I would go after Staines and Burton instead of JAC! Both are really solid players and can goal kick! Staines is super fast, a big body can play anywhere in the backline and a genuine tryscorer!

Burton has that class, got a great pass, defensively very strong. And forces a lot of dropouts, something we have lacked for years!

Then use more money on a player like Christian Welch instead of JAC! Welch is a deadset GUN, I believe he’s the best fwd in QLD! Super reliable, tough as team, great offload, will take on anyone, no fear no hesitation

100% with this.
JAC is not a fullback and it’s his new manager who is pushing this line. We have other priorities for next year and need to sign players with a winning attitude and leadership qualities in our key positions which are lacking ..... half 5/8, fullback, prop and/or back row.

Welch is a good player ...but if Qld's best forward running around in the NRL isn't Josh Papalii ......i'm not here

I know it all seems like Doom at the moment but I think we need to appreciate what the club is doing considering what salary cap problems we have. In the past we have been focusing on trying to buy old players on big money E.g. Reynolds, Packer, etc .
Now we are investing into youth and not just our youth , we are getting them from all over the place E,g, Blore, Simpkins, Hoffman, Anu, Stefo, etc.. Also looks like the club is putting a lot of focus on our juniors in the local area and locking them up before other clubs poach.
Its very smart as they are not big money investments straight away and if they turn out well, we will have the money to keep them.
Once we finally get JR, Moses, Packer of the books we can start putting that kind of money on real top line players that will build nicely with the juniors we have.

I truly believe Madge is the right coach for us moving forward and we should only be judging him once we turn over these high priced duds that he DIDN"T buy..

Don't forget to get rid of Mbye as well.

JAC won’t solve our on field problems instantly but he’s a quality player and it would be our first big name signing in forever (can’t remember the last time we signed a current origin player) and it shows other big name players that we are a club you can come to.

He’s also a very hard worker and a great fella players love to play with. We still need to upgrade our halves but it would be great to see us actually picking up a top quality player

Souffs will wangle paying him 350k and finding a spot so he can go
and play with his mate Latrine. I think this will be LM all over again.

I'm certainly not getting my hopes up that we'll get him, things have a way of falling apart whenever a big name is linked to us. I'd be extremely surprised if Souths went for him though, there is no way they have the money and they already have too much invested in their backline.

Something interesting I heard today...JAC's new manager is allegedly organising his own third party deals, thereby possibly reducing any potential club's salary cap outlay. Novel way of making your player affordable for more clubs.
Also a novel way of getting him into a club seemingly close to their cap limit.

lol All non Club affiliated TPA are between a player and the 3rd Party..that's what a good manager should be doing..not as an inducement to play with Club X..

Before anybody is signed we need to announce an extension for Maguire as players who we want need to know who they are being coached by and stability. The signing of JAC will not solve all our problems but the message it would send to potential players that we can attract a current SOO and Australian test player still in his prime. These two things along with some offloads and Marshalls retirement will go a long way to put us in the right direction and give us creditability. Staines would be another target.Given lack of choices Hastings could be a consideration.

I don’t think an extension is necessarily wanted. I could be wrong but I haven’t seen the positive changes many others have. Looked to be going well mid season but since then it’s all fallen apart. I know we don’t have the cattle but the attitude has changed, which is a worry.

Additionally, even if offered an extension who’s to say he’d go for it? I’m not sure he would.

What message would it then send if Maguire leaves and we are onto another coach. Sick of hearing rebuild to be honest No surprise that Easts, Melbourne and Broncos Bennett era had long term coaches and sustained success. Players are attracted to these clubs.

Doesn’t Maguire’s contract ends next year?
Come November we are chasing players for when his contract runs out (yes and some for next year)
How can we get out of a rebuild cycle if we keep changing coaches the year we want players to start? Surely they want to know the coach?
Sign him up for 2 years, announce next years players. Sign up the following years players.

What if we offer him another 2 years and he says no?

at least our signings would know who the coach is and the coach can recruit who they want. Same solution, different coach.

lets face it the current mob couldn't perform worse if they knew the coach was dropping them

Sounds good to me. Young prop who bends the line, wouldn’t cost much and Warriors will throw in for him next year.

He’s not a high work rate guy though. We do need a few guys who can run over 100m a game consistently. We miss that at the moment.

Twal and Aloiai can do it for sure start them in the front row. Stefano has a big motor too. He could easily transform into that kind of prop too, he’s very young. Would improve our pack for sure I reckon.

If we need another work horse prop we can go for one in 2022 but right now we seem to lack punch off the bench
