Nothing wrong with Liddle's speed or passing game, which is excellent.

he has lost a bit of speed

but thats only due to his injury, which im sure in due time will properly heal and his speed will return

If the injury hadn't healed he wouldn't be on the field, you don't rush players back from an ACL for the sake of it.

I think a lot of people have forgotten what a great player Liddle is, personally I think he has more to offer the club then Grant it’s just unfortunate for Jacob injuries have held him back.

Can't agree, Liddle is very good but harry will be a generational player
Liddle may develop into a great player but if u had any chance to nab Harry you would.

I think he's lost speed as he's bulked up. Very hard to put on 10kg of muscle and run at the same speed

Your obviously one of the few that have forgotten. But hey, your entitled to your opinion.

Maguire when interviewed said he was faster!

Have you ever watched top sprinters ? They put on a tonne of muscle probably via special chemists to improve their speed.

I think Simpkins 2021 playing time will ultimately come down to what happens with Grant.

(hypothetically speaking) if we somehow have the opportunity to sign Grant we should be taking it and running with Grant at 9 and Liddle 14 next season. This would ultimately mean Simpkin would be a back up or released (possible swap?). Yes I know hes considered an amazing prospect but Grant will be the an origin and international player and I have no doubt he could play at those levels right now- we need to build a club around someone like him rather than give time to prospects that could be be just as good in 2-3 years time.

If of course Grant does go back then I would expect to see the Liddle/Simpkin rotation next year - a lot of attacking power but we will definitely miss Grant's game smarts and defense.

Now if Cameron Smith could hurry up and make a decision.... I have a theory he and the club know he will play on but with Grant/Brandon's situation he is holding off as long as possible so other clubs spend their cap space and can't snap them up. Surely with just two rounds remaining if you were retiring as the games greatest ever player you would have something set up as a farewell by now?

When Simpkin is ready for the top grade, going by all reports,it will be something sensational to see him and Jacob in the top 17 and killing it..
It will be nice to want to look forward to watching our team making the finals and being a huge threat at another premiership or 2...

Do you really think Jacob will kill it in first grade? If he fills out more and can stay injury-free he *may* have a chance. For now I don't think he's quite fast enough or a good enough passer.

You just listed his two best attributes as not good enough. He’s the fastest bloke at the club and his passing has been crisp, if anything his defence and kicking needs work.

Glad I've got his skills covered. But my response was to whether he'd kill it in first grade, not what his strengths are or how he measures up amongst his teammates.

He's what over 90kgs now and his passing from dh gets our forwards moving forward. He's also very quick,

But is he going to kill it in first grade? That was the question I was posing. We have a 9 who is killing it in first grade already so I'm comparing Liddle to him.

Have any of our players like Simpkins been able to play any park football this year or just the training paddocks but

Little to none... I guess every team is in the same boat, will be interesting to see how the juniors handle NRL next year once everything picks back up again. On the other hand a year off could be seen as good opportunity to get their bodies right without any game injuries.

As Wests Tigers prepare for an immediate future without Harry Grant, coach Michael Maguire is bullish about the club’s next hooker – and they pinched him from under Broncos noses.

Grant has been a revelation during his time at Concord and was leading the Dally M leader board before it went behind closed doors after round 10.

But with a return to the Storm imminent as he honours his contract through to 2022, Wests have been forced to find a replacement – and it comes in the form of Jake Simpkin.

The 18-year-old from Toowoomba represented Queensland in the U18 State of Origin last year and was a key player for St Mary’s Toowoomba in the private school’s elite system.

And coach Michael Maguire is bullish about his Simpkin’s future.

“We’ve got another player in Jake Simpkin coming through as well that we always believed is going to take us into the future,” Maguire said.

“He’s robust and a strong carrier of the ball. He’s a thicker build for a hooker.

“What I saw of him coming through in Queensland, he was a real talent and I’m looking forward to giving him his opportunity.”

Like Grant before him, Simpkin has a reputation for being one of best young hookers in the country and is already built for NRL, weighing in at 91kg on a 181cm frame.

Maguire, who has coached some of the best hookers in the modern game including Issac Luke, Cameron McIness and Damien Cook, is confident, between Simpkin and Jacob Liddle, the Tigers have enough talent to cover for Grant once he departs the club in 10 days.

taller and heavier than Harry and he's
4 years younger. might end up being a mix of a Brandon Smith type and Harry himself. that said, we can't pin our hopes on him early and rush him, his development would've been slowed by no reserve grade this year.

He looks a very strong guy when I’ve seen him.

Liddle is currently strapped like an old trotter but I'm sure with the offseason he'll regain more fitness.

I wonder long-term about the strategy of two legitimate hookers vs a 60 minute hooker and a stand-in. Two hookers used to be all the rage.

I think we're pretty well placed for 9's post Harry with Jake Liddle and young Simpkin. Still, it will be interesting if Smith decides one more year-which I have a feeling he will! Will Harry then decide to pull the plug and either stay with us or look for a better deal with someone else? All up in the air til the great one makes his decision!

To be fair, I think Robbie should have been included in 'some of the best hookers in the modern game', definitely ahead of McInnes anyway.

Very confident in our hooking options for next season. Liddle has bounced back well from his ACL and Simpkin will be a revelation when he gets his chance.

Before we got grant this guy was touted as the next big thing. He’s sort of been left in the dark a bit but there would have been work done in the background and learning off grant for sure

Anyone find the ‘returns in the next 10 days’ comment interesting. Is he eligible to be picked for the Storm? And does Momo return at the same time?
