who are copping the worst of it. Don’t get to train with the NRL club, forced to a bunch of different clubs. Hopefully Hartigan is checking up on them all, I did notice a few if the young guys like Kei, Ryan Garner posted photos of themselves in the Tigers gym so they must go every so often

Interesting comments from the Warrington CEO this morning that they have zero interest in swapping Widdop for ‘that player’

Sounds like they are open to a swap, just not for Norman. Wonder how they’d feel about Josh?

Would be an upgrade 100% and can goal kick

so:

AJ to fullback, Saab and Nofo wing, Talau and BJ centres, Douhei(c)and Brooks halves...liking it

With TPJ allegedly shopping himself whislt still contracted til 2022, is that a breach? Clubs cant approach til Nov1 does that mean actual contract negotiatons and thetefore preliminary talks can occur prior to date?

Even Reynolds is better than Norman. It’s a good idea and I hope the club tries it, don’t blame Warrington for not wanting Norman

Correct, those are the rules if you're not the Roosters/Rabbitohs/Broncos/Eels.
