So lets assume Sheens stays in 2013, What next??

So assuming Tim Sheens is given another shot in 2013, one would have to assume there are some re-assessed kpi's for Sheens to meet in order to move forward. I'm not suggest things along the lines of winning 4/6 games or anything, but rather, break it down a little further. Moving forwards Sheens desperately needs to do the following:

1\. Settle on a half-5/8 combination that includes a back up plan that in itself is also a true half-5/8 combination. The back up plan cannot involve Chris Lawrence or Robbie Farah or Liam Fulton. Doing so would be another sign of poor recruitment once more. The above mentioned players are to be used in their specialist positions. Positions where they have made their names. They should stay there.

2\. We need a complete review and overhaul of our defensive plans. It's now not good enough to simply say we need to do better. We need to see concrete evidence of this. If that means bringing in a renowned defensive nut, then do so. The club is in critical need of help here. In this situation, Sheens should take a back seat in terms of ideas and just take these ideas on board.

3\. The biggest thing that needs to change is the mentality of the sqaud. It knows it can score points and this is its own downfall. You see, as much as we know we can score points, it's become like a security blanket. I can't understand why with the amount of natural talent we have in attack - Why is our defense and our application in defense not a bigger priority? This is a telling situation. Sheens will have his own methods and created his own culture through those methods. These though have flaws in them which are obvious to see. Some how this needs to change. Which is why i think Sheens' job should be on the line regardless. Fresh ideas and a fresh mind in charge appear sorely needed right now. I'm not so sure Sheens can reinvent his approach?

Excellent post, every review you mentioned should be followed through. Except the KPI thing, one poor bugger mentioned that to Sheenius once before, it didn't end well for him.

With good reasons, its complete bulldust. This is not first year management studies this is a football team. _As far as Sheens is concerned_ there is only one "KPI" that should be appplied, and thats win enough football games to get us to the semi finals. You can split straws or argue the point on whether making the 8 or top 4 is a pass mark.

look at the teams who have had good success in 2012, and adopt a similar style, especially in defence.
if a player misses a tackle then back him up and get there for him.
get some consistent mongrel in the team. :smiling_imp:
need to have a hard headed cranky player in the backs.
ask any footy follower and they will tell you wests-tigers are too nice. :brick:

The problem is now it is too late to pick up a quality 7 for 2013

We are in the exact same position as 2012 without Ellis

We could enquire about Hodgkinson now the dogs re signed Keating, watch Godinet on sunday,he might be another option

I think we all know that Sheens will be here next year.

Humpty and the Fossils should make it clear to him, that if we do not make the eight as a minimum, the the final year of his contract will be terminated….

He has to be held accountable for the results.

well said OP. all three points are fantastic.

look atm, idc about results, i wanna see commitment, attitude and improvement in the areas we are weak in, i.e. defense and aggression. i think they have passion, but they just don't show it… sounds kinda stupid, but hopefully you know what i mean. when these basic criteria are met, im sure we'll see results.

i think consistency has been our major problem forever and the only thing i want them to show consistency is in all those areas^ above.

What next?
My guess is that this exact post will be just as valid in 12 months time as it is now.
nothing is going to change and we all know it.

Don't think he'll walk this year - he is on ENORMOUS money.
That's another reason they can't just punt him - unless there is some performance based clause in his contract (which I doubt)

Iagree with cktiger he would be on good money & we cant just punt him he has two years left on his contract & who is out there better to coach them then him?.

We will get the same rubbish again next year.

Sheens is well past his prime.

Maybe instead of supporting another team I can support Sydney Swans.

We'll be in the same mess next yr as well. Truth is even if all the planets aligned and Sheens was given his marching orders nothing will change next yr given our roster is pretty much complete and we still don't have a halfback or established fullback. Shades of Kearney at Parra in 2011\. At least we'd have players playing in their proper positions and no musical chairs with the halves. Well one would hope

If Tigers want a solution to there coaching position , sack Sheens at the end of the year and put Todd Payten there for a year and see how he goes . You wouldn't pay him much as Payten would snap at the oppotunity and would relieve such pressure on paying Sheens contract as well. If things don't work out ( Bellamy ) is of contract next year and can make a play for him.
I'm only thinking at a cheap alternative , for the board won't want to pay big $$$$$$$$ for a replcement coach , cause they would have to pay Sheens out.
Who knows maybe Payten could work some magic. Only my thoughts..

If there is no 'getout' in his contract they would need to pay him up for 2 years - and that would be way over $1 million.
No way they could afford another top notch coach after that.
Here's hoping they weren't stupid enough to not put some performance criteria in his contract.

You dont have to sack him, move him sideways into a nothing capacity, his ego could not cope and than give him a negotiated payout at a far lesser amount. The big end of town use this tactic and its quite effective.

Anyway I have a gut feeling he will be pushed or walk by the end of next week, the Indians are circling the tents and the drums are beating louder by the day

No way will he swallow his pride….come monday we'll be all but forgotten and they can continue on over summer.
What next?
The recruitments done, Anasta to 7, Edward Pettybourne replaces Ellis, Simmons comes in ...and lo and behold next year we go 12/12 or thereabouts

Sheens will need to be paid out the last 2 years of his contract , that's why i was thinking of Todd Payten as a cheaper alternative for now. But we know that will not happen.

If Sheens stays not much will change we will still have the same group of core players most of them not preforming and keep getting moved to other positions in my view thats not change that will be the same rubbish next year. Sheens MUST bite the bullet and tell some of these guys your not up to nrl standed and move them on out of the place or to state cup and most on this forum know who these guys are it is a pity Sheens does not. WE NEED CHANGE.
