Krangi War Cemetry on the north west coast. You can take the train. A very moving experience and I'm sure the Australians buried and commemorated at the cemetery will appreciate you taking the time to remember them.

How much is this trip if u dont mind me asking…

Keen to do something similiar...

Demps
Trip is $2600
Flying Singapore airlines
Stay holiday inn express at Clark quay 4'night
Includes breakfast , transfers , insurance
Can do it cheaper but we chose to fly singapore airlines
If you have extra time I would slip over to thailand it's only 90 minutes and if you do thailand mid week its really cheap and worth the extra time

Singapore sling at raffetys, it's a cocktail for about 50 bucks. Rip off but good fun, through your nut shells on the floor and the hotel is pretty cool. You can take the gondola over to Sentosa Island but it's a bit of a tourist trap.

There is altitude bar where you can take your missus to a fancy dinner, but you can also just change into togs when you get up there and they will think your a guest and swim in the infinity pool over looking the 60 odd storey view.

If you go to the bars in orchid mall, have fun. On the top floor however you may find an extra handful if you venture down south!!!

I believe Singapore used to be rated one of the most boring places in the world. But they have built a casino, some malls etc now to stimulate tourism…You might want to check out Geylang but I'm not a big fan of the place.

I moved to Singapore 18 months ago.

It depends on what you want to see and do, And being in Clarke Quay you're a very short walk to Boat, Robinson and Collyer Quay. and mainly all the drinking places

Museums
* SAM
* Science and Art Museum
* Singapore Museum.
Bars
* Beer Market (Prices change based on demand),
* Chupitos (Shot bar)
* Fern & Kiwi
* Chijmes
* level 33
Restaurants
* Jaan
* 1 Altitude
* Bacchanalia
* Chijmes
Shopping
* Orchard
* Marina Bay Sands
Manly Men Places that you probably shouldn't go with your wife
* Orchard Towers in Geylang
Local Food
* Lau Passat (Most western hawker centre, but also the cleanest)
* Golden Horse Shoe (Hawker Centre near Lau Passat, not the cleanest place in the world but the food is delish and food is cheap
* BK Eating House (3x500ml beers for $22SSG)

Make sure you try the following foods, Nasi Lemak, Char Siew Bau, Cereal Prawns, Chilli Crab (not a huge fan myself)

Chijmes is a convent that was converted into a food and beverage place, really cool and quite close to clarke quay. So it's a cool place if you're looking for food or drink, or want to check out the 1800's architecture, or if you want to go to church. Safest be

Raffles Hotel is pretty and overrated, if you want a singapore sling I recommend either Chijmes, or if you can be arsed (go to Marina Bay Sands (the hotel and the casino) and look for the bar called 'Adrift'.

Sentosa is a tourist trap, but I do recommend the zoo and the night safari.

And the single most important thing to remember in Singapore.

Public drinking is only illegal from 10:30pm to 7:00am.
Feels strange to be treated like an adult sometimes.

That's an awsome way to spend your anniversary Andrew. Personally I'm not a fan of the place,( too boring for me lol) but in saying that, it's been 15 years since I've been there. I've heard that it's changed a fair bit since then. When i was there it was very expensive and i doubt that's changed. Still a good country to visit, once at least. Enjoy! :stuck_out_tongue:

Very expensive place but very clean and organised.

If you want a crazy experience go to Little India. Many years since I did it but for a certain time the place is flooded by the workers who live on construction sites. They are granted leave to go to town and they sure do lol…

Does this still happen Sataris?

1000000% agree with formerguest.

Im a bit late on this thread andrew but i found Singapore on a whole sooooooo boring. Its got to be up there with one of the most lamest overrated locations on earth. I went there in 2006 in my mid to late 20s during a 3 year backpacking trip through South East Asia. After spending time in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Burma, Vietnam, Philippines I found Singapore to be nothing better then a stop off for a cheap flight for an entry point into Malaysia. I spent 5 days in Singapore on a planned 14 day trip before cutting 9 days off the plan and heading into Malaysia and Borneo. Went to the major sights, Changi, Little India…..ahhh not much else etc and then went North into Malaysia, nothing else to do.

Now that ive settled down, if i headed over now in my 30's with my wife, it still wouldnt be different even with a different mindset on life then a partying 20 year old idiot as i was 10+ years ago. id still be bored shirtless there today after 2 days, so many hundreds upon thousand of better places to go in the world mate.

Agreed, but then again I personally don't get any sort of cultural growth/understanding going to places like the UK, U.S and parts of Europe. It to me just feels like it validates what you see on tv/movies but places like Laos, Cambodia and Borneo are amazing. I learn so much from going to those countries and generally people are so much nicer. At the same time gives you an appreciation also of how fortunate we are.

Went there for a holiday about 18 months ago and enjoyed it, great public transport, clean, plenty to do which Sataris has well covered. I was surprised one night to be walking across a pedestrian bridge which from memory led to Marina Bay shopping complex only to find an Aboriginal person sitting playing a didgeridoo, last thing I expected to see but good to see nonetheless.

Lol,

Funny you should mention, Little india is now an 'alcohol control zone'. Incident about a year ago means no more alcohol in Little India.

Of course now they just migrate to neighbouring areas… but Little India is still a crazy place.

I do enjoy SIngapore to be honest, the history and the government are fascinating. See the quote below.

“I am often accused of interfering in the private lives of citizens. Yes, if I did not, had I not done that, we wouldn’t be here today. And I say without the slightest remorse, that we wouldn’t be here, we would not have made economic progress, if we had not intervened on very personal matters – who your neighbour is, how you live, the noise you make, how you spit, or what language you use. We decide what is right. Never mind what the people think.” The Straits Times, 20 April 1987

Being Chinese background but born and raised in Oz, I found Singapore fascinating. If you want to see a melting pot of cultures who seemingly get along (better than it does here anyway) then Singapore is the place.
I love the food there. Be prepared to try anything. When I first went I just ate the restaurant and fast food food - like I love US burger chains like Carl's Jr that we don't get here. But then I heard of the hawker centres. All the locals mostly eat out at these places. Cheap, tasty and being Singapore - it's clean. Give it a go. My favourite would have to be the chicken rice stalls - go to Maxwell food centre. There's 2 places - Ah Tai and Tian Tian. They seem to get the queues whilst others are relatively quiet. Story goes that the ex chef at Tian Tian left and started Ah Tai. Sounds a bit like the politics at WTs doesn't it.
And try the tropical fruits

They're opening a Carl's Jr at a place called Bonnels Bay on the central coast / Lake Maq soon.

Arrived back and was very happy we traveled to Singapore
First the wife loved it so that worked out well for our Aniversary
Great culture , Amazing food , Excellent Hawker centres , Clean and Safe
The Taxi drivers are excellent , full of tips on where to go and where to eat , but what stood out the most was the fact they love there country they are very proud of it and how fast it is progressing , the speed they build towers is something other countries should look at , there rules are tuff but make for a very safe place to visit , I recommend it if you were thinking of going or stoping over , if you were there 5 to 10 years ago I don't think you would know the place it's changed so much I have been told , but if you want great food , and like tripping around you can do a week there easy
We travelled to Pulau Ubin , an Island just of the coast spent a few hours looking around it was good , you get a Bum Boat ( old timber boat ) ride there from Changi point Ferry terminal , good fun , we also did Merlion park , Chinatown , marina bay , clarke quay , Little India ( absolute mad house around there , you smell all the spices , it's colourfull and they sell heaps of Bling good for the girls, China Town wet market ( fresh seafood ) and it was , Newton circus hawker centre , Maxwell road hawker centre , Lau Pa Sat hawker centre my favourite ) China town hawker centre I think it was called people park or something , Orchard road , heaps of shopping centres and plazas , but the best part was We ate
Chilli Crab , Nasi Lemak , cereal prawns , carrot cake , Rojak not a fan ) Popiah , Pork Char Sui , Chicken rice at the famous Tian Tian at Maxwell centre , Beef Pho soup , Deep fried prawn roll , and of course Tiger Beer ,
Anyhow thanks to all who dropped some ideas in , and go there if you get a chance , specially you young people , the dance places and bars are open till 4.30 am

Glad to hear you had a good time Andrew reading your last post reminded me that I bought my latest pair of binoculars near little India, good bargain.
