Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

JAC is a very good player and at 25 years old is in his prime. If we can offer him an upgraded contract as a winger with an guaranteed upgrade in 2022 if he plays 13 games ~~on the wing~~ at fullback in 2021, it may suit him and remove the risk for the Tigers.
If we can get Charlie Staines and have them competing for fullback that would be even better.

Edit: fixed error

So to that I would not hesitate with a swap deal with Melbourne for JAC

If it were a straight swap (ie all other things equal) then one would take it. But it's not a straight swap deal is it ?

First , we will have to pay JAC "overs" to come here, possibly significant overs. Normally I object to paying overs, but in the case of exceptional players I think it can be justified.

But the club is reportedly being asked to "pay" more than marquee money for JAC, we have to give up a talented junior who is currently on minimal money.

To pay marquee money to JAC is a risk; however, giving up Talau as part of the deal compounds the risk.

For me this is unacceptable. The price of the deal is too high.

I was keen on signing JAC as a winger because it solved a problem we have on the left wing and brought some pace.

However, signing him to play fullback doesn't make a lot of sense because fullback is far from our biggest issue.

There are a lot of question marks around him at fullback, noticed he was gassed a few times last night and that's on the wing. I believe best case scenario for him at fullback is he'd be a faster version of Corey Thompson. Not sure Doueihi at 6 would work either.

I'd only want him here as a winger.

Well IMO Talau at this stage is ok , I am not really seeing what many others are ! Some of the talk here is a bit over hyped in that regard .. So to that I would not hesitate with a swap deal with Melbourne for JAC .. is **Talau a good prospect yes but that’s the problem in Tiger town all potential , signing up a couple of experienced and proven players is critical at this stage if some potential needs to be sacrificed so be it** !

Proven experienced players you say? I present Russell Packer, Josh Reynolds, Chris McQueen. Ben Matulino and Moses Mbye. Three Origin players right there. I want JAC as much as the next bloke, but you don't give away one of your most promising players, you find someone else.
The Panthers are living proof of what can be achieved by building from within. I think the Pom stated somewhere that the Storms request for a player they want was not acceptable to us and i think there is a fair chance that would be Talau.

Good to see players investing their $s wisely.

Yeah, not a bad effort. Good on him.

How about Jennings and Packer for Cedric, or JAC, we could even add McQueen to sweet the deal!😁

Considering that we signed AD on $600k , JAC has got to be worth that? Right?
No .
I understand that an origin and test player has a price tag increase, but not exactly sure what it is?
I think Staines is asking $300k and he is a fullback who has played a game at 4 and a game at wing with a tally of 6 tries.

We can’t just wait for JAC to come off contract in 2022. By then all the big clubs will chase him and we won’t stand a chance, this is one of the few times we are actually a shot at signing an origin level player we have to at least try

By all accounts we are trying.

Last night his performance did not do him any favors - very ordinary, you would not know he had played origin on that.

He is a winger that would make a pathetic FB in my opinion. After last night my price for him dropped to 500k.

Take it or leave it, would be my attitude. If no continue to chase Johnston, Staines or persist with what we have.

I agree but we can’t give up a talented kid on a cheap contract who in my view will become a 10 year starting player. We have mismanaged the cap it will come back to bite us. How many times do Melbourne get recruitment wrong. Past history we sign Adam Blair they end up with Korobiete, JAC and Papynhuyzen.

We desperately need an origin level player in our team. We need pace and a match winner, in a perfect world I would want to keep Talau but if that’s the only way to get JAC you have to do it. It’s not like JAC is a risk to sign

As I said before - what makes YOU think Talau would consider going to Melbourne?????

I feel Charlie Staines $1m for three years at fullback is a better fullback bet than JAC for double that, but I'd happily have JAC in the team on the wing

It's interesting with Staines, is he worth risking a longer term deal? If we did 3 years he'd potentially hit the market as a 23 year old fullback with 60 odd first grade games under his belt

Maybe you could structure 5 years worst case $1.5m with potential to kick to $2m+ if certain things happen (no of first grade games, rep honours, etc). Then you can renegotiate and extend in year 4 or so, and ensure you don't lose him

maybe 3 years with a further option of 2 years with conditions for both sides

NO!

I'd think hard about maybe trading Brooks but none of the others. And, I still want Momorovski back.

I'd trade Tommy T or Nofo in a heartbeat for JAC. They can keep Momirovski.

I would trade nobody.

If we want him to play FB - we will have to pay far too much anyway, let alone adding a top junior.

He would not be worth half that. Rather have Johnston, or maybe Staines, if we are desperate for a FB.

I don't think we are, I think we already have one, so we are only looking for a winger with speed.

JAC does not have anything else to offer. 500k should be more than enough - if not, we do to him what he did to us. See ya!

You said the other day you'd pay $650k for JAC.

So, Nofo for JAC, they keep Momo and you pay JAC FB money. Talk about sell your soul.

We need a 5/8, move Doueihi there and add genuine pace at the back, solves two major issues.

Why would Bellamy want Talau ? He obviously sees something in him. Talau was a melbourne fan growing up, billy slater was has favourite player growing up. So he might consider it.
