This is one gutsy move

Why,,,,replacing the manager of an Under 20's team is not earth shattering ..if his name was Neville nobody would give a toss

He has a lot of friends, he knows a lot of important people….this sort of thing just doesnt happen to Sironens...until now.

Doesnt bother me in the slightest...but it uis a gutsy move

While I like the fact that Moss and Taylor have put their foot down and made some tough decisions already (albeit perhaps recommendations from Brian Smith) I'm not sure if this one might be a bit harsh.
Our U20s team has done quite well and while I'm not sure of Sironen's exact role surely he can't be doing so much wrong that he deserves dismissal.

Have to agree- this in my opinion has been a harsh decision that may do a lot more harm than good. Our under twenties has been the only shining light in recent years, and Sironen has a strong link with Holy Cross a great breeding ground for our club. I think that people have gone completely overboard with this notion of culling all people that have had links to the club. If they are not doing a good job fair enough, but if your cheering about them being shown the door simply because they are ex Balmain and or Wests players well that is just pathetic.

Agreed. For some reason this is the first person to be moved on that I just don't feel right about. Maybe because it's hard to believe he did too much wrong given their form over the last couple of years.

Would be interested to know the reason behind his sacking, rather than adding to uninformed speculation.

I really like sirro, and on the face of it he did a good job considering the success of the 20's. Just hope there is a good reason behind this.

How many people here actually had any idea Sirro was involved with the NYC team? A handful at most. He wasn't on the coaching staff, wasn't there on the bench or even really visible at all on match days.

Whatever role he had was in the back office and was invisible to most fans. What exactly does a manager for the u20s do? Book the hotels? Design training programs? Don't think so. Looking after player welfare perhaps?

Do we actually know he's been released? Has he been moved sideways into a slightly different role??

This wouldn't be a Taylor move in any case. He looks after the nrl team, and thats it. It would be a Moss move. The NYC team has been strong for many years, but who is that down to, if anyone? There's been 3-4 coaches in the past 6 or so years, so it must be at a higher level than that.

Sorry BB, but just about every NYC game I've been to he is on side line with the boys. Not sure what his role is but he is there.

I would think that Sirros position was made redundant when Moss was brought in as GM of football operations. As I see it part of his role is the development and transition of u20s and junior players through the ranks. I'm only guessing but I would have thought that was the role Sirro would have been doing as manager.

I personally do not know to much about Sirronen. From the outside it looks like he was doing a good job.
Perhaps they trying to change the culture of Balmain /Wests out of Wests Tigers.

Not exactly sure what his job entailed but his being there certainly hasn't hurt them from being successful.
One thing Sironen does know is football and its grass roots.
It seems some people are getting off on him being shown the door just because he was a Balmain legend or they don't like his son.
If so they should remember Paul also shone for both NSW and Australia and Curtis is still a work in progress.
He was also one of the most vocal voices in favour of the merger.
I'm sure having someone with a career like his around to help our next generation wouldn't have been doing any harm - young players would aspire to follow in his footsteps.
More than likely it's a shake up in general - I doubt you won't be seeing his face at Tigers games anymore.

I think diedpretty has hit the nail on the head here. This won't be a JT move.

It seems like everyone thinks despite all the reported issues with money, we still have an endless supply of it.

Siro would have been given the opportunity to stake his claim for the GM role I imagine. But the GM role would look after what siro did.

Our board members are business people and they aren't going to let Mayer get rid of good people go for no reason.

I'm hope he was told he is appreciated and I'm sure the club will look for a new role in the restructuring if he is good.

We could be looking at this from the wrong perspective,Sirro may have been moved because Moss will be in charge of all football operations including the NYC,could WT have another position for Sirro to fill, maybe, until a full statement is given then I believe that he could be given another role within the club.
Sacking is to harsh a word…..collateral damage maybe.........
Just my opinion Sirro has worked hard for WT over the years and has his heart in the right place....

To say Sirro has been "sacked" could be completely wrong. Nothing stopping Taylor and Moss believing there is a better guy for the job available.

"Replaced"??

let's be P.C….how about reached his used by date....

One sided mutual agreement

"Surplus to requirements"?

I love Sirro. He was my favourite player and I've met him and shot the breeze over footy and such and I can hand on my heart say the bloke is a total legend who has time for anyone.

That said, there is reasons behind the move that we aren't seeing. The club is in a huge period of transition and unfortunately good people will be collateral damage. Maybe Sirro wasn't meeting expectations in his position, maybe Taylor wants his own man in, maybe the position is redundant altogether and is being folded in as part of the Football GM role.

The club is making some tough decisions in order to bring the club success. I am OK with this and I am sure Sirro will continue to have involvement with the club in some manner. He doesn't strike me as the sort of man who would just walk away.

New Management (football ops anyway) new ideas, new structures. Happens everyday in the real world and once again to go out on a limb with negative connotations (sacked) without knowing the real reasons is ridiculous
Lots of good, effective people are moved on everyday due to changes in management - it isn't always related to their abilities or performance

how do we know that he was sacked and that he didnt WANT to leave?
