Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I don’t see how he isn’t our 14 he brings so much Energy when he comes on

He cant pass out of dummy half and energy is all he brings, he is not the player he was years ago and a total waste of a space in the top 30 let alone the 17.

I respect everyone's view on Benji but with limited funds i can't see we are in a position to sign a big name 6 or 7. In the absence of a signing, assuming we went with a Douehi, Mbye, Talau with Brooks, he's not exactly a bad backup on a pretty low salary, which gives us better spending options for the remaining 3 spots after only $200k for Benji
If we could pick a young half, say like Chanel Harris Tevita from the Warriors, I would feel differently about hanging on to Benji. Maybe I just answered my own question, perhaps we need to take a punt on an up and comer that doesn't cost the world

We will have our $337k cap fine to spend next year as well, Benji is part of the problem not part of the solution, we have to move on, keep him around the club in some capacity but not as a player

Yeah I had factored it in, regarding Benji, he is basically free with the veteran player allowance, pretty sure he's the only option for that

The thing with Benji is that he is low cost and therefore not the problem or anywhere near it. If he isn't the best option he won't be picked so he isn't holding anyone back.

We need to sign some quality players but it appears we have to get juniors and let them develop. An aging cheap half can slot into the team.

Anyway if Madge has a better option he will take it.

But that's just it. Benji being on a low cost salary is not the issue, us having no one better in that role is the issue.

Benji might be on a low value contract, but the bottom line we have to move on and find or develope the next Benji. You can’t rebuild a roster by rolling out half the old players

And you can't sacrifice a Cap space just for a 35 year old Benji.

Mmbye is more of a 14 than reynolds he can cover 1,3,4,6,7,9 and wing if he had to

He cannot cover wing, he got totally outclassed there a few weeks back, can't remember which game it was.

Doesn't matter if it's true. I'm sure he has the option any time another club is willing to take him.

There is no way he's going to walk away from $800k to play somewhere else. I don't blame him.

He may want an extra few years on his contract. Don’t see any NRL clubs offering him a long deal, in England he would get that and decent money too. That will be the selling point

On Reynolds, if he can get a payday in the UK and we're subsidising 200K of his contract, it's a no brainer to let him go. I love the bloke, and I wish we got to see more of him in his time here, but the club needs to stop being a benevolence society. Packer I feel we can get value out of if he continues to show the form he did in the Parramatta and Brisbane games. The elephant in the room is Mbye.

Rowdy & Benji have to finish up too. Both have been great for the club in their own ways, but it's time to move forward.

Josh could get 4 years in the UK, or 1 more year in the NRL.
Most probably on similar money, a no brainer.

Mbye covering wing is half the player Jennings is.

Did you see his efforts against North Queensland?

There are some fans on here suggesting we drop Benji for Madden! I have only seen Madden play 3 or 4 times and in my view he wasn’t anything special in any aspect of the game (including goal kicking). Putting him in the same sentence as Benji is ridiculous. I’ll be surprised if we even keep him.
On another point, our young pack might seem like they have potential, but the games we have lost disappointingly have not been because of our halves, but because our forwards have been convincingly dominated. We have no real leader in the pack, not enough guys who can actually bust tackles or get over the ad line, no genuine ball playing forwards or even guys who can consistently offload. The majority of our pack are one out, vanilla flavoured and very predictable. Until they can poke their bodies through and get a roll on down field our halves and backs will never look good no matter who we have!!

Madden's game against the Panthers in the trial was quite impressive. I thought his kicking was good, his ability to get repeats sets excellent and the way he directed the team around the field fine. For a young player he did well.

Also called play over the top of Reynolds which is important to note.

Back end of the cows game, MCK was at centre and mbye was playing wing on defence.

Not even if someone offers him 3 years 1.2m ? And he has time to sort out his post Playing career ?

Do you think that is likely to happen for a 31 year old fringe first grader with an injury history?

As far as I can tell he's not keen to go to England so what NRL club is going to offer him that?

Being as injured as he has been has probably prolonged his playing career as he hasn't taken too many beatings in recent years.

To be fair the second half of that game was pretty forgettable.

Now that's a "Jack of all trades and master of none" if I have ever seen one

Shame we missed out on Zac Lomax. Only decent St George player worth taking. Sailor did show some promise but still has a long way to go.

He’s a gun. McInnes very good too. Sailor would be a good buy

You might think that but I do not, yes he was dropped this year, but that is because there was no reserve grade, I believe he would not have been dropped if we had CC this year, he has never played reserve grade for us.
Also I do believe he is holding this club back, he is not the half to lead us to the top 8, let's just move on and look to the future.
