what to do with veteran favourite son Benj Marshall, who is off contract but has a deal on the table.

lol

If this is true Madge is definitely not the coach to get us out of this hole.
Benji has absolutely nothing to gain from not announcing his retirement, he could get a proper send off, he wants to play again no risk.

I think he's trying to stroke his ego with 1 more season. Gunning for the most capped player no.1 spot.
1 more season would do it :joy: :joy: :grimacing: :grimacing:

**Most first grade matches for Wests Tigers**:

Robbie Farah - 277
Benji Marshall - 252
Chris Lawrence - 250
Chris Heighington - 201
John Skandalis - 185
Dene Halatau - 180
Keith Galloway - 173
Liam Fulton - 162
Bryce Gibbs - 155
Todd Payten - 151
Ben Galea - 150

That list is pretty impressive with players and most won the 2005 premiership, long term stable team does wonders with playing finals.
Hopefully Benji realizes that his best playing days are over but i can understand this fact he is on much less $ than most to help our cap and might think the Tigers are obligated to give hom another year.

***Rowdy was also on peanuts, he left with dignity***, and he is a one club legend, we owe Benji nothing

After he ran to the media to get another contract. Something Benji hasn’t done.

Went to Weidler a week before that big sharks game complaining about pay and not getting a contract. I love Rowdy but that made me lose some respect for him.

that would have been his manager - he probably didn't know about it. managers are the biggest grubs around

At least Mbye is owning it.

He can do nothing else.

As bigger bludger as Jennings.

Imagine how mad everyone would be if he acted like he’s a great player and does nothing wrong? He’s holding himself accountable like Madge wants and is working on it. Doesn’t mean he’s ever gonna come good he’s an average player but at least he can own it.

Better than Reynolds who laughs about articles of him being overpaid on Twitter when he’s been average as well

Maybe he is average -but at least when he plays he gives 100%.

Benji is trying for another contract no risk, he shouldn't have got one this year, his form is abysmal, look at the effort he put in his 250th game, he should have been dropped after that, but here we are 3 weeks later and he still makes the team

If he’s going to keep getting picked, why not keep playing. Whose the bigger idiot, him or the coach picking him?

The coach.

Nice to see Harry Grant back. Liddle is good but Grant is next level! Would honestly pay him anything to stay a WT. So tough, literally in everything in attack and D. Make him captain and the face of the ? for the next 10 years. Once in a generation dummy half! He will change this club forever if he stays ????

Yep! Completely different team with him.
Grant plays to win, puts his body on the line every game.he had us playing pretty good at one stage this year.
The thought of him at The Storm is scary ?

The storm are losing a lot of players next year....I know everybody always says don't write them off but they are losing Welch, C Smith, Vunivalu, addo carr, Fa'asuamaleaui...that side will look a lot different next year.

Still be stupidly competitive but how is Grant going to go if they start turning the losses over? Or Bellamy puts B Smith as his starting hooker? Is he going to want to stay past next year?

I’d love to see the storm start losing consistently.
But yeah that’s a good point,he might start to over play his hand.
Maybe I think way too much of him.i thought B Smith was Unstoppable, but he definitely showed some chinks in his armour last week against the Eels

I guess would he rather be somewhere different to start his own legacy, or does he want to be one of the hookers living in C Smith's shadow.....same thought for B Smith...

Yeah. Real dignified

Disappointing, sure, but the guy bled the club. Took a paycut to help the club out of a cap mess. Benji turned up on TV while still contracted to us not only wearing another teams jersey, another codes jersey.

Lets just forget that, doesn't suit the lovable club legend mantra

You just need to be patient mate ....
He can’t play forever ?

It is like driving your car with the handbrake on having Benji in the team, and we don’t have a big enough engine to keep doing it

Moley has posted to 4 Wests Tigers groups on facebook sitting back with his box of popcorn

what to do with veteran favourite son Benj Marshall, who is off contract but has a deal on the table.

I blame Madge 100%, but Benji should have enough pride in his performance to retire

JT would have tapped him on the shoulder

Any coach with half a brain would have by now, I am seriously questioning Madge now

If the only thing that happens this year is seeing the end of Benji nothing will change in regard to our place in the comp unless Brooks suddenly finds whatever it is he needs to become the player we are all sick of waiting for.
The real issue is the volume of cap space taken up by three players who are our highest earners and offer very little. Can't big good for morale and is the most skewed cap situation in the competitiion.

Benji needs to go but our problems run much deeper. Yes we have a bunch of money tied up in Mbye, Reynolds and Packer but our attitude and style of play has regressed something awful. Can you think of an NRL teams attack that is as boring and one dimensional as ours?

Our attack and especially our right side of BJ and Nofa were going great with Grub at 6, BJ was poor before Grub came in the team, and after he was out of the team.
The only time he has looked any good this year was when Grub was giving him early ball, our attack was also fine back then, it is not rocket science to work out where it went of the rails.

It was only against poor defensive teams though. Against decent teams Reynolds looked awful. He's as bad as Marshall imo.

I don't know about that. We gave the Panthers a good run for their money, although that's when it all fell apart for those two loons.

You will not have to wait that long Bellamy will move on and do not think that Smiths leaving will not have an effect there ...I predict there is going to be a very large void in that club when he goes which will never be filled on or off the paddock !

It’s going to be strange.
Such big shoes to fill .Smith and Bellamy, I can’t imagine that club without them

Since we are talking about the storm for no apparent reason....Someone please post the picture of the bloke at Leichhardt with the celery taped to his hat. I can't find it anywhere.

Went to Weidler a week before that big sharks game complaining about pay and not getting a contract. I love Rowdy but that made me lose some respect for him.

Tigers Break Finals Drought
28th August 2039
Daily Telegraph
Josh Coleman

He may be injured, but 54 year old Marshall still led by example, sitting on the bench throughout the Tiger's stirring come from behind win against a gutsy Raiders outfit.

Wests were eventually victorious, overcoming a 1-0 half time deficit to record a 2-1 victory against a 9-man Canberra side who were decimated by injury and controversial send-offs to 4 players.

After missing 6 penalties, fellow veteran and goal kicker Moses Mbye credited Marshall for the victory. "He came up to the sideline before the kick and just 'you can do it Mate, prove the doubters wrong'. I knew I couldn't miss then."

The Tigers are the first team to benefit from the NRL's controversial new finals system where 9 teams play it out in September.

Looks good to me ?
