Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I don’t see how people see James as a plodder he is captain of the team winning the comp haha how people don’t see this as a good thing for the tigers is beyond me

The age was the concern for me. If it's 2 years then that mitigates the risk to an extent. At least he produces good metres, is a good defender and will be a good leader for our otherwise very inexperienced pack. Something Packer should have been but he's too much of a drongo.

The club has just signed another over the hill plodder to the Weststigers pension fund .. and some wonder why there is never any success!

Captain and starting prop with the minor premiers is an over the hill plodder?

I think the lack of success is messing with people's minds.

Any idea of the $$ on the cards for his deal? $$ and length of deal has a huge impact plodderism.

Its a bit sad really when we get excited over the signing of a guy like Tamou. He is OK - but that's it. He's not in the same league as a JWH or a Nelson A.
But he is a solid first grader I guess, so its a start.
If we can snag another of the fellows being mentioned - JAC, Staines etc - it will certainly give us a bit of a lift before the start of next season.
Do you reckon Storm or Roosters supporters would get excited over the prospect of signing Tamou?
Such is the life of a Tigers supporter.

Considering The POM posts, could it come down to choosing between Eisenhuth or Hetherington for one roster spot...?

From what was posted earlier, Eisenhuth has been advised to look after himself first ie not wait for an offer from the Club which may not eventuate.

Good all a little bit to late by Eisenhuth time to move him on.

Could be worse in years gone by we would be signing Whare and Adam Blair instead. If we pull these signing off we will have turned the corner recruitment wise.

If Storm lost Jessie Bromich or Roosters lost JWH they would both be excited to sign Tamou. The Tigers have identified a lack of on field leadership and are trying to fix it.

Yeah I’m fine with Tamou ..... he ticks all the boxes for me as far as our leadership and front row short term needs are concerned.
If it comes off it will be good signing.

Good (not Great) to have him here but he isnt critical as our pack is building...

I hope were not paying overs again.....

Huth is too similar to James for me. Not sure we need heaps of slow props. I like the Huth but think he should try move.

I think James would increase our forward pack from poor (2020) to OK (2021). Hopefully 2022 get a weapon to then be 'strong'

The idea is Tamou isn't going to be a player to get us a premiership but a player who's value is more in the process of winning a premiership.

Our forwards are all very young, he will provide leadership for 2 years, after those 2 years the likes of Twal and Aloiai will be heading into their peak seasons. The young forwards of Blore and Utoikamanu will have also progressed (hopefully) to where Aloiai and Twal are currently at now. Once Tamou retires we then use his money to sign the next up and coming young forward. What this means is we now have a blend of seasoned forwards + experienced youth + young upcommers

So yes he is no superstar signing and won't be a revelation but its all part of a process to get the right balance in a successful team.

Huth has a bit of a pass on him.

Magde put it away for most of his tenure but its coming out again. if he stays possibly move him to lock (or bench rotation to cover middles) and use his ball playing ability.

He's defensively sound.

Well said Vinnie, that does seem to be the strategy and I think it's a sound one (especially on a 2 year contract).

I would be satisfied if the Pom mentioned come off.
Tamou is solid, experience front rower that will also cover our lack of forwards leadership issue.
With Jack Hetherington we have energy and aggression in the forwards which we badly need.
JAC brings our back line obvious experience and speed no matter what position he occupies.
Charley Stains is young, fast multi skilled player who could prove a handy acquisition.

Agreed.

Wouldn't care if Hetherington is suspended every second game, he wouldnt demand huge coin and would strike some fear in opposition. When was the last time a tiger forward has done that? Taupau?

I don't know how we sign all 4 given our cap for next year but we would have a very competitive roster if we managed to get them all.

Little by little.

If it's for two years, I am OK with it. He is a consistent performer and seasoned veteran. Need a forward leader to bring the young fellas along. Averaging 42 minutes a game for 13 runs @ 145m and 27 tackles. He's only missed 6 tackles all season.

They are good numbers which no one else in our pack replicates on a weekly basis with the exception of Aloiai who averages 140m & 29 tackles in 50 minutes.

If by some miracle we manage to offload Packer, that is an enormous trade up.

I agree. If all four come off, that is a pretty good recruitment effort given what is available at the end of this season.

Tamou sures up the pack with another consistent performer, Hetherington adds a bit of mongrel to complement them.

JAC speaks for himself and Staines has shown enough to suggest he'll be a quality first grader.

This will introduce some depth and competition in the forwards and backs, the only issue will be our halves.

Based off the poms comments, surely staines is only available if we offload JR or Packer?

If we have ~1 Million. 500k going to jac 400k to tamou + needs to at least make the 30 cap with min wage been 105k.

Can't see where the money for staines or hetherington is going to come from
