It was straight after he sprinted 50 metres to try and save the try in the corner. Looked to me as soon as he was in the clear he didn't have an sprint in him. Still concerning though.

Mamo would not have been caught. That's for sure, I was very disheartened by him being caught. I was also SHOCKED when fine was caught by Taylor. Embarrassment.

Mamo a skirt? Have you seen the kid play? He's arguably the best winger coming through…

Give it 5 or 6 rounds and old man Gidley will be clinging with all he's got to keep Mamo out. Gidley captained NSW a couple yrs ago without even warranting a place in the side, it might happen at his club too.

Simona has an injury issue(I hope so anyway). Watch how he runs - his hamstrings are so tight it has impacted his running style and speed….

Late last year we saw him lose his pace and he had that same constrained running style we saw during the nines when he was run down.

I'm concerned that Simona is injured, as he sure has lost ALOT of speed...also, Fine, many were touting how fast he is, well he must've left his speed shoes in Sydney, 'cause he was running with lead shoes at the nines....so slow for a back..

Mamo has been terrific for the last 18 months, hardly the flavor of the month
I thought he was ahead of mata'utia as did a lot of others.
I'm sure I'd find room for them both if I was stone.
McManus would miss out and gidley in the halves or hooker

Huh, I've never seen anyone ever claim that Fine was fast. You must be thinking of a different player. He's always been a steady and unspectacular player. Solid in defence, quite a powerful runner, capable of playing second row, but speed has never been his thing.

He's basically the same as Halatau was around 10 years ago. A centre, more likely to play back row later in his career, with powerful leg drive.

I'd have him above Lawrence on performance at the moment. better defensively, more threatening in attack.

Simona was one of our few express players. We need him at 100% pace for the NRL season proper. We can't afford to lose any more speed.

The other thing is the mentality of a player being chased. Some players run full-tilt regardless of the chase, and sometimes that is the difference to beat the diving defender.

Simona knew he was pegged about half-way into that sprint, he almost gave up. Like some have said, he was probably gassed and knew he didn't have the legs, but frankly I see in him now a little of the aging Benji: once they stop backing themselves in a sprint, they throttle down early from a full-tilt chase.

simona is 23, what are you on about?

at that age benji was winning league world cups before building up to a 4 nations win, golden boot and 2 top 4 finishes within the following 3-4 years

I'm not comparing ages, I am saying that some players start to lose their speed, for whatever reason (injury, age, weight), and they lose confidence in a sprint. My feeling is that Simona is less effective in open space than he used to be.

Lawrence is only 26 and he has been written off as a slowpoke for several seasons now.
