Sione Fainu why not signed.

It will be hard to negotiate with Sione because his brothers will be better paid.

I wonder if the Tigers are having to get him to test his value in the market to manage expectations.

Or thinking he won’t wanna ditch brothers and will take a lower scale offer, or maybe just saving the announcement

Many will be surprised but IMO Sione has the highest ceiling of all our middles, Pole included. His footwork at the line is Fonua Blake like, he holds his feet in contact and gets offloads away. His attack is as promising as anyone. Defensively I was concerned early on. The first part of the season you couldn't have him and Pole on at the same time, but Sione's defence improved significantly as the season went on. It really impressed me.

We have to sign this guy, he could be anything. If we can get the same improvement on Pole's defence, we have the makings of a dynamic front row pairing.

Agree but we have had all season to sign him?

My suspicion is we will keep trying to free up spots over the next 3/4 months into January and that Sione will take one.

Barring that though, I don't think it's a huge cause for concern, we could always sign him to a T&T for 25 and top 30 for '26 and/or' 27. Any shortfall in salary could be made up over the rest of the contract (not that it would be much, I think his next contract would and should be quite modest).

That would be worst case, but, given that he's an NRL rookie, fringe first grader and has a fair incentive to stay, that could be an option we look at, given the lack of space in the squad for next year right now.
