Rugby league history

Recent history that still angers me:

2022 James Tamou, Wests Tigers front-rower and captain argues with referee Chris Butler."

"During Round 19 against the North Queensland Cowboys, James Tamou was at the center of a highly controversial match-deciding moment.
During Tamou's 300th game, with one second left on the clock and after the full-time siren with the Wests Tigers leading 26-25, despite the on-field referee having already blown his whistle to stop the game as time expired, referee Chris Butler allowed a captain’s challenge from the Cowboys despite no stoppage in play.

After a Bunker review was allowed, the Bunker (video official Ashley Klein) inexplicably ruled an escort penalty, and Cowboys kicker Valentine Holmes successfully kicked it that gave the Cowboys a 27-26 victory."

"Tamou attempted to use his own captain's challenge to argue that Cowboys player Valentine Holmes was offside on the kickoff. Butler rejected the request, stating, "You can't challenge the Bunker".

The Wests Tigers lodged an official complaint with the NRL, feeling they were "robbed" of a victory due to the incorrect application of the rules regarding captain's challenges and the game-ending whistle.

The NRL later defended the process, claiming the referee had not yet called full-time.

The NRL later conceded that the final escort penalty against the Tigers was incorrect, and the refereeing official in the bunker, Ashley Klein, was subsequently demoted."

Don’t remind me, a real shocker.
Funnily enough I saw some highlights of a Super League game recently and the same player pulled an almost similar stunt, and got a penalty. Chronic offender but hey, if it works keep doing it !
I almost puked !!!!

Wests Tigers former coach, Terry "Baa Baa" Lamb

Way back, I was told a story about the Wests club being desperate to re-sign Lamb to a contract. The club Secretary (voluntary) was a champion admin of his day, Ray Bernasconi, and he apparently came in the morning after negotiations, all happy that he'd signed Baa up - the trouble was it was only a 1 year extension and the top honchos had wanted longer.
Baa later left and went to the Bulldogs.
