Sione Fainu #284

train-and-trial contract like taylan look at how that worked out
I would not give him a train and trail I would ask him to go play for Camden or the Gorillas see how it goes and at the end of the year if everything is going well we can have a chat

Maybe his head is not in it anymore

I agree with this, I don't mind the idea of giving him a chance to turn his life around and I would support the club in doing this, in fact i would encourage it, however he should be playing a season at a feeder team and proving he is up for it. Judging from the photos it does look like he has stayed in shape.

I dont know of a.player who has had 5 or 6 years out of the game and came back succesfully....wouldnt be many if any.
He was also just starting his NRL development when arrested its not.like he was established and had a heap.of NRL experience...would.make it even harder to 'come back' to pro sport when in fact he had only just gotten a.foot in the door

Blokes carrying on here like he was the best hooker in the game or something.
Most probably never watched him play, Certainly not enough to have such a high opinion of him I'd bet.

remember him when he first came onto the scene at manly. all the fainus are guns it's in their DNA

Unsure of any conditions on his release or when that would be . If its within the next 12 months we would be mad not to engage him in some form

Only bloke I can think of is Danny Wicks. Not sure how long he was out for but I'd think about 5 years. From memory it was only a couple years locked up then a few more years on the couch with the belly to show he wasn't playing.
Sandor Earl and Bronson Xerri both out of the game for 4 years but both still training in their own ways and obviously not locked up.

I'd be fine if he was invited to a couple training runs to show he is worth a train and trial. I don't expect him to ever play NRL again but I also don't want to rule out the possibility.
If Manase Fainu is serious about a return to rugby league and the dream of playing alongside his 3 brothers, playing Sydney Shield or Ron Massey Cup for Ryde-Eastwood Hawks would be the starting point to see how he goes.
