Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We currently have 21 for 2021 being Aloia, Blore, Brooks, Chee Kam, Douehi, Garner, Kepao, BJ Leilua, L Leilua, Liddle, Mbye, Mikaele, Momo, Musgrove, Nofo, Packer, Reynolds, Talau, Twal, Walters, Uto

Estimated at $8.2m leaving $1.7m for 9 players (2021 Cap is $9.9m, no penalty anymore)

Assume at least 3 development players at $115k each and McIntyre upgraded to $200k and we’re at $1.2m left for 5 players
Get Benji for FREE with the veteran allowance and it’s still $1.2m for 4 players
Assume further that any saving on the 2020 cap (est. $500k) was used to bring forward future dollars and it could potentially be as much as $1.7m for 4 players
I’d take Eiso for $200k, then it’s $1.5m for 3 players

Mbye or JRey leave with us paying half and it’s an extra $0.4m each
Let’s assume we offload one and we have $1.9m for 4 players

It’s not far off Teddy23 numbers above so you get an idea of what we could go for

Teddy23 suggested the following and I don’t mind any of them but maybe I’d prefer Welch’s stability over TPJs rollercoaster
• JAC (500k)
• Kyle Flanagan (500k) OR CHT
• Panga Jr (650 k) OR Christian Welch
• Brandon Smith (if grant goes back) (600k) OR Harry

You do realise that Benji takes up a precious spot in the squad regardless of what you pay him?His days are gone i would rather see a young bloke given an opportunity to develop.Think of the present and future not the past

Payne Haas is ona 6 year deal for $3m until the end of 2024
Imagine what he'd earn if he came on the market with all the Broncos woes at the moment

Mmbye for half the salary is ok 400k and a good puck up for titans at 400k
Agree Reynolds should be shopped to SL if we can pull that one off and move on benji and Lawrence and Jennings we have money to burn.
We will need to kill a whale though and buy someone on overs to come here and others follow.
i am thinking Munster is the man to throw the world at.
Hopefully if we keep grant awesome if we dont go after Brandon smith

Yep, I can work that out but if it's someone else you have to pay something which impacts how much you have to spend on the more needed spots, plus whilst he may not be a 26 game player, in spurts he'd be a great backup IMO

$1.7 million for next season seems incredibly generous.

Seyfarth, Clark, Taylor, Smith and Jenninga wouldn’t be on much coin each. The 4 development guys joining the top 30 next season would probably be on the same as Seyfarth and Smith at the very least. McQueen is the only guy leaving who’s on decent money.

If McIntyre and Eiso are extended I would expect them to be on around $250-$300k each. We will have some cap space - but no where near $1.7million. Probably more around a million or less. Some guys may earn more this year compared to last year as well.

TPJ is going to be SACKED by broncos apparently - maybe he will get his move to roosters after all.

He’s an idiot on and off the field this bloke. At his best a great player, but has a pea brain.

I’d sign him in a heart beat. Madge type player.
Throw him in with Aloai, Blore, Utoikamanu, Luciano, Mikalele and you have one brutal forward pack. Throw in Brandon Smith as well.

Imo @TYGA Aloai and Mikalele have shown this year they are no more than good quality 'plodders'.

Disagree. Aloai has been strong most of this year. Mikalele hasn’t come on enough but still young.

Not liking our chances of pulling that off on a few levels, but that would be a huge win for us, and should see us playing finals footy next year and for a quite few years after

The way I see it, all 4 of those players are on the market and likely options

JAC - Sydney Team only seems to be between us or Rabbits... we have a good relationship with Melbourne along with being in a better position to make a deal as ultimately storm decides where he goes, JAC has a good relationship with the players - recently said his fav ground to play at was Leichardt Oval... fav team Wests Tigers... fav player Benji Marshall and Brett Hodgson (two players who will be on the coaching staff) so he wouldn’t be against coming to us as THE POM also confirmed and the rabbits seem to be struggling with there cap they can’t even retain AJ after signing that teenager on a rich deal I think we have the edge there if we pursue - offering Momo and Huth would be attractive to Melbourne

Pangai Jr - basically a free agent... Roosters just came out and said they’re out, it’s either the Bulldogs and the Warriors as reports indicate - I know our club isn’t in the best position currently but we can sell a better image to Pangai than the shambles that are the Bulldogs and him going to New Zealand... I’ve read Manly might be keen but surely there’s no chance they have any money with DCE (highest paid player in the NRL), both Jake and Tom getting new big money contracts and then Taupau and AFB on good coin plus Dylan Walker there’s no way

Flanagan - has been dropped 2 weeks in a row... Sam Walker will take his spot very soon - he won’t be there long term and if approached would mostly likely be released a year early as technically we can approach him legally in November - maybe the Dragons might want him cause of his dad, however they’re pretty stacked in the halves paying huge money to Hunt and Norman with Clune there too who’s showing good signs tbh - we’d be able to offer more money and more chance to play first grade which would be attractive to him

Brandon Smith or maybe Harry Grant (most likely Smith) - Regardless to if C Smith retires or stays he wants out if he’s not the 9 which is widely obvious... Smith retires let’s say, then the Storm have the choice of Grant or B Smith in which most likely they’d pick Grant.... however, if C Smith stays than Grant could trigger his clause and we get him or he goes back anyways to play on the bench for another season and we can still get B smith regardless - only way Smith stays is if C Smith retires but then the Storm pick him over Grant something I doubt would happen - he wants the 9 position so he can play 9 for NZ, who’s our coach... the NZ head coach along with half our players being of NZ heritage, it seems like Madge really rates him as he’s talked about him prior and B Smith seems like a real Madge player also so would be silly to think we aren’t going hard for either two players

If we can get two players that are rumoured to be possibly available it would have to be Brandon Smith and Josh Addo Carr. Pangai would be next in line. I get the issues around character but Madge can get people fit and in line we need talent.

Not sure about Flanagan. Not sure he’s the game managing control halfback we need, not to say he’s a bad player but doesn’t seem to have the management skills necessary

When ET did re-sign, he was killing it - probs on like 400k same as McQueen

$1.7m has some logic behind it, its not plucked out of mid air, I’ve been following the dollars as closely as you can for a number of years

Development players cancel each other out whether the names change or not

Taylor, McQueen & Jennings are on $400k, $400k & $350k respectively

Eiso is unlikely to be in huge demand and McIntyre is on $115k this year so I’d imagine they’d build his increases over a couple of years, $200k is a fair lift for a guy with a handful of games so far

I could of course be wrong on my numbers, we all could but I reckon I’m thereabouts

Agree, not on the bench

Interesting that Lam is staying at the Roosters for 2 more years. The timing is interesting but realistically Walker will be the 7, Lam can come off the interchange and Flanagan will go where dad lands.

I think it would only cause my arguements because clubs/supporters would be saying we tried to sign player X for 800k but he signed to play for the rorters for only 270k
