SMH Article 'We’ve lost faith in them’: Balmain consider shock exit from Wests Tigers merger

Garry Leo really put this head in it no doubt but it utterly disgraceful that HBG haven’t gone through with putting in independent board members or appointing Barry as Chair permanently. The board honestly treat our club like their play thing to keep themselves entertained with no concern for the club itself.

Disgraceful disgraceful behaviour.

I understand trying to put media pressure on HBG to implement the review’s recommendations but this has been executed extremely poorly and makes us look like the basket case we are. Sad sad sad.

Yep just making the point that it isnt Chammas who should be the target here. Its these mugs who have been running the club into the ground, with zero consequences.

I got you bro, I just re-read over the last few pages

We are, we've engaged a recruitment firm. It's not
easy to headhunt not 1 but 4 qualified individuals.
Complete beat up. Chammas knows what he's doing

say what you will about Chammas, the emails from Stapleton to the Balmain Directors regarding whether HBG will proceed with the review is a huge concern.

it’s getting to a point where PVL may have to intervene.
Guys JR has it spot on.

The major issue is not Balmain & Chammas doesn’t have a vendetta. He’s just been given info from Leo that highlighted Balmain’s concern with the new leadership at HBG, Romero & Burgess.

Remember the review recommendations were being implemented when Andrecchio was Chair at HBG. Since their AGM in March, when Julie Romero came in as chair & Burgess vice, it all changed.

I have copied the last bit of Chammas’ article tonight which explains the issue we are facing … I ask you all to PLEASE READ!

Sources with knowledge of the situation talking on the condition of anonymity told this masthead that a high-ranking Wests Tigers official has recently approached the NRL with concerns over the decisions being made by the HBG.

There is a concern that the HBG will not follow through on the key recommendation of last year’s Crawford-Barnier report, which is the selection of four independent directors.

The directors were meant to be appointed by May, but a change of leadership on the HBG board has stalled the process. Julie Romero replaced Tony Andreacchio as chairman of the HBG, with the leadership resulting in a change of the shareholder-appointed directors on the Wests Tigers board in recent months.

O’Farrell and new Wests Tigers chief executive Shane Richardson – who Leo previously said was the biggest positive to come out of the review – had selected a recruitment firm to undertake the process of appointing four independent directors.

The job was handed to Jonathan Harris from Elevate Talent, who recommended the reappointment of O’Farrell as chair as well as the appointment of three independent directors (including two women).

The HBG, which is under new leadership after the previous powerbrokers were rolled at elections earlier in the year, suspended the process and are now trying to execute a deed that will outline the criteria required to appoint the four vacant independent director positions.

The approach to the NRL from a high-ranking Wests Tigers representative also raised concerns over rumours of a growing push to revive the Magpies brand at the expense of the Tigers despite a heritage deed prohibiting the club from doing so until at least 2030.

This is the bit that concerns me Kaito, what is going to be in this criteria that Romero & Burgess want to appoint the independent directors?

How good, cant wait until Richo walks and the club dies

Quick run down if anyone is confused. In short, Gary Leo (Balmain Director) has had enough of the Wests Magpies side of the joint venture and wants to split the Balmain side believing it will be successful. Not short after Danny Stapleton (Balmain Board Representative) and Benny Elias (Former Balmain Player) came out and denied there was rift between the joint venture.

Now reports have emerged that the reasons for the Balmain side being so disgruntled is that Ashfield are seemingly hesitant to continue with the previous suggestions made from the major review, starting with Chairman Barry O’Farrell reappointment which the Holman Barnes Group have told “that Barry has to reapply for his position”. It seems that HBG are hesitant to completely follow through with the reviews suggestion and has caused a flurry of emails between the Balmain board members. Said emails have been leaked and short and simply put they are not happy at all. From outside looking in it seems that Balmain are annoyed by Magpies lack of commitment to the reviews suggestions with the Mapgies seemingly still looking after its own self interest after recently putting Dennis Burgess back on the Wests Tigers board.
Might be a blessing this came out if it makes them do the things required from the review.
I'm all for that as long as we stay WestsTigers as one

I don't think it's all doom & gloom, just my opinion.
I think this whole article (both) has been manufactured
over some time, and the timing yesterday I don't
think was by coincidence given the anniversary of
our last foundation games before we merged, and
the fact that we're playing next week to miss 3
spoons in a row. Chammas spoke to Leo while he
was at hospital recovering, thats how he got those
sound bytes for his article, pretty dispicable. And
the fear mongering being stirred up to bait fans for
clicks too. It's pretty clear what's happening imo.
Richo has got his head around this I'm sure, regardless.

I can wait 6 years until the Magpies take total control.does any1 have knowledge of what these emails state, its a headline on nrl universe -Incompetent, Machiavelian ,tinpots - The explosive emails at the heart of Tigers - Magpies feud.yet isn;t backed up by any facts just 12 randoms giving opinions, probably need 2 buy a paper this weekend?

so we aren’t believing Andrew Webster anymore that this is normal delay in respect of the new independent directors ?

I've just read this post before replying to you my bad yes
it gives some context but doesn't paint the whole picture

It's posted a page or two back in this thread

Having Richo gives me confidence that this will get sorted. Him accepting the CEO role was dependent on the club instilling good corporate governance at board level. He even said that in interviews at the time. And he will want to nip this issue in the bud quickly given the perception board instability can give off to potential recruits & sponsors.
