Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Assuming Mbye at $800k is correct, if we pay half we have $400k available. Will we get a better player than Mbye for that $400k? Maybe, but you'd want to be sure and have something lined up ready to roll

Having an extra $400k could be the difference towards signing a goal kicker, good half or any other marquee signing

Unless they spend that $400k on a real dud, it’s worth it. Having $800k tied up on Mbye for another two years is really bad.

Warriors have signed Aitkens and Kane Evans in the last 2 days...

2 players who would easily make our side. So it’s not as if there isn’t any half decent players on the market

Can’t say I rate either of them to be honest. Whatever winger plays outside Aitken will score 2 tries all season. Evans maybe could’ve gone okay here but it doesn’t seem like we’re too focused on props at the moment unless they’re a big name

Fox article says using the money to retain Harry grant or if he leaves Brandon smith.

Probably just a stab in the dark from fox

Brandon Smith would be amazing. Throws himself at absolutely everything on the field and is a quality dummy half.

Personally think Aitkens is an awesome running centre unfortunately he’s been McGregor-fied. He’s a deceptively strong one on one defender aswell and think he’d flourish under some proper coaching

Is he worth 400k as a 1 or 6? Potentially, but it seems like we won’t play him there.

I still think we should try him in the halves now, he can't be worse than what we are offering up on a weekly basis

People getting excited about paying half of Mbyes salary to play elsewhere need to realise that we need to buy a more effective player than him for $400K otherwise we are in the same or worse position.

Its possible but not a sure thing.

Paying half Mbyes contract is smart business. He has talent and it’s worth the risk for the Gold Coast and could be a good utility for 400k.
For us freeing up 400km and a roster spot is smart as this team is not making finals in its current state.

Bigger win would be offloading Reynolds at full freight to Super League.

Word is Broncos May struggle to sack TPJ we should do a deal and get him Broncos chip in 100k and pick him up for 550k per season.

Sending unwanted players to super league is good because normally you don’t have to pay part of their contracts

The days of big money in the UK are over. Salary cap is only AUD$3.3M. You can overspend on two marquees.

Normally you don’t pay your guys to go there is what I’m saying

We would have to pay our guys to go there. They are entitled to their contract money and no one in the UK is going to pay it

One club over there would pay at least a good majority of his contract. He’s be man of steel in England ?

I don’t see super league move happening 6 players from one team tested positive for Covid.
The league will be in crisis and doubt a player in this climate would want to go there he will collect his last year of a monster contract here.

Aitken has some good qualities but he does not know how to pass. Good running game for sure but is a huge ball hog and defensively a little iffy.

In the right team he can go well, but if you want your wingers seeing a lot of good ball (which warriors do) then he’s not your man.

According to the forum he’s the worst player on planet earth so that shouldn’t be hard 😂

In all seriousness I don’t see a negative towards letting him go to titans. Even if that money is split up to keep some of our current boys or sign a young guy it’s worth it. Best case scenario it goes towards a top level player.

He seems to love them. Didn’t he take a pay cut to stay there?

If that $400K is split up to increase other salaries, you still need to sign a new player to the roster which in minimum is still around $100K. I cant see how it significantly strengthens our roster or relieves cap pressure.

The other thing that’s not being mentioned is the possibility that we still have cap space this year.
That 2 year 800k-900k salary could have been able to have been front loaded a couple of hundred grand by now.
I doubt Asu would have costed us much this year as a mid season signing.
Going off the Sonny Bill Theory even if we valued his season contract at 200k we would be paying him about 75k for the remaining games.
I’m sure we would of had a lot more than that sitting in the kitty...

Yep, seems to be things happening out there... hope we haven’t fallen asleep at the wheel.

Madge will be happy to sign another young fella if he needs to.

Not having $850k a season tied up in Mbye for another two seasons is a massive win. He’s not worth that at all, to free up half of that to use however you want just makes sense.

How the money is used will determine just how good a deal it is, but for me it will be a win for us either way. He’s not an integral part of our team, we have Momirovski back next year who can play centre. The money should be used for a hooker if we are smart.

We would have $400-450K wrapped up in Mbye for another two seasons. You are not signing a good hooker for $400K

The Panthers are paying two of Parramattas best players 400k each...
One replaced by a young gun who they figure they’ll fix him up with a big contract in the long run.
The other moved on since they felt he didn’t offer enough for the 800k contract they signed him to 2 years back.

Mbye leaving is smart if we get a top hooker in his place. Also holding up talau’s place in the centres and Asu on the wing next year.

Lot of upside to moving him along.

Reynolds is similar if we sign a half

How different will WT'S look 2021 IF
MBYE GOES
JREY GOES
BENJI GOES
MCQUEEN GONE
ET GONE

Sort of but say we wear half of Mbye & JRey we have around $1.8m for 5 slots so it doesn't scream big signings

Uh huh.........and who are our "young guns" that will fill the breach to semi final standard?
