SMH Article 'We’ve lost faith in them’: Balmain consider shock exit from Wests Tigers merger

Because the West side of things are far to strong, and have control of pretty much everything,
A couple Of years ago I stated on the forum that Western suburb influencers were trying to take total control and kill the Tiger side of West Tigers and bring the Magpies Back, and I was called all kinds of names, and here it is West have to much control and someone is trying to do something about it.

GARY LEO.

They are not for WEST TIGERS
They are for Western
suburbs MAGPIES.
G'day Dennisspicer1. I know we have a JV and everything should be hunky dory and happy, but it apparently is not.
How do you feel about HBG owning 90% of WT and Wests Magpies owning 30% of that 90%, leaving 10% only owned by Balmain Tigers.
Does it feel to you like the tail is trying to wag the dog?

Thanks for posting … Im not sure Webster is talking from any particular knowledge though … this seems to be going on for 6-7 months now … shouldn’t take that long unless things are being deliberately delayed
Yeah I dunno...I listened to it too, and it just seemed like Webster was throwing a few darts at the board {dart board) didnt seem overly convincing.....anyway hope and pray its resolved soon

Feel free to move on then ..
This has been interesting for me. I'm genuinely surprised at how few people share my opinions on this. I think what I've realised is that I actually don't really have a connection to this club and its supporters any longer. I've lived in the UK for the past 15 years and still watch every Tigers game on live stream no matter what time of morning/ night it is. My 8 year old son wears a Wests Tigers jersey (with that god awful ambulance chasing logo on the front), I listen to any podcast going. Some of my fondest memories are of being on the Hill at Leichhardt (first game - 1983 vs the great Parramatta team of the day). So I do actually feel more than qualified to express opinions about the Club, it's current state and its future. But I realise now that the affinity I had with the club and its supporters is no longer there. So I'm going to step away...finally. I'm Balmain Tigers, not Wests Tigers. Always have been really. So, see you down the road as they say. There's plenty of Tigers games on Youtube these days. I do wish the 'club' good luck.

People who aren’t Wests Tigers shouldn’t be part of the club.

I’ve just spent an afternoon on the drink with Benny Elias, Ian Roberts and Matty Nable. Most importantly, Benny and I were hunkered down taking about WT news. He is very passionate. After Benny’s puff piece about being a believer in the WT club he was shocked about the Gary Leo article that Balmain was going to split off. He rang Richo in cahutes but Richo denies any knowledge of such an article or idea from the Balmain side. Benny thought he had been stitched up. I’ve given Benny Julie Romero’s phone number so he can call her to ensure she implements the rest of the recommendations from the external review. I was never a big fan of Benny’s. I thought he was in it for himself. But he was passionate about the WT and was out to help them. Said he would sort Julie out (a little bit in jest). @cochise, if you need an e grade “celebrity” on your pod I am your man. Love to WT.

The argument being put forward to me is truly befuddling. These Balmain directors are of the view that HBG wish to remove Barry O'Farrell and not take up the recommendation of the independent review to appoint 4 independent board members, all because they secretly want to bring back the Magpies??? If this really was the intent of HBG and Wests Ashfield, why on Earth did they not take the easy option of letting the Balmain Leagues and the Football club go into administration back in 2019. It would have saved them a lot of hassle they're now being confronted with and saved them the millions of dollars they have invested into paying off Balmain Leagues Club's debts and the commitment to fund the football club for the last five years.

People who put shit on Benny arent listening to what he is saying closely enough.
He has always struck me as a passionate, celebrity fan of this club who uses his platform to raise issues affecting it.

Depends on who is controlling the board.

that’s great … step away if it’s not doing it for you anymore …

For those that want to remain … leave them be

Bloody oath. Was really impressed with his passion. Obviously there is some history there and possibly wrong doing but to me he wanted the best for the tigers. Was surprised and happy with his enthusiasm. He waxed lyrical about Blocker Roach and Junior Pearce and blokes like me who used to smash the fence at Leichhardt oval for the “Tigers, Tigers” chant. He was not a fan of Robbie Farah though.

More rubbish now, someone is leaking emails from the Balmain side

Chammas has clearly got a vendetta on us as here he goes again..

On a serious note, this is becoming harassment IMO as that all they do every day is write articles about Tigers for click bait.
How can they get away with this as it hurst the brand and most of the time is not even true.
The Eels are on the bottom of the ladder yet silence from him..

Sorry I'm just pissed and over the bagging of our club.

Quick run down if anyone is confused. In short, Gary Leo (Balmain Director) has had enough of the Wests Magpies side of the joint venture and wants to split the Balmain side believing it will be successful. Not short after Danny Stapleton (Balmain Board Representative) and Benny Elias (Former Balmain Player) came out and denied there was rift between the joint venture.

Now reports have emerged that the reasons for the Balmain side being so disgruntled is that Ashfield are seemingly hesitant to continue with the previous suggestions made from the major review, starting with Chairman Barry O’Farrell reappointment which the Holman Barnes Group have told “that Barry has to reapply for his position”. It seems that HBG are hesitant to completely follow through with the reviews suggestion and has caused a flurry of emails between the Balmain board members. Said emails have been leaked and short and simply put they are not happy at all. From outside looking in it seems that Balmain are annoyed by Magpies lack of commitment to the reviews suggestions with the Mapgies seemingly still looking after its own self interest after recently putting Dennis Burgess back on the Wests Tigers board.

Interesting to see all the rivalry still going between these dinosaurs. The fan base want the merged entity, no one is asking for this.

I was a Balmain fan, I love that we represent the west now and the Balmain populace feels alien to me.

If Balmain comes back they should change the mascot to reflect the new suburb. How about the Balmain Teslas? Balmain corporate wankers? Balmain blood sucking lawyers?

And all that bustling corporate support that saw our club die 25 years ago. Yeah, let's rely on that and our non existent leagues club!

Way to go Balmain boys! And let's not even get started on the apparent incompetence on the Wests side! Someone help!
