Singing and Chanting in the NRL

How come we never hear any chanting or singing in the NRL? The atmosphere of the NRL is nothing compared to the ESL with all the singing and chanting. All the singing about the players they hate or the players they love so much they make a chant about them. There's none of that in the NRL and it would be nice to have it. And no, chanting "Tigers" while banging on the seats doesn't count. :laughing:
 
I don't follow the soccer

But years ago a good friend talked me into going to some newcastle jets games

I noticed as you stated the atmosphere at the games

The other thing I noticed is that the fans creating all the atmosphere weren't actually watching the game

With so little action and scoring opportunities in the game i came to the conclusion that the atmosphere they were creating was just to amuse themselves

When a goal was actually scored i believe very few of them actually saw it yet still rejoiced it

The NRL at the very least has lots of action to keep fans entertained
 
The noise is bad enough with the stupid songs they play over the loudspeakers during the game. Can hardly hear the person next to you speaking.

You wouldn't hear fans singing I don't think.
 
The NRL have sapped all excitiement and spontaniety out of the game…you cant cheer when a player goes over the tryline cause 9/10 times it goes to the VR...and the rest of the game is very very predictable...no punchups anymore to fire up the fans...its zzzz
 
1 for my bucket list is watching Rugby at Cardiff Arms Park, with 70,000 Welsh singing along.
 
I’m not big on the chanting thing, I prefer to focus on the game plus I prefer the players to be able to hear sledges. That’s one of the best things about Leichhardt…
 
The ESL ain't worth watching as there is about 30 seconds of action all game
So to be entertained the rest of the game they start a Sing along

They could do it during a Rorters Melbourne game

yeah a game to watch, refs to yell out and players to cheer
 
went to the scg the day steve Waugh scored a century and it was an ashes test.
the barmy army were there and for the first hour it was fun but by 4,00 it was only
fun for them.
singing and chanting add atmosphere but is it entertaining for everyone.i think no.

Rugby League has become that homogenised that singing will probably need to be brought in to keep the punters interested.

I enjoy the barmy army. Went to the Ashes series in 2010-11 and Johnson was having a shocker and the songs they were singing about him were hilarious. It wasn't so much fun for them on the next tour as we all remember though.

Exactly 100%.

In football, when the ball isn't at the posts, the teams methodically move it up and down the field. Good teams hold the ball and push it around to get the opposition out of defensive shape. But this is all fairly sedate, to the point where it can become quite boring, esp if the defensive side don't push forward.

In League, 99% of tackles are highly contested and that means you have to concentrate every tackle. The pressure is also on every tackle because you can be physically removed of possession/position at any time - dropped ball, 1-1 strip, forced-back tackle. This is normally not true in football - most possession is relatively safe until you get deep into the opposition's half, and when in danger most teams can pass back to the goal keeper.

Therefore I don't chant. I also tend not to drink at the footy either, because it dulls my concentration and takes the edge of the viewing. Also I don't want to have to race up for a slash mid-game.

You could send a chant chart out with the membership package , it would catch on quick ....especially with the kids
